AIRGUN REVIEW: Hatsan Hercules .357

The Hercules is a new PCP air rifle from Hatsan. The rifle comes in a variety of calibers, my gun is a .357, but it's also available in .30 and .45 as a large bore.
This video summarizes my initial few weeks experience, and talks a bit about grouping, velocity and power measurements.
With JSB Exacts, velocities to 840 fps and power of 120 fpe are achieved. The scope I used was the Leapers 3-9x40, with mildo

I was watching the video on deer hunting. The guy used a Benjamin Rouge 357. with hollow points. This guy was dropping dear at 80 to 100 yards! with a air rifle..these rounds were passing right thru the deer. Unbelievable...I am 49 and used to the daisys and pumpaction as a kid. Now, you got air rifles that are as powerful as firearms and don't make hardly any noise..That rifle could be used as a military sniper rifle.

How the hatsan Hercules group at 60 yards I have it but it doesn't group the best at 60 about a 3 inch group shooting off a bench tried slugs Diablo jab and hatsan vortex

This rifle reminds me of the Evanix Giant. The Hatsan has a slightly higher FPS. The Evanix was dropped by many if not all re-sellers. I bet the lower FPS was the reason.

They will go through a deer so if you hit vitals they are done.There are people killing deer with .22 and .25 hitting them in the head dropping them where they stand.So I think .357 is more than enough for deer.

+smartass1101 I like this gun for what it is; In my mind that's a medium game/predator gun. If somebody buys it for bigger game like deer,or wants to shoot cast bullets they might not be happy.... I do want to see what the rifle will do with a good tune though, lots of potential.

Why not head shots on deer? They drop deer every day with a 22 LR and head shots. Typical 22LR with 40 grain head is approximately 100 to maybe 140 foot pounds of energy. if you measure them out side by side, if you subscribe to the Taylor knockout theory, the .357 is more than adequate for deer with an 81 grain head, and with the nosler 145, for example you get almost 200 foot pounds and a Taylor of 5. grains 81.02 speed 820 Bullet Diameter 0.357 KE 120.9409435 Momentum 0.294977911 momentum_1 2.94977911 Taylor 3.3882564 grains 40 speed 1255 Bullet Diameter 0.22 KE 139.8623599 Momentum 0.222888223 momentum_1 2.228882229 Taylor 1.577714286 grains 145 speed 780 Bullet Diameter 0.357 KE 195.8441558 Momentum 0.502164502 momentum_1 5.021645022 Taylor 5.7681

I've a .357 sam yang that is quite accurate with open sights... with a good scope you'll be quite accurate with the .45 caliber of which two of friends have here in Hawaii and use them on pigs, some quite large. One is a predator control officer for the military and for wild dogs has good result with the Sam Yang .45. I'd not at all be be shy about hunting deer with the .45 whatsoever.

Looks like a wee bit of negative reaction so far. Wonder if Hatsan reps see this and decide to change anything, most likly not. To bad, they have a potential winner with slight mods. The bottles are not intended to be changed out like the Hatsan BT65. I hope the 45 cal is released with high FPS, even if shot count dropped.

I know I'm reacting to a 5 year old comment but I bought a Hercules .357 about a year ago and it doesn't engage the safety after each shot, its manual. So perhaps they changed it.

You came out with a good vid about a Hatsan before Rick Eutsler, cool. Was hoping it had more FPS. Wonder how the .45 cal will perform. I would have wanted much more power and lower shot count myself. Not a deer rifle you say, to bad. You say heavy weight, now much, 9 lbs or so? The 45 cal better have way more power or FPS if they want to see it fly off the shelf I think. Always like your vid's.

+Barter Brad the gun I have is an early release, and the spec states the .357 does 140 fpe. I was getting less than that, which may be due the gun I have. Having said this, for me the .35 is a predator gun, not a big game gun, my preference is a .40 or larger and at least 250 fpe for a deer rifle (for closer range). I am sure this gun could be tuned up, maybe that will happen at the factory or maybe aftermarket..... the gun is built to work at higher pressure and has plenty of air! Probably swapping springs would give you a boost, not sure how much room there is to work on the valve. I believe this gun has been optimized for diabolo pellets, which have some inherent limitations, in my experience these pellets destabilize if you go too high in velocity.

+americanairgunhunter I am waiting for Hatsan to put out the .45 cal, almost bought another 45 cal that is a single shot. If this gets close to the the same or better FPS and foot pounds, will buy Hatsan. People are shooting deer with 357 Benjamin Bulldog, not sure that I agree with that. I agree with you on 250 foot pounds or above for deer. Thanks for such a quick response. Any idea on price point for 45 cal?

i hate PCP air rifles, but the hercules is one i wouldn't mind owning one bit. everything hatsan makes is a masterpiece. I wish they would make this rifle but instead of PCP make it as an 88GRAM CO2. that would be insanely fun. only PCP's I want to own are the Mac35 with the clip, the benjamin armada, and the hatsan hercules. ironically, i'm a real stickler about power. I always want the most powerful air rifles, but when it comes to PCP, none of these are anywhere near the most power air rifles available. i'll never been able to afford the hercules, but if i won one, i wouldn't complain. LOL. I like that it can break 1000FPS with a 15GR .22 pellet. thats my baseline for .22 air rifles. if i can't do 1000FPS with a 14GR pellet i'm not interested. the hatsan hercules can do it with power to spare. it's a great rifle.

You can, but wayyyy more gun than you need. Something like a Flash or Flashpup in .22 or .25 would be a better choice.

You could take big game (deer and hogs) with this gun, but you'd have to be selective with your range and shot placement.

According to Texas parks and wildlife, a air rifle has to be at lease 30 cal. with a 150 grain bullet, and over 800 fps. I don't know any air rifle that can do that with that size bullet.

your knowledgement about this gun is not accurate.. it's not a hundred and ten or hundred and twenty foot pounds it is147 foot pounds or more you can turn up the power also.

With an 81 grain JSP exact the rifles was generating 840 fps, which is 126 fpe. You also need to average the shot string, which starts to fall off after the initial shots reducing the average power output further...... so I think my statement is quite accurate.

Mario Bross that’s not even in the realm of possibility for a .357 doing about 150 fpe. If you were talking about a .22 at 25 fpe it might be possible. That’s why I asked what your benchmark was. I own or have shot just about every big bore airgun ever made, and can’t think of anything that even comes close to what you are asking.
