Speaking from first-hand experience, Mike and the team at 3SB have done a great job creating a welcoming environment. Everyone is friendly and willing to offer a spot/lift off. Hitting a PR or a heavy set? Most people don’t stray in front of you or even stop what they’re doing to watch and offer encouragement. Whether you’re a seasoned lifter or even a beginner. It’s the same experience all around. Coming from 24hr fitness, it was a huge difference.

I always assumed the 45’s at the bottom were a safety precaution since it’s less distance for it to fall on someone’s feet or cause others injuries. On top of that, if for some miraculous reason the limbs of the weight tree were to snap off, less damage to flooring if the heaviest weights are closer to the base or floor.

A good rule that the gym I currently go to that I haven't seen at many others is taking whatever attachment you used off of the cable when you're done. This lets others know that the cable is 100% open and you can quickly put on the attachment you plan to use. This mainly works because my gym has a wide variety of cable attachments.

2:50 i think heavier dumbbells belong on the lower rack cause when it's lower, i can use my legs to lift it, and if it's higher where the 10s usually are, i would then have to awkwardly start using my torso. but heavier plates should be placed higher, that i 100% agree with

Just respect. I’ve seen my mother get disrespected a lot by bros because she’s a tiny old lady.IE taking weights from her rack,s invading her space, straight up being rude when they are waiting on equipment…She has been lifting for longer than I’m alive, and is literally one of strongest women in the country. Even if she was just a little old lady that shit wouldn’t be okay, every person in the gym deserves a basic level of respect. It is funny to see their reaction when she stands her ground though.

I just give a wave afar to the regulars, I find greeting i.e. going up and actually saying saying hello takes alot of time I mean if there was 10 people and if 30% decides to have short conversation about weather or game last night say 3min each then the other 7 is short just saying what's up at 30sec. That is over 12min of my warming up time.

I too, have always wondered why the hell we're bending over in awkward positions to pick up 45 pound plates instead of having them at chedt level. But i thought it was just the physical therapist in me that causes me to think this way. Other gum etiquette points are not wearing a bunch of damn cologne/perfume, not having such bad hygiene that people smell you from 6 feet away, and not lifting in front of the dumbbell rack.

People that take up space doing dumb exercises in a squat rack that doesn't require one. Also people that have a 10 minute conversations between sets and just sit on the machine. Oh yeah, also when there's like a group of 5+ guys that have gone to the gym together and 1 person is exercising while the rest wait for their set, just having so many people standing around doing nothing in a fairly small gym is annoying af.

Now I don't think every man, woman, they, ze, or otherwise, needs to grunt and be loud when lifting. However, I despise going to globe gyms like PF lame's, because I feel pressured to be silent the whole time.. it's weird. THEY HAVE A LUNK ALARM DUDE! wtf is that? ..and repack your weights I agree is #1, your mama taught you to clean up when you're done, come on. 45#s on the bottom because it’s more stable. Squat stands will wobble with the weight at the top. Do I want people trying to judge if top or bottom if bottom is safer all the time? Plus, drop a 45 from chest height and your foot is a goner. Tip a 45 over at floor height and it isn’t as big a deal.

The worst gym etiquette experience I had was when a personal trainer and two of his clients decided to take over a machine I was clearly using. They not only saw me switching from one machine to another one without rest as my superset. But I also left my lifting straps on the handle as I shifted to the other machine. I could see in the mirror that they were circling around the machine, but I wasn't aware they were planning on using it. The clients decided to take over the machine without even asking. I confront them, they said I had an "attitude" and starting cussing at me to drop it. I think more people need to understand that just because someone calls you out on your bullshit, that doesn't mean you can cuss them out and be unprofessional. I am not going back to that gym ever again.
