Thanks for the video. We are stuck with a lot of made in China tools and all of them need to be taken apart, trued up and lubricated. I didn't know how to get this thing apart until I watched your video. I am going to put all the parts on a metal buffer until they shine.

Hey Jason what if you drilled a hole in the back side and placed a greese zert so you can greese the gears without takeing it all apart? Just a thought thx Michael

Good video, however it appears you forgot to grease one very important part. It does not need much, but the tapered ram post that slides up and down in the expanding mandrel leaves will need a very light coat of grease applied to it. Probably it could use some cleaning too - using cotton balls and a long narrow rod or screwdriver. The open slots in the mandrel allow a certain amount of dust and shop grime to get in that assembly.

Yes! Do the wobbly coin next! They stay straight in them reduction dies but when I try to get that last rounding effect in the doming block sometimes it tucks only one side in causing it to be uneven. Then I have to re-stretch the dumb thing... I'm eager to see what you got!

Thanks for the tips! Yeah, I had a couple go wobbly and was able to work them out... eventually... I'm not quite sure why some go wobbly, the ones I had were cut perfectly, but I did notice the thickness of the coin was a bit thinner where the wobbles were on the edge, so it folded a bit more or less along the reed edge... Does that make sense? I look forward to the vid...

what type of grease did you used to lube your ring stretcher?

Any tips for someone who has a ring stretcher that doesn't expand evenly around the stretching mandrel. Granted mine is cheaper and has only 4 leaves but is there anything I can do to get the leaves to expand evenly? Thanks

can I reset the placing of the handle on a new rsr ? My handle only comes to a 45 degree angle when I pull it backwards toward me. I am unable to reduce because of this I believe not enough leverage. Can I re-position it until it lays the way yours does at the end ?

I love the videos but I must make a point. I think you could utilize a much lighter grease for such tight tolerances even a heavy oil might be more applicable for such a precision instrument.

I can't seem to get that final rounded edge on my rings. Do I need a 25 degree die?

I have that too -so am going to dismantle and service it. I think it deserves it as it has been invaluable over the years and has made me a fair amount of money! I intend making a cover for mine too.

This seems like it would be a great hobby and maybe even a small business. How large is the learning curve for someone starting with little or no knowledge other than a bunch of KZbin videos? Also, what is the bare minimum expense that one could get away with and still produce nice rings (presumably sacrificing time for the sake of money (no pun intended))?

I was on Rio website they have a predrilled domer plate that comes with the press I noticed you dont use the plate was wondering why you use individual domer

The reduction plate that goes with the rings stretcher reducer has limited sized diameter holes. Quarters are as big as you can go for folding. I also like to have the highest polished reduction dies as possible. This reduces mistakes and burnishes the edges.
