Congestion pricing: MTA gets earful at public hearing

Speakers from New York and New Jersey weighed in on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's proposed congestion pricing plan Thursday at the first of a series of public hearings. Many speakers expressed concerns over the toll that congestion pricing will take on their finances.

"Contraversal" is an understatement, its illegal, they just slap that thing there to collect toll just because they are broke? Did they provide any service to the cars that passed by it? No. What is MTA's president's salary? If they need to cut cost cut from the top. MTA is a private company NOT part of the city government.

Essex county resident here as well, and while that women is speaking facts when she’s talking about waking up extra early for a bus and still being late, these busses in Essex county are foul, never on time and will drive straight past u, I just still don’t see what these crazy high taxes are going to do, how is it going to improve the employees actually doing their job instead of skipping their route or driving past a few stops, the simple answer is it’s not unless it’s going straight into their pockets

then that is NJs problem to take up with their governor for underfunding and undeveloping their mass transit for well over 10 years since CP was propposed. NJ had since 2007 when CP was proposed to amp up their mass transit operations and they did nothing and now they wanna fight NYC on what they do with THEIR streets

It's never going to end. They're going to raise the rates, they're going to come up with new pricing plans and new fees and new tolls. And it's never going to end. It's not about projects, it's about pension plans and siphoning off money from people a little at a time to afford their inflated budgets and ultimately it goes into the pockets of rich people so that they can get richer. The MTA is a money pit one guy said in this video. They had liberal pet projects that went bad over the past 20 years and those investors want their money back. The money didn't get spent right because of liberal policies that don't work and so they want the average working person to pick up the tab. It's disgusting and revolting

I'm an electrician and if my city did this I would move immediately. We already are double taxed for the roads now you want to tripple tax us? I got a better idea how bout the government lives within its means like the rest of us. You want more money first show me you can be responsible with the money you have. If we had a good Europe like public transit system then I might not need a car but no US public transit sustem is anywhere near that good. The NYC public transit system is one of our countries better system buts its still overpriced, under maintained and its depressing to go into a disgusting grafitti covered tunnel so packed with people you can barely move. I like to hike and ski so I need public transit to National Parks and mountain trailheads. Some would say public transit outside of the city is a waste of taxpayer money but I disagree its whats needed for me to give up my car. The way to solve the too many cars problem is to have a good public transit system making driving so expensive that most people can't afford it is not the answer.
