Tessie, my high school chemistry teacher said exactly the same thing: that suds and getting things clean are not related to each other! She said that women had been "trained" that if they didn't see a lot of bubbles there was no cleaning taking place. But that was wrong! And she also mentioned about the additives that were put in -- starting in the 1950s -- to induce women to buy products that really "bubbled up"! She said that cleaning is chemistry -- not bubbles. So there you are: you are one smart cookie!

Well, those additives were cleaners. They're surfactants. They just happen to product bubbles too, unless there's a high oil/fat content in the wash or more dirt than the detergent can handle. Surfactants reduce the surface tension of the water (which is a polar molecule) so the surfactant can combine/emulsify with the dirt and grime, molecules and be washed away. So if you have absolutely no bubbles, then the detergent is overwhelmed - there's too many oil or dirt particles than detergent to cling to, so you need more soap, or to wash a second time. But, you certainly don't need a big pile of bubbles in order to get any washing action done!

My father always says that attitude is everything. It colors how we view ourselves, our lives, and others. I love your cheerful, positive, overcoming, never-say-die attitude. You truly live abundantly in circumstances that many others would complain about. Thanks for the daily lessons in frugality, but most of all for the consistent modeling of the power of positivity. You are an encouragement to many.

I do it almost the same way. Typically use fels naphtha soap from Walmart, I think it’s still about a $1 a bar and love, love using essential oils. Don’t forget to reuse a foaming hand soap dispenser! Just pour about a third of your homemade soap, add water, and voila you have foaming hand soap! You can even add a touch of liquid vitamin e for hand care. 😘

I LOVE Mrs. Meyer’s soaps and the lovely fragrances. Acorn Spice is my favorite. Here, I only pay $3.99 and sometimes even less. Stearic acid can be purchased and added to homemade soap to create sudsing. Everyone seems to be afraid of “chemicals”. There are beneficial “chemicals”. They are not all toxic. Sodium Chloride is the chemical name of salt. Citric acid is another familiar beneficial ingredient.
@karijaneify4 жыл бұрын
Did you mean Lauric or myristic acid? Those are the 2 fatty acids responsible for making bubbles in handmade soap. Stearic acid add hardness, but never read that is created it's own bubbles. And yes! People don't realize that everything is a chemical except energy, light, and heat. Proteins are chemicals, water, air, sugar, cotton, plastic...etc.

I thought what am I going to do? I got the broom and open the back door and sweep it all out. Lol. I never touch it again. I washed dishes by hand all my life but that month or so when I used that dishwasher. Lol have a great weekend.
