I had 2 gall bladder attacks and I was put on a FODMAP diet for 2 months before gall bladder removal surgery. This changed my food habits. I completely gave up milk, butter, ghee and wheat based diet. Your liver, gall blader, intestine all goes whack. Gluten does damage your gut and whole intestine and tea with milk as in Indian tea should also be avoided. Yogurt is the only milk product I will have. South Indians, please do not listen to your doctors when they tell diabetes patients you should switch to wheat instead of rice. My dad was foolish to listen to this. If you have grown up eating rice stick to Rice - we eat either white rice or matta rice (Kerala rice). Genetics plays a role. If any of you have any acidity problems check gluten/wheat-based items (bread, pasta, roti) and milk (esp in tea). I quit tea and coffee even occasionally, and now I am so happy free from milk products wheat products. Its very important to be aware of your own gluten and lactose tolerance, especially once you reach 40. Body can mask these intolerances when you are 20. I use fortified oats milk for any dishes or festivals (paal pazaham naivaidyam also oat milk only). Once you stop tea or coffee for two months , you will never feel like going back to it. Brain can very quickly re-wire and what you cherished once can become yuck. My gut has been rewired in the last one year and I cannot be more thankful. Taking proton pump inhibitors is only short term solution to acidity or chest pain or back pain, the real issue needs a hard look on daily diet. I plan my family's diet more cautiously now...even if my husband buys any junk item - mixture, boondi, chocolate with sugar, ketchup or items with corn starch, ice cream with sugar, I will throw it in the dustbin without telling anything no fight nothing. Anyting with added sugars or added colors/ unknown chemicals goes to the dustbin. My daughter simply doesn't get hold of any junk. I go on kitchen investigations just to eliminate anything that can adversely affect my family's health. 90% of the time what I throw my husband never knows and the 10% times he does know, I will say I am sorry..I didn't know. zero explanations or fights. Slowly his buying habits also changed he no more buys sweets or chatpatta. He never ate them much himself he thought its good to shower my daughter with those ocassional junk. Teach your children also whats good and bad food...and teach them whats a balanced meal with micro and macronutrients and most importantly teach them to say No. : even if the food comes from a trusted parent, relative or neighbor or friend. As parents we need to model good eating behaviors at home. I do get my daughter 80% dark chocolate and probiotic juices with no added sugars that are still moderately sweet and nice for the taste buds.

I'm a pediatrician and 10-year old son was in the ICU for asthma as a young child. One of the major reasons why my son was able to come out of it and kept growing healthier was by cutting out animal dairy completely from our diets. The result were shocking. Now, he hardly needs his inhaler and actively swims and rock-climbs without any problem. Things may not be the same for everyone but I strongly agree with Dr. Pal we should all take a long look at our diets and find proper alternatives for better health overall!

Excellent doctor. I follow NDS life style of b v Chauhan. Here I do water enema twice a day morning and night. At 10 am I take green plus veg juice and at 13:00 green juice, fruit juice and at 17:00 same as lunch plus very little millet based food ( just 10 percent). From 5.30 pm to next morning 10 am fasting without water. I reversed my diabetes in 8 days without medicine, shrunk my wart and growth on my back, shrunk my waist to 32 inch from 38 to 32 inches in four months. I also do yoga and pranayama

@drpal I have a long-running habit of eating late in the night (10-11 pm). I am trying to make it better in increments and hope to reach 7 pm in another 3-4 months. However, all these years, as I have a late dinner, I have been skipping breakfast and have my first meal (brunch) around 1 pm (all I have until then is 1 liter of water that I drink around 8-9 am). Would you let me know if this still comes under "gut rest" i.e. would skipping breakfast and having direct lunch be considered a good practice at all? Hello Dr, I just started following your videos few months ago. Following time restricted feeding since year 2020 ( Covid). My day starts with fruits and nuts by 11.00 am then lunch at 3pm and ends by 4pm until next day. But I can't resist eating sweets ,cookies and cakes. I'm struggling a lot to stop this. I'm a PCOD too .

Hi Dr. Pal, I have been following your advice. When I am in the US (LA, California) for a year or so, I do 1-2 hours of taekwondo each day, wake up at 5am, half hr yoga in the morning, do 10,000+ steps a day, drink around 3 liters of water, eat lunch dinner breakfast, not overweight. I have freq painless rectal bleeding (has removal of sentinel tag last year, since then no pain), whereas when I am in India, all the problems go away, no bleeding no discomfort during passing bowels. This problem goes away with sitz bath, local ointments. Why does this happen? Does weather have anything to do with this?. How can I get rid of this problem for good?
