Hello Dr Fung: thank you so much for your videos! One thing I'd like to suggest for you to lobby on: if the number of calories are not as important as the hormones they trigger, maybe we should have a Glycemic (or Insulin) Impact number as part of every product's Nutrition Facts table (which right now shows only counts of calories, fats, carbs, and proteins).

Almost reached the goal BMI of 25. Then I'll probably go to 16/8. I never go back to the high carb/sugar foods. Thanks to Fung I now really understand what was going on. Never knew that. Everybody said I just needed more exercise and eat more regularly. Now I'm fasting everybody thinks I'm mad and that it is dangerous to eat once a day. Strange, because when I ordered fast food in the past, nobody said anything. But that was the real danger! I now feel good and energetic the whole day.

Yep. People think, OMG, I'll be too Hungry ALL the time! BUT the Awesome truth is that NOPE, you will hardly notice any true hunger pangs at all! I do intermittent fasting which is at least 20 hours per day. I am hardly ever truly hunger until my eating window. And for me, eating quality protein along with healthy fats and veggies works the Best! The protein and fats, along with the fiber, keeps a rock- steady blood glucose. No feeling of crashing or dragging thru the day feeling fatigued! (I would happily do extended fasting but I have medication that I need to take daily that requires a bit of food to be absorbed properly.) Anyways, I've done OMAD and Intermittent Fasting for over 2 years now and it's the Easiest thing in the world! And when you eat whole nutritious foods your body starts Healing and becoming Strong and Healthy!!😉😎

Many thanks Dr Fung. Within 37 days lost 10KG! Feeling more energetic and not tired all the time. Here's my regime. MON to SAT 20 hour Intermittent Fasting (IF). Start fast after lunch 1300 hrs and have breakfast the next day 0900 hrs. Been eating my regular food. Breakfast is fruit juice (apple, beetroot, orange, celery) with a cup of tea with full cream milk powder. Lunch is typical Asian i.e. stir fried vegetables, rice, fish/ meat. After SAT lunch i.e. 1300 hrs continue fasting for the whole of SUN and break fast on MON 0900 hrs. This is a 44 hour fast. Will carry and monitor. Now at optimal BMI and perhaps shorten the fasting hours to say 18 or 16 hours to arrest the weight loss. Normal routine includes exercise 20,000 steps a day. Note that IF is the only change to my routine, so can definitively say this is the one that made a huge difference :-)

The insulin model of adiposity was definitely applicable to me because I lost a lot more weight since I started keto and intermittent fasting than I did when I was counting calories on a standard diet, and the weight has stayed off which I never did before. I’m not saying that this will be true for everyone because it probably depends on a lot of particular details, but it was certainly true for me, and thank goodness that people like Dr. Fung are out there because this information allows people to salvage their quality of life while the CICO crowd is out there arguing to show that they know what’s absolutely right for everyone.

I would think that in most folk that are eating highly refined carbs weight loss would occur. I think the biggest thing is that fats/protein satisfy your hunger better and as a result you are not as hungry and you eat less thus less calories are reduced. Restricting carbs has always worked for me in losing weight. Great reply.
@Patriot1790
@Patriot1790 3 жыл бұрын
@@DLTJR1959 Carbohydrates really are not the problem overall. Asians for example have white rice with every meal. However, they consume a lot of protein and fats. The problem is people consume too many carbs on their own. Bagels, sweets, soda, etc. I would never just eat a bowl of pasta for example without some source of protein. I would never wat rice on its own either.

If we didn’t eat, my mom would get concerned so of course I never fasted until I moved out of my house. I did my first 24 hour fast this week and I’ve never felt more energized and good about myself, knowing I’m doing something good for my body. I only fast one day a week for now, and eat healthy on my eating days (no eating out, mainly vegetarian with lots of grains, greens and protein but occasional chicken and fish now and then). I literally feel it immediately when I eat refined carbohydrates, something like a bagel. I get a headache, I feel what feels like a blood sugar or insulin spike, and I feel like I have to take a nap. On the other hand I had an egg wrap with scrambled eggs, bacon, avocado, and a little bit of sour cream for my first meal at 4:30 pm yesterday. I had every intention of eating my second meal two hours later but I simply wasn’t hungry so that’s all that I ate yesterday. It’s over 18 hours later and I’m still not hungry, and that’s after walking eight miles this morning.

Wow, another simple to understand breakdown of processing of foods. This is what is needed to truly “see” what is happening in our bodies after eating different foods. I have a good bit of knowledge of this subject but you took it down to a level that is so much more helpful to us. Calories in relationship to hormones in relationship to what really is happening to what we are eating. Thank you, again. You have helped us to much!!

I love these videos by Dr Fung because they succinctly encapsulate the various aspects of diet and it's effect on the body. The one on carbs is good in that it explains simply the different types of carbs and whether they contribute to weight gain. Not all calories/carbs have the same effects so not all carbs are "bad" or should I say have negative consequences on the body. These videos and your books have been useful in pointing me in the right direction in my attempts to change what I eat and to also incorporate intermittent fasting as a tool to lose and maintain my weight. Please keep making these videos as we need many advocates on the proper approach to food in order to mitigate the effects of a "modern food environment"

You are utterly incredible! I am so thankful to you for your videos and just sharing this knowledge with us. I think that if more people started to view weight loss as more complex than the widely used and simplified concept of “calories in vs calories out” then more people would have success. It’s truly life changing just to learn about weight and fat loss in terms of how our bodies actually process those foods, calories, etc and that it has more to do with insulin than anything else we’re doing!! Thank you for enlightening me! I just started my fitness/weight loss journey with the goal being to do a body recomposition (loose fat and tone up muscle). I did a comprehensive body scan and found out that I have very high amounts of lean body mass and lean muscle mass, and that my overall fat percentage was optimal. But conversely, the basic BMI chart tells me I’m almost obese. So I’ve gone on this whole time wondering why I don’t look as heavy as others with my same height and weight…and thinking I needed to lose a lot more fat than I even have on my body!! Do you face any recommendations for women with high levels of lean/muscle mass and relatively high level of fat mass who wants to tone up and lose fat? I wondering if the calorie deficit I’ve been told to use is way too restricting and therefore causing my body to just burn less calories.

That’s what I always thought having pcos because I would try to lose weight with just being in calorie deficits and it would never work. But when I would fast and low carb then I would lose weight. All the weight loss KZbinrs always say it’s simply calorie in calories out.

My experience is the same that it’s not just calories in, calories out. Thank goodness for people like Dr. Fung because he’s sharing information that allows people to salvage their quality of life while the CICO crowd is arguing about how they’re absolutely right for the entirety of the universe and know everything. It’s really about their ego and their arrogance, not actually helping people.

Jason, You're on the right track. As overweight people, when we eat things like cheeseburgers and pizza, the hormones responsible for weight gain spike above normal. A naturally thin persons hormones don't. When we eat things like fruits and vegetables, or even just meat, those hormones don't spike above normal. However when we combine meat and plants, or eat a facsimile of that combination in the form of processed foods, those hormones do spike above normal and they suppress the production of the satiety hormones. This clears the way for the person to overeat. By the way, this is how all addictions work, which is what causes obesity in the first place. It has little to do with hunger or a lack of energy. It's almost all about satisfying the person's addiction to food. Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
@LTPottenger
@LTPottenger 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's very physical addiction, not psychological at all. And you can get over it by fasting or slowly reducing the bad foods.
