I recently sold my 2.0 xf diesel. I had zero problems with the jaguar 2.0 engine. You must change oil on them every 10k though. Ignore the 21k interval 👍 . Took family to south of Italy in mine and it ran like a dream on the auto stradas and the mountain passes 🤷. The 2.0 engines are a little rough sounding when cold, and if you've removed the sound damping then that may account for any excess noise. That did sound a bit louder than mine did tbh.

Can I ask you, if you could possibly know this, what are the differences between the 204 ps and 240 ps ingenium diesel engines? I do know the ingenium engines were made to be modular and to have many interchangeable parts. Does this mean that if I get the new head gasket, twin turbo, injectors etc. I could, hypothetically speaking, upgrade my 204 ps (well 180 ps but it's MHEV so...) ingenium to 240 ps ingenium? Or is the 240 ps engine completely new engine block with completely different setup that cannot be cramped up in the XE model.

@@Escygt my guess as well. I will ask the chief mechanic at the local JLR center what he knows about this. Assuming the engine block is the same and there are no big differences in sensors and locations for other required parts it might be possible to do what I want. Reconstruct 240 ps diesel engine, couple it with the MHEV, add stronger cooler, add methanol water injection (to cool down cylinders prior the ignition), replace the catalyst with the bigger one and last but not least, add heat insulation on the entire exhaust system to help the DPF and catalyst so that I can actually meet the exhaust limits. This could easily squeeze out 300-350 ps (before the MHEV is included) out of the engine. I guess this could easily squeeze out everything out of my wallet as well... For now, this is not something I will be doing any time soon. But thank you for your response. That's really unfortunate. Sounds a bit similar to the guy I bought this off, he rebuilt it only for a big end to start knocking. In that case I think it was down to silicone blocking an oil way.
