I don't think that its a stretch to think in the end the eternals was not sure what was going to happen, given that they were attempting to do something that had never been attempted in the history of the universe.

When we I left this movie, I told my wife "they made this movie for me". I can't understand a 49% score, it's such a smart movie with so many well executed characters. It is a little slow in parts but the moral conundrum at the end is so wonderful to see in a Marvel movie. I loved this and hope the big opening gets us a sequel, they better not pull back.

I think the moral question is interesting, but maybe not enough to carry 3 hours. Plus I found it hard to connect to the characters, I'm guessing that caused the biggest divide amongst the lovers and haters based on this review. I wish there had been like 5 less eternals so we could really understand them and their POV. So yeah I hope they do more 'heady' stuff too but this didn't resonate for a lot of us

Loved this movie! The crowd at my screening was super into it, there was applause in a few scenes (as well as at the end of the movie), and I could tell everyone was incredibly engaged with the story. Definitely can't wait to rewatch this one again! Also, loving The Big Thing and SEN as a whole. Fell off after the Schmoes/Collider days, but finally found my way back and here for the long haul. Keep up the awesome work!!

Very happy to see this. I loved it, too and can't wait to see it again to unravel it a bit more. I had low expectations after hearing the early reviews, and was blown away. After hearing how "different" Shang-Chi was, I felt it was same ol same ol. This felt bigger and different. Thanks for the positivity today.

This has been one of my most anticipated movies of 2021 and I loved it. I did leave the theater with many questions, so I immediately watched Mr. Sunday Movies and played this review to get more context. I loved this movie, I love the dialogue, I love how it wasn’t like every other MCU film with a big marvel style fight scene. I DONT understand why it getting such bad reviews. As for the post credit scenes, the Harry Styles one it’s fine or whatever I don’t really care tbh. But the second one got me more hyped especially once I knew what it was and who spoke off screen. Thank you guys for the review and the watch alongs. They really help me especially at work from getting out of my own head. I look forward to many more videos and peace out mother F’s

Ikaris and Ajak is one of my favorites. I dont think a lot of people realize how much baggage they carry. Ajak especially, she knows what she's doing the whole time and she still keep a straight face about it when talking to other eternals. The guilt she's carrying, i cant even imagine whats that like.

Ajak was the only one who knows the how celestials work and was instructed by her own GOD to succeed in their mission no matter what. No sane person would want to find out that their basically participating in a suicide mission. So why would she tell everyone the truth? Everyone would be against it, even she herself knows that killing the planet is the wrong thing to do. She told Ikaris bc he's her right hand, look how that turned out. Also i can already tell that you haven't seen the movie bc if u did you would know that Ikaris was never chosen as leader. Not once.

@@ed299 You can look at it as a suicide mission or the birth of a universe creating God. Either way I would want to know the truth. There is a specific scene where everyone is asking Ikaris what they should do. Instead of Ikaris taking the leadership role he says "Ajak chose Sersi so we have to listen to her" idk why he would say that if he wanted to complete his mission. Why does Ajak chose Ikaris as her "right hand"? Why does she tell her "right hand" but not the team? If Thanos changed her mind why not tell the group. Why wait till the week of to tell Ikaris I'm going to tell everyone. It's like phones don't exist. Why would Ikaris kill her instead of kidnap. Killing her made him morally corrupt and ruined his plan. I don't care how loud he cried. He still took a life he didn't need to take and also claimed to love. If your going to go full Peacemaker at least stick to your guns.

This is my favorite phase 4 movie bar none. Like Coy it's cracked my Top 10 MCU (including the shows). The one thing about the final battle that really got me was the effects on the Celestial rising out of the water. I haven't been truly awed by effects in a Marvel film since Marvel switched to digital film cameras. This movie has been the first in a long while that was shot on film.

I’m with Kristien and Coy love this movie. The characters are so well written. It did what Rogue one did for me, made me care about the characters that I only just met. I also found myself enjoying the slower moments in the film, the action was good but the conversation and interactions between the characters are what I really love

@@TheKristianHarloff There were only 2 jokes that didn't work for me and it was the placement of them. 1) When they go tell Gilgamesh about Ajax death and the pie falls down and 2) After Thena gives Sersi the big speech and Phastos walks in and says "I got to say something" and Thena responds "I already gave that speech". Just seemed like 2 big moments that didn't need the break in tension (which I know the MCU uses jokes to break tension)

I loved this movie and it’s so refreshing to see an online review get the movie the way I did. My friend and I had the same reaction as you two . Chloe made this movie for us. I actually liked the third act more than you did. I think it was clear they were scrambling because plan A didn’t work with Druig. Deeply moving. I really loved Druig and Makkari but I’m surprised at how many people didn’t connect with Sersi and Ikaris as a couple or as individual characters. Their arcs are fantastic and both are complicated adult characters and the acting was fantastic. In any case I’m so excited for a second Eternals movie in whatever form it takes

Honestly the reactions towards Eternals reminded me of when Man of Steel came out funny enough. Critics didn’t really love it and it was very divisive but the movie ended up having a strong fan base who think the movie is better than what a lot of the negative reviews are giving it credit for. It’s definitely not Last Jedi divisive, thank god! As much as I get the divisive reviews, I don’t think it deserves the negative feedback it’s been getting from critics, it’s not that bad. Hell it’s nowhere near being in the worst of the MCU, I’ll take this movie over the first 2 Thor movies, Iron Man 2, Age of Ultron, Ant Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, to certain extent Black Widow (I liked the movie fine but it definitely have some lows) and Incredible Hulk, which is my least favorite in the MCU. Even this year in terms of comic book movies, I’ll easily take this over Venom 2 any day and the fact that got better reviews baffles me.

I really enjoyed the movie. The movie asks big questions and gives the audience a viewpoint of what does it mean to have the power to change the world. Critics tend to favor small worlds with small ideas which I think is why the scores are so low. And not to be that guy but Starfox/Eros is not a bad guy. He is more like a less humble Thor. There was a story that retconned his powers into being creepy, but for the most part he only used his power in a "These are not the droids you are looking for." way.

On Sersi’s arc they gave her an arc of uncertainty to finally realizing her purpose by the end of the film. That’s the reason why people didn’t like her character that much but you have to realize Gemma going through an arc.

I loved this movie. Going into the film I knew that we were going to get a very different Marvel movie. Nomadland was a tease of what we were going to get but also the trailers didn't show that action similar too Endgame. The Deviants were my least favorite but its honestly a minor gripe, overall the movie is great. The characters were great, all their powers were done incredible, the Antonio was awesome and it got me hype for the future

I really enjoyed this movie and how it made phase 1-3 feel so small & insignificant and that the snap has such a profound effect that it affected something on the scale of Eternals and Celestials. Loved the Pink Floyd opening credits and the score was great! I need to rewatch before I can rank it officially but it has a chance to crack the top 10. Good review episode, guys!

my thoughts: I really really liked it. To know what my taste in movies are: I watched Dune 5 times in theaters and Mad Max Fury Road 11 times in theaters. And my favorite movies and trilogy of all time are the Before Sunset trilogy. I am a huge Marvel fan and I thought this movie was great. Any problems I heard from critics, I thought was fine and didn't have a problem with it at all. Pacing? It was fine for me. I was invested in the characters and the story and it was overall an entertaining movie. Watched it with a friend of mine and he actually loved it more than Shang Chi. Not sure where the divisiveness from the critics is coming from. I knew about the mixed reviews from 'critics' going into this. I was waiting for the movie to lose me, but it never did? Actually just kept enjoying it the whole time

Went to theaters Friday and Saturday to see Eternals. Having watched Nomadland earlier in the week, I can definitely see the Zhao style in the movie. I enjoyed parts of Eternals and agree with the Dune comparisons. I want to see more with these characters just like I want to find out what happens next with Dune! I love this movie. I love the dynamic of the family and the relationships between them. I love the immeasurable scale this movie just put us in, how it makes everything that has ever happened in the MCU seem so insignificant. And to be honest, it makes almost every other villain on its way seem like nothing (and the avengers crew doesn’t even realize it) .. got a Kang problem? Ah, that’s nothing, Arishem is coming.. Got a Gorr problem? Ah, that’s cute Arishem is coming. The sinister 6 tearing up New York and almost killing Peter? Oh wait, there’s 2 more Peters swinging to his rescue? Yeah, doesn’t matter, Arishem is coming. That’s just 1 Celestial, 1 Celestial that creates entire Galaxies. And there’s more Celestials on their way. I need to see this movie a few more times. I can’t get enough!

I am 100% on the same page with you guys. It’s in my top half or high middle range of MCU films and I don’t have an MCU movie I hate. I covered some of this in my copy pasta, but considering how they had to cover the history of humankind, how the Celestials fit in, what is the purpose of the Eternals, give us enough to be able to have a grasp on each Eternal’s motivations/character, and still resolve the central dilemma while throwing in a major twist? And, for me, they pulled it off and considering all of the above, that is a feat.

I absolutely loved it. There were a few moments where I thought people would feel like it dragged, and there were maybe two moments where I thought it dragged for a couple minutes. But all in all I'm very pleased with what we got. I loved all the characters and it was shot beautifully. There were moments where I got glassy from almost tearing up and I laughed a lot. Especially when Druig bricked Sprite at the end.

Got me so hyped for the future and it was just so different in the best way. I am baffled by the critic rating. Currently at number 9 in the mcu for me but I’ll see after a second watch. My wife and I loved the movie! I also wish we had another 30 min to just spend time with the characters. I think each character had their time and you really felt a diverse cast of characters and nothing felt forced about it. Perfect balance of action and digging into character development. My wife came out of the movie asking if they are going to make another and she also got more excited by the post credit scene then me because of Harry Styles.

I love this movie. The story is beautiful, and it has been a while since a movie hits me this deep. I really wish to see more of the characters. I hope that marvel is going to make a series about their time together before they separated the team as I feel like there is still so many interesting backstories to be shown.

I need to watch it again, felt long and didn't dig on all the flashback scenes in the theater, felt like it was really stalling the story progression. But in retelling my thoughts to coworkers, I realized there was a number of things that really worked for me, (especially the Celestials) So I think I will enjoy it a lot more the second time at home in a more relaxed atmosphere, knowing more about the overall story I'm watching

Was looking forward to this episode of The Big Thing. I really liked this movie there are something’s that did not work wished we would have gotten more with some of the characters. This felt completely different to any of the other MCU movies. I really liked all the stuff they setup for the future like the Celestials and the Black night. Looking forward to see it again and see what more there is to this movie.

Wasn’t into it at first (first act pacing/the flashbacks seemed intrusive) but after Arishem told Sersei the truth about their directive, from then on out I was hooked. Loved the mythology, performances, and visuals! Definitely a movie I will like a little more with each viewing

I saw Nomadland, which was brilliant, so I knew what we were getting in Zhao. Didn’t think too much of the first Eternals trailer. The second one was great and got me excited. I’ve seen the movie twice now and enjoyed both viewings. So did my lady who is not as invested in these things. We both hated Dune and had a pleasant time with Eternals. They are two vastly different films in terms of narrative and scope. I loved the continued world building and the added cosmology to the Marvel Universe. Ikaris was my favorite character, Thena and Gil were my favorite relationship, Sprite was the most interesting and Dane the most promising. But all the other characters were great too. Mikkari is The Flash DC deserves lol. I’m excited for what’s next. Marvel has to do human centric story now. Because Arishem appearing before earth is not something small. And boy who isn’t excited to know that Blade is coming?????

Hi, I'm late to commenting on this video because I just saw the movie last night but saw your pleas for commentary from viewers so here are mine-- I really enjoyed this movie. I think it got a lot right. That being said, I also think it got a hefty amount of things wrong. I LOVED the MCU's real foray into sci-fi as a genre, because that's what it felt like to me. More than once I was very much reminded of Mass Effect, which is probably my favorite space opera of all-time. The cinematography was gorgeous, and some of the characters were REALLY compelling (my favorites included Druig, Makkari, Gilgamesh, Phastos, and Thena). It set up a LOT of potentially really great things (Black Knight, Blade, Eros, Celestials, etc.) to come in phase 4. The writing for me had a lot of weak spots, but I also don't know how you take a story of this magnitude in which you have SO many characters, worldbuilding facets, etc. to introduce and fit it into a 2.5hr movie. So in that respect, I agree a TV series probably would have lent itself better. For instance, I felt Kingo was really weak as a character and his motivations were the weakest of all of the Eternals. I thought Sprite's love for Ikaris was completely unnecessary and hamfisted into the plot. And I agree with you all, the end of her arc at the end was pretty rushed... felt like just a quick way to cast an adult actress without the audience questioning it (it's moments like these in cinema or books where I feel I can "see the author's hand" as it were, and that always takes me out of the story). Sersi and Ikaris had no chemistry (unsure if writing or actors) - where on the flip side Druig and Makkari had ALL the chemistry and now I ship them so hard! And while I enjoyed the deviants and their evolution running parallel to that of humanity (and, as Druig says, they're us!), I thought they kind of became gratuitous to the plot by act 3 and weren't given the time they deserved to have resolution. Just some of my thoughts, and sorry for being late!

I loved it , it was like an MCU Greek epic with a great story. Third act was a bit messy but damn this movie was an adult MCU movie and it raised the intelligence of the MCU in a way where you have to think about the deeper means and stories they’re trying to tell. Almost every shot was was jaw dropping and the music was excellent. Very interesting to hear that thanos brother is evil cause to me he seems like a space pimp doing whatever he wants. Can’t wait to see what’s next

Good stuff, good movie! One of the complaints I see that I sort of agree with is the Deviants plot point didn't go anywhere, they could have done without the evolved one hunting them though I appreciate seeing Angelina Jolie fight it. I was hoping for more Kit Harrington because he's great but figured he'd be more of a set up for the future and what Coy says about Black Knight is good to hear! After Richard Madden was cast I was like thinking damn now he likely will be too busy to do Bond but I guess not! I like the ending of The Eternals way more than the ending of DUNE cliffhanger/sequel setup wise. Maybe it's my Marvel brainwashing lol

Thanos is an Eternal but is purple due to having the “deviant” gene. That’s why he’s hulking, purple, and mutant looking. His brother didn’t have the gene, that’s why he looked normal. Loved the movie, can’t wait for sequel.

Loved this movie. I came out of the theater with the opinion that I enjoyed it, but it was over all not amazing. But on rewatches it has gotten progressively better for me and now tops out as my second favorite MCU movie. I love the characters and how you really do know all ten of them and their positions on the moral quandary of saving the planet or allowing the celestial to be born. I loved the family dynamics and the opposition between Ikaris and Druig (and it makes a lot of sense that in early drafts the love triangle was supposed to be between them and Sersi…also glad that it got changed but I see its remnants and enjoy them). Druig and Makkari are my absolute favorite ship that came out of this movie. My criticisms of this movie end up being nit picky at this point but don’t affect my overall enjoyment. I do get annoyed with the times the reference how long Ikaris and Sersi were together because numbers on the screen tell us that they were together for 2500 years, not 5000. And I get annoyed when Druig references the Amazon forest as the last place they lived together because Tenochtitlan is in Mexico not the Amazon. But those are my biggest complaints.

Acting, writing, direction, and cinematography all worked to make a very different but engaging Marvel film.

I went in with very low expectations having watched several non-spoiler reviews on KZbin. Saw Eternals IMAX on Thursday Nov 4 with a friend who is not, repeat NOT, into MCU movies. Anyway, we both ENJOYED it very much. My friend said she's never seen so much action in a movie! Personally, I enjoyed the 3rd act action because omg, Ikaris constantly flying around using awesome eye laser beams...wow!!!! We had IMAX tickets for Sat Nov 6 for Eternals too. And yea, same thing...whole family ENJOYED the movie. Personally, Eternals had me at Hello - first viewing, low expectations, when I heard the first few notes to Pink Floyd - I was in, watched intently and listened carefully to all the dialogue. I know the movie has flaws but I'd say Eternals is a palette cleanser! It sure opens the door but since it's not a classic four quadrant movie (given general reaction is overall mediocre to okay). So yea, I'd say palette cleanser! For me, Eternals is totally rewatchable. Love the story of Ikaris - oh the tragedy! Give me more Ikaris. Maybe he survives the sun, or maybe since Arishem can churn out Eternals, maybe he can send our a new Ikaris. I hope this movie has enough legs...just something reasonable like Ant Man movies.

I had low expectations and tbh I still didn’t like it. For it to be a movie that connects to the MCU it feels so disconnected. There a bunch of retcons and plot holes that will start to bother me moving forward. I probably liked 2 characters tops and the second act was the only great part of the film to me.

I took my dad who was a big fan of comics. He nerded out a bit after about the differences between the movie and comics. We both enjoyed the movie. The post credits scenes were very interesting. I thought there was great story telling. I enjoyed getting everyone's perspective going into the 3rd act.

I loved this movie, the celestials reminded me of the engineers from Prometheus, really heady stuff about creation and how far we will go to stay alive. Could have watched another 3 hours of ancient history flashbacks, so cool.

First off, great discussion! I loved this movie. It was an amazing sci-fi adventure movie (I wasn't even thinking about Marvel) I so want to see it a 2nd time. I'm a big fan of the dysfunctional functional family. Loved the twist of the "bad" guy of the movie. Trailers had me thinking it was someone completely different. Post credit scenes showed us where it's going, and I called it on the voice of the 2nd PC scene. The guy next to me asked ' who was that?' I said Blade and he said oh s**t! It was a wonderful geek bonding moment! 😉😂
