Hi Everyone, I'm happy that this post has started a conversation. I always say that we don't know everything, so let's stop basing our knowledge on what we were taught and stay open-minded to new research and knowledge. Every year there are more studies being conducted by researchers, nutritionist, doctors, that debunk things we thought were true a couple of years back. Science is continually challenging itself. For those, professionals or not, who are telling me that there is no benefits to fasting, then how do you explain all these scientific papers on the subject, conducted by professionals (see links below)? How do you explain debates between nutritionists around the world? How do you explain second opinions from doctors? It's because Knowledge Evolves :) I'm not saying i know what's true, all im saying is that absolute truths are rare, so we should all just open our minds a little. www.cell.com/cell.../fulltext/S1550-4131(17)30612-5 www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4684131/ www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11416824 www.cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092-8674(17)30130-7 stm.sciencemag.org/content/9/377/eaai8700 www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21106691 www.sciencedirect.com/.../pii/S0104423013000213 www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19793855 www.sciencedirect.com/.../pii/S193152441400200X www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3106288/ www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC329619/

Erwan Heussaff well said. i've been wanting to do a cleanse but i never really got around to it. because i have low blood sugar and i don't think i can not eat. i get very dizzy if i don't eat and i have gastric too. so i think a juice cleanse will work better or a smoothie cleanse (is this a thing?). i heard consuming liquids is more gentle for your stomach to digest. i might try the juice cleanse, once i've stabilized my blood sugar.

I agree but if the reason you are fasting is because you want to lose weight then you should know that you should also do at least 1-2 hours on a treadmill and if you wanna do anything else then go ahead and after that you are free to play any videogames you want😊 Edit: and if you do plan on doing the treadmill, make sure to go at 4mph on a 6 incline and in 1 hour straight you would be burning exactly 1000 calories.

I've been trying to water fast for a year now but miserably failed multiple times (farthest was 2 days). Now I am proud to say that I finally did the 7 days!!! Went from 62kg to 59kg, I basically lied down and held my phone the whole time lol. It was a lot easier to do with the whole quarantine/lockdown thing. Yet again, mental toughness is key 💪🏻 UPDATE: After 2 years, I went from 59kg to 54kg mostly by intermittent fasting. I eat A LOT still but I'm glad I don't gain weight as fast as I did before. The water fast really did jumpstart my healthy weight maintenance (mind you, I get zero exercise). Thinking of doing a 7-day water fast again soon to reset my body and feel good 😊

That’s how I’ve been able to keep to it! Stay outta the kitchen and watching videos on here to keep my mind off of food! The first day was the easiest! I kept myself busy I forgot to drink too. Smh but then the second day came and it was tough! I was tired but I got through it and kept drinking water every time I felt thirsty or hungry. I lost almost 20 pounds!!! Overall I wouldn’t do this type of fast again. I just do Intermittent fasting. I fast 20:4 and sometimes 16:8. I fast every other day.

If you’re younger than 18 please eat... at least try OMAD or Alternate Day Fasting, and do light exercise , maybe a 15 minute walk (mile) a day. Fasting is healthy for bodies that are fully developed. If you’re still growing your body needs to eat. Fasting is primal but so was dying children due to not getting enough food to survive & pregnant women not getting enough food when they were developing a kid.... unless you’re a 18+ year old, eat a little (:

So I tried water fasting for 11 days and here's a general overview to give you people a clearer perspective of what to expect on a daily basis: Day 1: pretty bearable, just mild cravings. Day 2: increased sense of smell, you will crave for food so bad that anything edible is a temptation. Day 3: very low energy level, light-headedness, fatigue, i was on the verge of collapsing (probable reason for this is that i did heavy cardio the night before) Day 4: though this very rarely happens; i had a very mild keto rash, not itchy at all, it's just small red bumps on my back but barely noticable, went away within a few days, energy was still subpar yet not as bad that the other days Day 5: i started to lose interest on the general idea of eating and consumption of food. Day 6-7: i enter literally God mode (high energy level, increased productivity and mental alertness). Day 8 -11: as if im doing the things i naturally do throughout the day minus the need for food, though I feel way thirstier than usual (consumed ~40% more water) I then decided to break my fast since I miss the taste of food (though im not craving for it) probably lost 6-7ish kgs and a good % of body fat. So my tip is that if you feel tired, drink water! if you're hungry, drink water! mental cravings? drink water! just endure up until that 4th day mark then afterwards you can easily extend your water fast further, but obviously don't over do it.

I did sleep more often than I should, my body was always tired, my lower back would hurt, my siblings thought I was dying because they could see my hip bones. They thought I looked unhealthy but after I was done fasting I literally could fit into a size 32 and I used to wear size 40. Absolutely loved it. My appearance was different, I didn’t look the same it was almost like I evolved over the course of a month into someone my family and friends would say was very different. They were used to seeing me obese and unhealthy and always eating. I was in high school as well and a lot of people in my classes would be extremely surprised at how much weight I lost. I was the typical person who would get bullied about my weight. I’ll never forget my journey fasting, the compliments, family and friends reactions, feeling fit and athletic for once. Not being afraid to take off my shirt around crowds at the beach. I loved fasting and even though I gained my weight back I’ll do again because I proved many wrong.

I'm on day 5 of a 5-day water fast. I can’t wait until tomorrow! I did my 5 day fast for a body reset. I've done a 7-day water fast before, and it was really challenging. Many water fasters will report that they felt very light and energized from around day 4-5. I never experienced that. What didn't help either was that I watched basically all episodes of Chef's Table on Netflix in a row 🙈. I finally broke my fast with some cucumber and avocado. And it was heavenly, lol! This time around, it was easier. The first 3 days were pretty bearable actually, I still got to do some work. But on day 4, I couldn't function. All I did was lay on the couch and watch series. I don't even want to watch anything anymore, but it's a way to keep me occupied cause I don't have the energy to work. I'm also experiencing brain fog: yesterday, it took me 5 minutes to figure out what day it was... This is the final day, and I feel more or less similar to yesterday. The end is near, though 😀. I like what Matt of Yes Theory said about his water fast and seeking discomfort: _"You have to force yourself to lack things. Otherwise, you're just going to think everything is kinda normal, available and you're not gonna appreciate it."_ Doing this fast gave me a newfound appreciation for the good things in life, especially all the tasty delicious foods out there that sometimes I may take for granted. I'm a big proponent of slow living, and doing a 5 day water fast will surely slow you down. In that sense, it also has a spiritual component. We've been given this amazing body, and we need to nurture it to be able to function properly. But by overfeeding it, we're actually doing ourselves a disservice. A fast is a way to reset your body and give it time to heal. And it makes me appreciate that, without a healthy body, everything I want to do and put out there in the world, cannot happen.

Hey the reason why your old injuries started to hurt again was because when your body has more energy to heal, it'll go back to problem areas to completely fulfill the healing process. That can cause irritation. It's uncomfortable but a good sign. It was not a sign of physical hunger. You can actually go 3x as long before you would begin to feel actual hunger.

Ali Akhdar I was doing intermittent fasting and I started to feel sensations in my foot where I had injured and numbed due to an accident some years back. so during intermittent fasting, felt a bit of tingling pain which surprised me because it's supposed to be numb. perhaps it's like what you mentioned, it's healing.

I ALSO noticed that "This was a walk in the park" came after an entire video of her constantly bitching about how bored she was. That actually raises an issue that was not addressed here. Similar to when you quit smoking, you find that it's not the cigarette/food you're really missing or craving. It's the associations you have with it. If you're usually eating a snack or having a smoke during the monologue of a late night talk show, you're going to want to eat/smoke not because you're hungry or craving a cigarette, but because you're used to eating or smoking while watching that particular thing. It's just what you're used to doing. Also, when you're used to keeping your hands busy with those things at certain points of the day, you feel like you're "doing nothing" while watching TV or reading, when you actually weren't doing anything more than eating/smoking WHILE doing the same thing. Still, that produces a sense of boredom. BTW, did you take a look at that coffee? I know some people say that coffee is fine if you're intermitant fasting (I assume those people are coffee addicts), but even THEY would consider that beige mixture she had in her mug as binging.

I did it myself and this is what happened. Fastened for 7 days, only water. Age: 40. Initial weight: 144.4 lbs; Final weight: 131.2; Drop: 13.2 lbs. This is what happened to me: First three days I dropped weight very fast, after that very slowly. By day 5 I had bradycardia and my pulse rate was between 55 - 60. Day 5 was the worst: very tired, shortness of breath and constant fatigue. Days 6 and 7, weak and easily tired by minor physical activity (ie, climbing the stairs). Three days after the fasting I developed salivary gland infection due to reduce saliva flow. Four days after the fasting I gained six pounds fast, reaching my ideal weight. Now still struggling with swollen salivary glands and trying to keep the right weight. Conclusion: effective but with serious side effects.
@jennyvinyl856 жыл бұрын
I asked an MD in my workplace and he said that since this is the first time ever I got this infection it probably came out from the fasting. Reductions in the amount of saliva are known to increase the risk of oral diseases.

that's keto flu... just like a smoker that went cold turkey. your body is adjusting from burning sugar/carbs to fat. after 48 hours, the glycogen in your liver will be depleted and will switch to stored fat for fuel. always drink water w/ minerals (potassium, salt) so that you will not feel those keto sickness (headaches, cramps etc) if you want to break a extended fast, you must introduce food slowly for at least 2-3 days because the body is salt sensitive and have a slow metabolism. drink bone broth because its rich in collagen. its will help line your gut with it so you will not get cramps..

I’m 23 and this was my experience : Day1: felt amazing, did ab/arms/back exercises and cardio and did not really feel hungry (had a banana smoothie before i decided to start the fast though) Day2: morning was feeling great but come afternoon I was feeling abit nauseous and as i drank more water, i felt worse.. (probs cuz of lack of electrolytes/sodium) also felt really cold and weak… after 2 hr nap, i still felt tired and tingles on my skin so i just took it easy and rested. After some research, i decided to chew on a few Himalayan salt to add some electrolyte back in my system and sleep Day3: felt great! No more headaches! I took supplements (magnesium) and added himalayan salt to my water for some electrolytes. Also drank less water since i’m pretty sure i got water intoxicarion from drinking too much water too fast on day2. I was able to sleep well although i woke up a few times, but i fell back asleep right away (i’m a heavy sleeper :) Overall i love the fast! Day4: woke up in the early morning feeling more energized! I had more energy so i did some self care and yoga, drank some salt water, took some magnesium and started work. Then i broke my fast with watermelon! Decided to do 3 days instead of 7 😊 Lost a total of 4lbs but it’s probably all just water weight haha. Good luck to anyone trying it! Update 3 weeks later: I’m not exercising now and I’m eating normally, and on some days even unhealthily w/ chips, ice cream & alot of snacks. I gained back 2lbs~ but the other 2lbs are still off :) Psychologically, i don’t really have cravings anymore and when I do, i have more control to stop them. I make better choices now because i think to myself: my body didn’t fight through 3 days of fasting to make it all go to waste! The fast definitely made a lasting impact on my brain and body.

I have began to fast roughly 2 months ago due to the pandemic crisis. I strongly recommend DO NOT go fasting for several days for the 1st time of your life, as you might experience anger, depression, aggressiveness, irritability or at least that's what happened to me. Start small, 1 fast of 24 hours/week or 16/8 for 1day/week for 4 weeks then u can go 2 days/week for1 month, then 3days/week 1 month and so on. I have fasted for 3 days/week for the past month and i don't even crave food for the 1st day or other days of the fast, it is beautifully natural like breathing air. Now my problems are that i experience minor episodes of cramps, as in i feel i might get one but i dont get it, and it makes me paranoid that my body is lacking minerals, and it happens even when i eat during the week, so it might not be fast-related but it started right as i started to fast. Another problem that i face is these blasted migraines that are not that bad but annoying cuz it gives me a health scared in the sense that something bad might happen to my brain, and they are not intense and they do not last for over an hour but still annoying to deal with. I need to do more research on it, but for now i feel fine, i can focus, i am lucid but still i want to be extra-careful bcz it is still a new area of discovery for mankind and its long lasting effects. Some updates: After listening to some dude going in-depth about fasting it appears that my problems stem from my lack of salt intake during my fasting. I should do 1 spoon/day but i did almoast none. I will do this next time with my 3 day fast and see if i experience the bliss of fasting without headaches or cramps.

I'm planning to fast for 12 days: Starting weight: 166 lbs Day 1: Got cravings and was very hungry, but the first day is the hardest. Day 2: Weight dropped to 164.2 lbs, most likely just water weight. I Felt a bit tired and hungry but the hunger subsided later in the evening. So far I'm feeling really good about the fasting and really excited for the benefits! Day 3: Today I felt more energetic, and my weight dropped to 162.6 lbs. Although I was energetic I felt lightheaded when standing up, probably electrolyte imbalance or dehydration. It was difficult give in to eating since my sense of smell was so profound. It's my 4th time fasting and I notice every time that after day 3 everything gets easier. Day 4: Not many cravings today, felt similar to day three but a bit more dizziness. Weight stayed at 162.2 lbs. Day 5: Weigh came down to 161.4 lbs. I am hoping to surpass my last fast which lasted 5 days. Had a headache in the morning but otherwise quite energetic. Hunger pangs have completely disappeared and I don't find myself desiring food surprisingly.

What I have learned: 1. You have to add some salt to the water. You need the electrolytes or your body shuts down. 2. If you are going to do a longer fast (longer than 2-3 days) you should only fast until you are hungry that second time. The first time you are hungry (after 2-3 days) is your body not wanting to get in to ketosis. The second time is when your body has exhausted fat stores. We are all animals. We were made to fast like this. That is how we, as a species survived when food was not so easily found nor abundant.
@camsielove60036 жыл бұрын
Richard Gomes can i ask if what salt??????
@richardgomes37076 жыл бұрын
Any salt will work. Sea salt is better. Mined salt is best since it still has all of the minerals. I will usually put about 1/8-1/4 of a tsp per 8oz of water (minimum 1tsp/gallon)

@richardgomes37076 жыл бұрын
You need to get salt and minerals when you are doing a fast. The major reason that most people start feeling their mind go is because of the fact that they are lacking electrolytes. Drinking water without electrolytes (salts) dilutes your system.

Currently dealing with parioral dermatitis (on my face) I have been on the water fast for three days and it has really really helps clear out my skin and the bonus part is I am down 9.2 pounds in three days. I have done a seven day water fast before a 10 day water fast and honestly it depends on how much is in your system At the time of your fast which will determine how much weight you will lose. I have lost 11 pounds in a seven day fast. I have lost 13 pounds in A seven day fast. And I have lost 14 pounds in a 10 day fast. I feel like I am losing a lot more weight rapidly because I’ve been eating like crap for a week that hasn’t flushed out properly. I would suggest to stay positive and have faith if you are trying to lose weight on water fast. Do not lose faith … the more you lose faith the harder it will be to lose weight or stay doing the fast.

From what I've learned about fasting, extended fasting can lead to autophagy (cellular recycling) which can help with old injuries. So maybe your old injury flare ups was actually your body trying to work on healing it again.

I'm a 62 year old male 6 feet tall and started a water fast at 240lbs and stopped after 14 days and weighed 215, waited two weeks and fasted for 4 days and weighed 210. I had about 3 quarts of water a day with apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and cream of tartar (potassium) mixed in, also would have about a half of teaspoon of salt a day. I'm starting a new fast today at 210 for as long as it takes to get to my goal of 190. I use homemade beef bone broth to end the fast for the first day then start adding soft solids like eggs and avocados and then back to normal. What I learned from my first fast was eating was more of a habit, you're used to eating 2 to 3 meals a day and start thinking about food at the times you would normally eat even if you are not hungry. I would also recommend being in ketosis when you start a fast, it makes it easier when you are already burning fat

Best of luck. I would recommend people try intermittent fasting before going full bore fasting. Start with a 8 hour feeding windows, then 4 hour. Cut down to one meal a day. It will make the transition to full fasting easier. Just my opinion.

Carnivore, that's hard core. Like i said I started off 16-8 and have moved to 20-4. Going to start a 3 day snake fast diet next week, maybe longer depending on how i feel.You and others are really inspiring me to really try the water fasting....maybe even dry fasting soon. We are similar, I am 59, 6 ft 2in and was 230 (now 218). My diet is more paleo striving to get to keto. Hope to be be around 200 by end of year.
@MrGregroberts556 жыл бұрын
I'm on my third day and last evening I had some serious food cravings, but if you drink water and wait they go away. The same thing happens with any habit. On my first 14 day fast the food cravings stop around the fourth day, can't wait! What is a snake fast? I don't think dry fasting is a good idea, both my parents ended in the hospital from being dehydrated.

Some tips: always find something to do, for instance, boredom or solitude brings me back to binges, agree with yourself for the reasons you re doing this, for me was more than a challenge, try to understand yourself more, let all the negative meaning go far from you - I ve made big changes now in my life. I have been fasting for about 10 years now (on and off of course). Although I agree with short term fasting is HIGHLY beneficial, I still must voice my concern about doing any exercising during a fast. Please dont do it... When you consume 0 calories you are consuming 0 protein. Thus when you work out, your body consumes your own muscle mass and muscle content to supplement the lack of protein you are not consuming. Since your major organs are comprised of protein, your muscles and organs start to literally become consumed by your body. You can still be physically active, just please do not over exert yourself. Otherwise doing a fast for health benefits becomes counterproductive!

Your main mistake was going to the gym during fast. What you don't understand is that your brain uses Glucose and working out puts so much pressure because you burn glucose too fast that you get significant more hunger and a shortage to support your brain so you end up without energy and mostly without the efforia you feel 4 days in a fast. Never do sports or any actifity during water fasting. It's dangerous!!! Having a shortage on Sodium (salt) is also a big problem. Not having enough sodium in your body will take you down eventually. One of the most dangerous things to do on a fast is ignoring these rules. If this was a 3 week fast and you would have kept going to the gym you could have ended up getting a blackout and put into a coma. Please don't promote people doing a waterfast with activity and please make people clear to get their health monitored during the fast. Getting to low levels of Sodium can actually kill if people decide to do long weeks of fasting without being monitored and without relaxing. General rule is half or 1 theespoon of salt a day. This again differs between each person depending on their current sodium levels!
