53 years old, overweight, really falling apart physically. Always been super sugar addicted, and never had the will power to fast until now. I'm on day 3, and simply blown away how good I already am feeling!! Mental clarity and my mood are , I'm struggling to find the right words, so surprisingly good! I'm just so stoked to go a whole week with this water and coffee only fast. I went on a roadtrip yesterday, (day 2) and I just simply could not believe that i was able to watch my family eating their delicious smelling McDonald's breakfast, and later in the day, Wendy's food, and I'm talking fries and chocolate frostys, everything yummy, and i was just fine!!! I have also now gained a whole new peace of mind, and confidence, in knowing that if crap ever hits the fan, i can go a HECK of a long time without food if necessary. I am now determined to begin incorporating occasional fasting and better food choices, along with smaller meal portions and exercise into my new future life! Update Aug 10 2024. I only ended up doing a 3 day fast back then. I weighed 296lbs at the beginning, but something happened with that 3 day fast, that made it easy to adjust my meal portions, and i think it was easing into the 'refeading' phase that made it easy to eat less. Most the time now, we only will eat 2 meals a day, instead of 3, and really try to stay away from all sweets. Anyway, I now weigh 258-260, legs and toes no longer tingle, legs feel lighter and just generally feel much better. However I've hit a 260lb plateau with recently sneaking junk food back into my diet, and feel that I still need to lose another 40lbs so here I go to reset the system with another 3 day fast and maybe this time I'll go a whole week.

Start doing 24-48 water fast a few times then grow over time. I do rolling 4-5 day water fast. Make sure to break the fast with soft foods like watermelon, peaches, bone broth and other foods easy on the belly. If you don’t, you will experience diarrhea due to bile not breaking down food in gut before fast. Also if you don’t want loose skin, make sure you avoid meat that soon and other harsh foods that soon.
@alvarojneto2 ай бұрын
I mostly do 23:1 (though with questionable consistency) on a daily basis. I jumped on the 3-day water fast because of the autophagy effects. Since I've always been very healthy, it's hard to tell if it has been worth it for me, I am simply trusting the experts on this. But what I can say is that you can get used to them once you do them enough times (I do 3-day once a month). And, regarding motivation, it is certainly true. I still have a sugar addiction, but it has dissipated tremendously since starting the 3-day fasts.

As you may have found, after the 48 hour point (or so), hunger fades as do urges to snack. You will begin to feel more awake as your body switches to ketones for fuel. If you are male and your BMR is in the region of 2500 calories per day, during a fast, you only need an additional 1000 calories to lose through gentle exercise or very short HIIT and you have the potential to shed at least 1lb per day, perhaps more. The sleep thing is more important than suggested, as our bodies do some of its best work during quality 7+ hours of deep sleep. Watch more of these video presentations as you fast, for knowledge, inspiration and motivation. It works for me. I'm 63M, 195cm and have dropped from 133kg to 104kg (though I gained a bit of weight over the summer, I'm now fasting to get back on track). My immunesystem became really weak after a medical intervention 2021. Was sick at least a week out of every month. After 18 months of this I decided to do a 7 day water fast. I only managed 5 days. But on day 3 of refeeding I felt strong again. For the first time in 18 months it felt like my immunesystem was working again. Not a complete fix but it felt like it went from 40% up to 80%. Was so happy. But one must be very careful with the refeeding. I did a second 5 day fast 4 months later. Broke the fast with a big bowl of bone broth, the an hour later another big bowl of bone broth. I got so sick. My body got really stressed. Several hours later I had to throw up because I was feeling so bad. Felt like I was dying. I was weak and sick for several weeks after that. Once I got som strenght back, like 5 weeks later I did a 4 day fast and came back pretty strong again after that. Made sure to break it with just a small portion of broccoli. I have done a 3 day and a 4 day fast since then. They went well. Going to do a 5 day fast in a few weeks time agsin. But oh how importsnt the refeeding part is. I cant stress this enough. Fasting is so powerful when done right, but just a small misstep or a big bowl of bonebroth can really make you worse of going out of the fast than you were going in.

I am a mail man and a powerlifter and I absolutely love the 5 day water fast and have gotten some incredible healing from them over the years! Just a little bit of advice for the people like me who do very physical jobs. I only do 1 workout during my fast and it's the morning of day 1. After that I will supplement with potassium and branch chain amino acids twice that day. After that I will do a full water fast. I just feel that really helps me transition well into the full fast without excess soreness or fatigue from the workout. When transitioning out of the fast I will also eat a ketogenic diet for a week like Dr sung says. I will work out twice during that week. The first day I will repeat the workout I did on day 1 of the fast with 70% of the weight. The second workout will be with 85%. I won't do another 100% workout until 2 or 3 days after reintroducing carbs. All In all it's about a 2 week period but I think the health benefits are really worth it. I did one meal a day fasting for 16 months and that included fasting from social media by deleting em all and not fornicating nor playing with my privates. God revealed Himself to me at midnight as flames twisting coming down from Heaven and it consumed all of my darkness. After that, I wept and said I couldn't live without you Jesus even when I was still an atheist but was tired of the world and was truly searching for the truth. Right in that moment, I was given a beautiful voice to sing for His glory as family and friends xan profess that I was tone deaf and I was 33 then and I am 40 now and retired. I dont fear any man anymore and my EKG reading went normal and my doctor was baffled cuz I told him that I wasnt going to take the meds he wanted to prescribe me. God is real and He loves you!

Started water fast 3 days ago, felt great, no desire for food even from day 1, on day 2, I drove 800km interstate on my own, it was probably the best drive I’ve ever had, I was not tired at all throughout the journey. I just needed a stretch every time I fuelled up. I felt so alert. 3rd day and I’m feeling great. At no stage was I feeling hungry nor desire for food. I was initially only doing a 3 day fast, but since I feel so great I’m going to continue. I’ve done juice fasts for 14 days in the past. I’d like to take this water fast to 30 days, we’ll see how I go.

In Sept. '22, I did a 7 day DRY fast. No food, no water. I simply told myself, if I get a headache, I'd stop. No harm, no foul. I did it because my mom passed away from diabetes at 62 and my habits haven't been so great as of late at that time. On day one, there wasn't any problem, as I was expecting a headache. On day two, I was expecting a headache but no headache. So far, so good. On day three, again, no headache, so I knew day four was probably going to be a headache....... NOOOO!! On day four, I felt better than I did before I started the fast!! I was truly amazed; however, the one problem I did have was DRY MOUTH. As it turned out, I was testing for a new job, which included an oral exam. The examiner had me repeat a couple of verbal answers because the dry mouth was that bad!😂 The dry mouth subsided after about an hour. I GOT THE JOB! Day five had me thinking about extending the dry fast but since I did not consult a doctor beforehand, I decided to continue aiming for the seven days (166 hours). On day seven, I woke up early and ran and jogged to the Publix Supermarket. That's where I had weighed myself the day I started the fast. For those of you in the South, Publix Supermarket, along with their pristine appearance and customer service, they're known for having their scale in the vestibule area of their stores. I was so energized! By the way, the supermarket is about 3 miles from where I live (nearly 5k)! I wore very light clothing because I knew I would take most of it off when I got there. Just running shoes, no socks, mesh shorts and a tee shirt. I weighed myself and saw I lost 17 lbs.!! Just in seven days!! I felt so good. I walked back home and broke the fast with a cauliflower pizza, with pepperoni, sausage and mushrooms. I only ate two slices, as I was not very hungry. I also drank some lemon water. Now, let me be transparent. I was doing OMAD (One Meal A Day), for about 1.5 months before deciding to do it. I also read a lot about doing a dry fast and watched videos. I know, I didn't consult my doctor and that was because I didn't want to get talked out of it. I knew there were risks and I was fine taking them. Fast forward to July '24, I have run several 5k races, a half-marathon last December '23, a 15k last March, another 5k in June '24, I just completed a 5k on July 4th and have a challenge of three races in 24 hours called "The Tour De Pain" in August! All of this while prepping for another half-marathon in Oct, and then I may close it out with another 5k for Wounded Warriors in November. I am now 52 years old!! I just started a 7 day water fast yesterday and will continue to prep for my Oct. half-marathon. I run just 3 times a week, which includes a long run on Sundays and conditioning runs the other two days. In addition, I do some light weight training. My long run this Sunday is 11 miles (17.7k) at an easy pace. I feel good about what I am doing. I never thought I'd be a runner like this, let alone eating properly a lot more often than not. I still get Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia on occasion but when I say stop to any vice, I usually mean it!😉

I will say that breaking a fast should be fine with fruits first. Doctors recommend breaking a fast this way. During a fast, the body is detoxing. It’s not wise to break a fast with animal products because you are putting toxins back into a body that has been detoxing. You will shock your system that way. Basically, you should break your fast with fruits and vegetables, including whole fruits/vegetables and juiced fruits/vegetables to ease your body back out of intense detoxification. I’m 63 and vegan for 8 years. I’ve read a lot about the subject of toxic substances. Animal products are particularly toxic to the body. On fasting, I would encourage you to read the works of Dr. Fred Bisci also.

Day 5 begins at 9:30PM for me today! I can see the difference in my skin the most, it’s amazing actually. Fine lines, gone. Dark circles, gone. My right knee had been bothering me, but now the pain is gone. I’ve only ever done 2 other extended fast (11day and 3days). I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to do this one. But my sugar addiction had been getting intense, I was so sluggish, and my weight started to creep up. Im so glad I started. Not only to prove to myself that I have the strength to, but to heal my body and readdress my relationship with food. So so so worth it!

3 day fasts are just as healing! I've done both 3 and 5 day fasts and imho you don't need to extend to 5 days for all the benefits ! However, there's no harm in trying ❣️
@carl85687 ай бұрын
Depends what you're trying to heal. Ketosis only really starts after day 3-4 and that's where the deepest healing begins. There's a good reason why people do 7, 14, 18, 21, 30, 40 day water fasts. For chronic issues even a 7 day fast is very unlikely to cut it, unless you do many of them. This is what the experts suggest and my personal experience is 3-4 day fasts haven't given much in the way of noticable benefits and I've done a number of them.

@@QUINTUSMAXIMUS That's great. I have done a 6 day fast but I had to take some time off work because my energy level was very low. And it's best to rest up whilst fasting anyway, except for some walking, you will reach deeper healing if you are not stressed with work. Periodic 3-4 day fasts are still very beneficial though.

I've done a 21 day water fast just for the experience. It wasn't terrible but wasn't a breeze either...probably more due to boredom and wanting to at least drink something with flavor. The best thing about it was that my chronic rosacea was cured but that wasn't the reason I did it. It was a great experience and I'm glad I persevered. Going without food is not only a good thing but nothing to fear! That's probably the most valuable lesson I've learned. I may do this 5 day fast because I haven't done one in awhile...just intermittent fasting, usually 22/2. Hope it's ok to share this other source of info.
