I loved Gil but the guy was ball hogging taking 30 shots and chucking 10 threes in that era and on very low efficiency. what makes him better now? absolutely nothing….. i still cant believe Gil couldnt get past LeBron witb the team he had in comparison to Bron.

Shaq broke the game down on TNT one night while criticizing Howard. He said be determined to get at least 7 points a quarter from field goals, 2 or 3 rebounds a quarter, and draw fouls all game. Not only was he dominant, he was determined. Today, that 7 a quarter average definitely goes up to 10 a quarter. =40

@@terricarter9435 since when are facts “hate?” I get that your emotions are attached to Kobe but anyone who understands basketball and watched the game in real time understands this (and it’s not exclusive to Kobe). Shaq was unstoppable on the paint. A steady diet of passing him the ball in the post was a higher FG% than anything your emotions have you believing Kobe could have done on the perimeter, which was further from the basket. Shaq was so big and powerful that he could’ve averaged 45ppg easily AND they’d have still been championship contenders because it would have been simply a matter of him catching and dunking play after play.

If he said Kobe you wouldn’t have liked it but since he said Shaq it’s fine. I don’t think refs would allow Shaq to throw elbows and shoulder down players like they did in the 90s and 2000s. Pretty sure everyone says having a jump shot is essential to survive in this league Shaq can’t shoot from anywhere especially the free throw line. He can’t guard pick and rolls effectively nor the perimeter. Not saying he would be a bum but he wouldn’t be as good.

Gil's Arena: Modern Shaq would need shooting. Actual Shaq: Did not do any shooting at all. Conclusion?: Would dominate Todays game. I love Shaq, but that type of player would not work in todays game. Way to many holes in his game. (shooting, free throws, shot creating, playmaking). What makes Jokic so great right now is his allroundedness, his ability to exploit whatever defence with his vast array of skills. It's such a different game that you can't really compare these players or put them in respective eras.

I think people are underestimating the glaring weaknesses of Shaq's game. The one time Shaq's Lakers teams even faced a semblance of a modern team - i.e the 2002 Kings - they were getting exposed. The '02 Kings ran those double high post sets with Webber/Divac, and Mike Bibby was destroying LA with long 20 footers, which would be 3-pointers today. 2 years later, Chauncey Billups completely broke that Lakers dynasty down to shreds.
@Scottdvz

Shaq is arguably the only player who would dominate any era. You can argue how the game has evolved and certain players wouldn’t stand out as much today because the modern guys have all their moves and more etc. But peak Shaq in the early 2000’s when he was 330 and explosive as all hell was one of a kind. There was nothing that could stop him then or since. Fools say “but Hakeem” 😂😂😂 Hakeem was in his prime. Shaq was in his third year in the league and Shaq still walked away with something crazy like 28 points, 12 boards and six assists on 60% shooting. 2000 Shaq would have murdered Hakeem

Back in the day Shaq was getting pushed around and the ref's told him he wasn't going to get calls so he bulked up so he could push through the contact and be dominant. He could be Orlando Shaq and be faster and more agile. Shaq was also a good passer despite what his assist numbers suggest. 9/10 when he got the ball the best play was for him to make a move rather than pass. You can't tell me these greats wouldn't practice for the game as it currently exists. They wouldn't be the same players. But in terms of plug and play, Mcgrady and Carter are both good candidates since they already shot 3s in addition to having their playmaking ability and ability to slash and drive.

Guys like Christian Laetner, Raef Lafrentz, Mehmet Okur, and prime Danilo Gallinari would be really damn good in today's game. I'll even go on a limb and say Nikoloz Tskitishvili would have been at least a 12 ppg and 6 rpg guy in today's game.

Jokic embodies “dominance” more than Shaq. Shaq needs to score 30-40 pts for his team to win. Jokic can score 12 and still Nuggets be winning just coz Jokic impacted the game in other ways. Jokic more versatile and hard to rea. With Shaq, you know what your getting and end-game liability.

You crazy. The Magic were in 14th place the year before they drafted Shaq in 92-93 season, he got them to the NBA finals in 1995. Pretty obvious you never saw Shaq play live, especially in his Orlando days when he had quadruple doubles at a time when the league had numerous All Star centers which hardly exist today.

But people forget how Glen Rice will be deadly in this era he will rsemble KD style of play because he is 6'10" with handles and can shoot the lights out, if giiven this same amount of shots in 3's, the dude is a walking bucket both 3's and perimeter

Doesn't have to be Superstars. It has role players and stars/starters who games would fit really well in this era: Arvdas Sabonis, Peja, Derrick Coleman, Sam Perkins. As for Shaq, players like Giannis and Rudy Golbert are doing great in this era, so the narrative that Shaq can't defend the pick and toll screen at the 3 point arch is false. Shaq would dominate the way he dominated in his era.

I don’t think ppl talk about the defensive side of this era. Yea shaq can average 35+ but he will also have to guard crazy pick and rolls. Which he wasn’t great at. He has to go out to the three point line to guard someone which isn’t that easy. Drop that exact shaq into this era. He would have trouble defensively, so he would possibly be a hacker

Shaq couldn’t play the way he played plus he gon have to play the stretch for the three. Then they gon keep sending him to the free throw line. If they can’t hack a shaq then that’s different. He gon dominate on points, rebounds, and blocks. Dude can’t shoot though. I’m torn because what made shaq so dominant then would get him fouled out and even suspended.
