After the sequels, Disney's second greatest mistake with Star Wars was handing the reins (mostly) to Dave Filoni. While some hail him as a savior of the franchise, his approach often feels more like fan service dressed up as storytelling, doubling down on lore at the expense of depth. The more shows and movies they hand this man, the more he dilutes the franchise. It is sad that what was once the most iconic and popular franchise in the world has been reduced (on-screen) to the whims of a third-rate fan fiction writer. How did we fall from a richly woven, multifaceted universe to a hollow shell where the canon is dominated by one man’s self-indulgent drivel? I’m just sick of him ruining other people’s characters to prop up his OCs. The franchise definitely deserves far better than being held hostage by Filoni who clearly doesn’t understand its legacy.
@lord_egg2 күн бұрын
Filoni is also really egotistical. I know lots of people don't care about the canon but it's something that I do, and it's really sad to see Filoni constantly retcon and change other people's stories. Then make his characters integral to the continuation of Star Wars, only for those characters to be pale imitations of their past selves. (* Cough cough * Ahsoka should have been killed by Vader. * Cough cough *)

TL;DR: -George lucas went insane in the 90s and cobbled out mediocre prequels -SW fans believed they knew best and accept fanservice or nothing at all -Disney buys SW for 4.5 billion, rushes things out and botches sequels -Modern day SW is a bloated, mediocre filled mess with no direction, no plan, and no purpose

it's kinda crazy how star wars at this time is basically just a lifeless corpse they keep parading around in the disney investors meetings...such a shame too but I've grown too apathetic to care about their projects, now I only care to hear about their latest fuck-ups cause that's the more entertaining story every time

@luckykennedy7364 It’s even worse when you consider the series cost even more because UK tax filing showcases the actual costs spending. Hollywood studios love using the UK for tax breaks which they do in exchange for utilizing UK labor behind the scenes and that they must disclose that information publicly. It’s hard to decipher( the law doesn’t stipulate how it’s presented) but if you go through it; it reveals a very big, sad picture. And the thing is that the budget is bad but the misuse of the money is even worse.

It's completely lost everything that made it special. The character writing from the OT and and world building from the prequels haven't been matched yet. All they are doing ever since the mandalorian season 1 is just making characters constantly meet other characters from the universe and making it seem smaller. They keep reusing old concepts (order 66 in almost every show) while adding nothing new and memorable. And if they would just call it a kid franchise (which it originally was), it still wouldn't be a good excuse since you have numbers of kids shows/cartoons that adults can enjoy, for example older disney and DreamWorks movies.

Do I hate Disney? No, Do I hate the people they let in charge? Kinda
@Toshiro932 күн бұрын
@@connormarchand6302 The paradoxical thing is that, technically, the people in charge at Lucasfilm have worked for decades with the Hollywood elite: you can appreciate Lucas (or Spielberg) or not appreciate him, but it is undeniable that as a director and creator of worlds he has left his mark on the cinematographic landscape (and not only). Even just by osmosis, those who worked closely with it should have learned how to narrate Star Wars and what to narrate. perhaps more than hatred, we can speak of disappointment, because there have been many missed opportunities from 2015 onwards and many were served on a silver platter, it would have been enough to let the sequel trilogy settle and think carefully about the direction to follow.. .to think that they didn't plan three films from the beginning is something absurd and incomprehensible.

Great video man. I’m not going to lie, part of me just wants Disney to let Star Wars rest until they can find a new creative direction to take it.
@Avarn3883 күн бұрын
Great video. I would say Star Wars is "dead" but on a creative front. it will always have fan support in some shape or form. Honestly, there's so much wrong with modern Disney Star Wars but if I had to nail two things horribly lacking it is a lack of depth and intentionality. What do I mean? I will start with the former. Star Wars what made it great was that the simple premise of the light and dark side you could explore so much about it. The OT explored this fantastically with the concept of taking the easy path vs the right path and how even those motivated by good intentions can go bad. This is especially the case with how the series has utilized the Force. I was rereading the Legacy comics(they are fantastic) and something I liked was how Cade Skywalker having Force healing was significant. In universe it was a rare ability and while Cade could bring people back to life, he threatens himself going to the dark side. This caused his Jedi master to tell him not to use it, claiming it perverts the Force and he risks loosing himself. And the series explores that with great depth. Contrast that with Rise of Skywalker where Rey gets the power and there's zero limitations and the ramifications of that ability aren't explored. Pathetic. This is just one of many problems with modern Disney Star Wars that has pushed me away. Outside Andor, I really do not care. If Disney wants to capture my interest or anyone like me, they need to really go back to the drawing board. Have a strong, consistent vision who can be creative but cogent when creating their stories. Or at the very least execute more archetypical stories better. Case in point, Transformers One which was fantastic, and that story in its simplest form was two friends falling out.

@TK-9851 I had to confront a cousin trying to utilize that when trying to defend the Sequels over Thanksgiving and boy did I go after him. Even if you want to use the kids argument, that's no excuse for kids stuff not being good. I grew up with the Toy Story films and a lot of great pixar films and plenty of great TV shows meant for kids, like last Airbender. And I'd argue that since we're dealing with children, who depending on their age, absorb this stuff like sponges, having quality media actually helps them develop and grow. Heck, I wouldn't be the person I was without Luke Skywalker. The OT taught me the importance of never giving up; always striving to do your best even if things seemed hopeless, and the importance of friendship. These are simple messages but they can leave an impact on children even as they become adults.

Star Wars’s biggest issue has and likely always will be a lack of cohesion. This is an issue which has plagued the franchise since Legends. Creators want to create _their_ Star Wars story without taking into consideration how it plays into the bigger picture, and so many stories just end up irrelevant to characters’ growth. Lucasfilm REALLY needs someone or a team of people to oversee the media that comes out to make sure it all works with each other. A franchise showrunner, if you will.

You use of the term “drifter” completely undermines your intent. I saw nothing in the criticism about the Acolyte that pointed to grifters. Nope, just people who called a spade a spade, in this case calling out a cheap looking, poorly written and unevenly acted TV show for the junk that it was. In fact the whole “grifter”line was what the corporate damage control PR team and its sycophantic base used to disregard legitimate criticism. These people didn’t criticize Andor in the same way, in spite of a very diverse cast with an openly gay couple. Nope, they liked Andor because it was well written and tried to maximize its look in spite of limitations.

I think the critics who like to think they are "auteur" or better than him don't really understand why he is doing so ridiculously well, they just see angry drunk scottish man complaining about wokeness and are befuddled why he is essentially 'winning'. The thing is that he is not auteur and he knows it, he is the average working class guy who likes popcorn media and wants better popcorn media, that's it, he is that perspective, that's why he is connecting with the general public.

Avatar 1 was fine, but ultimately did nothing except tell a very simple story that had a lot of missed potential to do some good worldbuilding. Way of Water just leaned further into that but told an absolutely shit story that also added worst worldbuilding elements than the first.

the problem is that it insists on continuity with the rest of star wars and that just cant be rationalized, if you have the original trilogy contiguous with the sequel trilogy well that's not three bad movies it's six. If the sequels were almost enough to kill star wars the rest of the content they've pumped out on top of it completely supplants it, Star Wars isn't about getting your imagination going anymore, it's really about a formulaic nostalgia checkbox on top of mediocre uncharismatic modern storytelling
