In case you've ever wondered, when you ask "should I rewind" to us, your audience, I'm always vigorously nodding "yes, of course"! Sure do love watching your facial expressions to the older tunes. They are priceless. When my Mom (then 76) was having a surgery approx. 12 years ago, they couldn't put her out completely and had to do a local anesthesia. She remained awake during the surgery and one of the nurses apologized to her beforehand that the surgeon liked to listen to Bob Seger tunes while performing surgery. My Mom just laughed in delight and said "make sure he cranks it up then". Old Time Rock And Roll was definitely a favourite of hers and my Dad's. Both have passed on now but I can still see them dancing the jive to this song. Good memories.

Saw Bob in 1980. His sax player on this is Alto Reed (R.I.P.). Very talented sax player. I forget which song it was, but when it came time for Alto's solo he was all the way up in the rafters of the building and the spotlights found him and he rocked out a solo from 100 feet up. Great show. Great band.

The song was recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Sheffield, Alabama. Studio musicians were used, probably including the sax player. Bob liked the demo done there for OldTime Rock and Roll. He tried to do it with his band (Silver Bullet Band), did not like the sound, so he just used the Muscle Shoals demo track. Interesting story about the guitar player- he was a kid passing through town with his parents and they stopped to visit the studio. He caught the owners at a slow time and asked if he could bring his guitar in and play. They let him play along with this track, and his guitar is what remained on the record. When it became a hit, he returned and tried to get a job at the studio but was turned down.
