My shadow ace was leaking and I kinda had the idea that it might be o-rings and be able to slide it like that so I ran a search and your video poped up on Google. To my surprise your video was exactly what I needed to do. Great video!! Made what I thought to be a headache, a 20 minute job. One thing I couldnt hook old o-rings cause the were like rocks, not pliable. I ended up using an exact knife to cut them in half then I was able to get them off. Thanks for the video, made the headache go away :-)

Thank you, Dennis for posting this video! I bought an 01 Honda A.C.E deluxe about a year ago and noticed the crossover leaking. @dwcoffey10 жыл бұрын
Dan Mccluggage Hi Dan, I hope it goes well for you. I think the 1100 ACE is put together in that area the same way as the 750. Some folks have been able to refill the radiator through the neck without removing the tank, but I think it is a tight squeeze. Maybe you can just loosen the tank mounts and get enough clearance without having to remove it completely.
@danmccluggage539110 жыл бұрын
Dennis Coffey Got the parts in today . It was real tight on the 1100, I got an 11" needle nose pliers for the job. It was so tight that I couldn't turn them sideways. But with a lot of trying ,the job got done. I Drained the tank 3gal. ,then lift it up in front so I could get to the Rad. cap on the top right side. About 3 or 4 cups to top it off,put her back together and ran it till the fan kicked on. No problems!! Cost me about 30 bucks. Thanks for the help.
@dwcoffey10 жыл бұрын
Dan Mccluggage Thanks for your comments and added info on the 1100, Dan! Glad it worked out for you. I was lucky since I didn't have to fill mine up from the radiator. I know it's not a huge deal to loosen the gas tank, but you know how it goes, there are always a hundred other projects waiting on us to fix 'em! Thanks again!

Hey Dwayne and Dennis. 1998 Shadow ACE 1100. 20k miles. I have this and the leaking oil around the guide pin (5 hour job). For this job, I had to grind down an old pair of 11-inch needle-nose pliers so they'd fit between the cooling fins and also use a long screw driver to maneuver the tube forwards and backwards. Thanks for the tips and the video!

Thanks Dennis your post help me a lot. I fixed it already no need long nose pliers. Yes sir! Thanks for watching Bill and I hope it helped you get it worked out. Before I figured this out, I just knew I was going to have to take the top end apart. :)

Komgrit Ruangrit I hope you got yours repaired and I'm glad to hear my video helped you. I've heard from other youtubers that you'll need a long set of needle-nose pliers to repair the 1100 Hondas.

Hi do i have to empty the coolant before i do this job. Thank great video
@dwcoffey4 ай бұрын
No, you'll get a little coolant leakage when you pull the crossover tube out, but it usually isn't much. No need to drain your coolant. Thanks for watching!

I have a 2002 Honda Shadow 750 ACE VT750CDA and have the exact same issue with the solutions you've dimenstrated and did just fine. However where is the Coolant drain bolt located?
@dwcoffey3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, Fawkes! Some of these Ace models are a bit different. If yours is like mine, the drain bolt is at the bottom of the water pump....should be a 10mm bolt. Be careful to follow the manual's torques specs as overtightening will strip the threads when reinstalling the bolt. Also, remove or loosen the radiator cap when draining. If you don't, you'll get a vacuum and the coolant won't drain well. When refilling, you'll need to burp the system to get the air out.

hey thnx for the crossover tube trick it was easy to do.. I got another problem tho with me 750 shadow ace. My front cylinder is blowing white smoke just when starting off after I stop every time. But doesn't do it when riding got any clue about this? Was thinking carbs need to be sync?
@dwcoffey9 жыл бұрын
+Will Smith Thanks for the comment and I'm glad the video helped you with the crossover tube leak. It'd be hard to diagnose your smoke problem without being able to smell the exhaust, etc, but usually white smoke means oil is burning in the cylinder. That's usually not good news because it usually means oil is leaking into the cylinder through a valve seal or piston ring. If it's only showing smoke at first, the leak is probably small.

Thanks Dennis good job. Very informative especially the floss. Question: did you or have you heard of "lubing" the O-rings, prior, for a better seal & easy slide in?
@dwcoffey7 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, thanks for watching. I did not lube my o-rings before installing them, but it wouldn't hurt a thing to dip them in anti-freeze prior to installing. It would probably make sliding that tube in a bit easier.

Thanks for watching and for your comments! I bought my O-rings online at www.hondapartsplus.com
@ShaDowMo5es6 жыл бұрын
I tried ordering the O-rings on that site but I guess I ordered the wrong ones. Did you have any luck finding them and if so could you let me know the part number?
@luisnavarrete45396 жыл бұрын
Hi Dennis, i like to thank you about this vid.. I have a VT750cd ACE 2001, the clip and the o ring are the same like your.. i have a huge leak in that same area.. but i think the oring was gone because the tube are moving down there.. could be the oring and clips right?
@dwcoffey6 жыл бұрын
Hi Luis, thanks for watching! Yes, if the tube is loose, sounds like you may be missing an o-ring and/or a clip. The clips are visible without moving anything, so you should be able to tell fairly easily. Hopefully the tube is scratched or galled so bad that an o-ring won't seal.

great tip - cost me just a few dollars. And the dental floss tip is brilliant! Just one thing, after replacing the two gaskets, and adding the coolant I took it for a ride. It was quite cool (about 7 Celsius) and after a few minutes the engine temperature light went on, then off after around 5 minutes. I've never seen that light go on before. Is this expected?
@dwcoffey10 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric, thanks for your comment! I did not experience that with my bike. After you've run the bike a bit, I'd check the coolant level in the reservoir and see if it is low. The only other thing I can think of is to top off the radiator....I've never done it, but I think there is a radiator cap on the top of the radiator. I suppose the coolant could be low in the radiator but still show some in the reservoir...not sure about that, but it might be worth checking. I'd like to know what you figure out about it.

cool of ypu to post that. thats almost identical to how my friend at Honda does it on repairs except he uses fishing twine and i just did that repair to my 03 with 11,000 miles. Ive got a couple bikes and only ride it once in a while. bought it mint with 690 miles for 1500 in 09. Remember if its a shaft its not a real bike. keep chains alive!!!! Ride VINTAGE

I have the exact same bike...can you tell me what size wrench I need to remove the oil pan plug to do oil change? Also, what size socket do I need to change the spark plugs?
@dwcoffey4 жыл бұрын
Yes sir, as I show in the video, the oil drain plug is 17mm. I use the spark plug wrench in the toolkit, so not sure what size it is, but I believe it is a standard Honda size of 18mm.
