Miss Anglophilia

Күн бұрын

It's Stir-up Sunday! On this day Brits and anglophiles get all christmassy and prepare the classic British Christmas Pudding for the upcoming festive season. Watch me making my version.
Please visit my website www.missanglophilia.com for more inspiration connected to my "favourite island"!

FAQ:
What's "mixed spice"? / Was ist "mixed spice"?
This typical spice mixture consists of ground cloves, ginger, allspice, coriander, cinnamon, aniseed and nutmeg. I used a box that contained all of these spices, but you can buy "mixed spice" as a ready-made mixture, too.
Where are you from?
I am from Bavaria, hence my accent. :)
Why Miss Anglophilia?
At the age of ten, I had my first encounter with the English language at school. My teacher never tired of telling us inspirational stories about culture “on the island”. And that was it - I fell in love with it all! So Miss Anglophilia is me and it has been for many years.
Is this just about England?
As for me, it all started with England which we were taught a lot about at school. I was lucky enough to live in England for a little while during my university years. There, I got to know many lovely people - not only English, but also Scottish, Welsh and Irish. So for me, “anglophilia” doesn’t stop at the English borders.
What does "Servus" mean?
It's a Bavarian word used to greet people that you know and like. :)
While every care has been taken with these recipes and methods, keep in mind that I am not a professional chef. I can’t accept any responsibility for errors, omissions or health issues.

I'll be honest, I've always been a bit suspicious of fruitcake and Christmas pudding. But it did look delicious with with all those fruits and nuts!

I didn't realize that Christmas pudding was so much work. No wonder they are so expensive! As always your presentation looks worthy of a 3 Michelin Star restaurant. Love how the flame strobes around the pudding.

I'm not one to complain about cooking or baking, but yes, this one really IS a lot of work (but so worth it). Thank you for the three stars you awarded me, this makes me smile! :) The flames were wonderful, I agree!

Looks delicious and mixed in the correct type of bowl, I approve ! Sorry you couldn't find the beef suet in the shops. It makes a difference and prepares you for a Christmas afternoon in the arms of Morpheus. BTW.. yes, store in a cool & dry place until Xmas 2021. You may be surprised how they improve over time. Happy eating !

I'm a little late to the party here, but just watched your pud recipe. Sound like it'd taste delicious, just the look didn't seem quite right... A traditional Christmas pud is very dark, some almost black. I'm guessing here, but i think it may've been the sugar. I see you used brown sugar. Traditionally you'd use a muscovado sugar. Being more unrefined it retains a lot more molasses. I think this may well make the pud darker as it cooks. Just an observation :)

Thank you for watching the video! :) I am sure you are right concerning the sugar. Sometimes I just can't get the "right" ingredients. It was the same with the "fat" that is used for the pudding, I had to replace it with someting else. But: The pudding was still delicious! :)
@jfergs.3302

@@MissAnglophilia Aye, I'm sure it must be tricky sometimes, getting the exact ingredients you need. I heard that about the fat, and wondered if it was the same for the sugar. It was just, as someone who's ate probably more than their fair share of Christmas pud's, the colour just jumped out at me. In every other respect though it was spot on, and I'm sure it did taste delicious. And here's something else, if you've not had it. Custard with your pud instead of brandy butter. BB is classic, very traditional, but can be a little heavy, and rich, imho. Custard is another classic accompaniment nowadays. It's lovely and creamy, and not as dense, or rich. If you ever fancy a change, you may wish to give it a try, see what you think :)
