Hey Man. I just watched your video again because it is time for me to get my brakes assembled. Your video is the best rear brake video that I found on youtube. I made the mistake of NOT taking a pic of where the springs went before I disassembled my drakes. I was in too much of a hurry to get the rear axle sandblasted and painted. Now, I don't know where anything goes. You saved me a lot of headaches. Thanks for sharing. 🍁👍👍

Thank you. I had to take the star wheel to one extreme to make sure I was turning it the right direction because the drum was stuck on. When I did take it to the extreme the wheel/drum wouldn't turn because the shoes had expanded. Then I knew to go the other way. Even with that I still had use a piece of tubing to catch the lip of the drum and a full size sledge. Didn't use much of a swing on the sledge, but the mass of the sledge head seemed to make the difference in impact. Also, I had place wood against the tire and use the same sledge to get the wheels off. It is 6/2020 and the car is a 1999 Sonoma (S10), so the parts have had a while to mate.

great video...I could never get the spring pliers to work, but watching you, I have a different aspect on how to use them. Plus, I liked the screwdriver part pushing on the adjusting tab to make it easier to loosen the drum pads. thanks!!!

On the parking break strut is there a specific way of putting it on I see a flat side n then and curve side what side is the right way of putting it in facing the dust plate?

I installed all new brakes and hardware on my axle. I have the adjuster screws tightened all the way in, and the shoes still rub the drums. It get to a point where I can feel the heat from the rear brakes about 6" away from the rear wheels. What could be the cause? Thanks

Why did GM go back to drum brakes in the rear? My '99 S10 has rear disc's. So much easier to work with. Good video.

Ok. Your drum came right off! Good for you! Now, to the real world. Mine are being a bitck" and not coming off! Parking brake is off, drum turns freely, there are no ridges on the shoes to hold the drum on and it's the tightness to the axle shaft to the drum holding on tight ( I'm changing the shoes " before it becomes a problem), now what would you do before you put heat to the drums and burn out seals? just sayin

What if the shoe spring that goes over the pin are different sizes? I bought a kit and I have 2 blue springs I have no clue where they go. The original springs on both sides look all the same size but what I got I'm only able to do 1 side

In the new kits hold down springs are color coded and different sizes. The larger green "conical" spring goes on the front "primary" shoe and the blue spring "shorter regular size" goes on the rear "secondary" shoe that has the parking brake lever. Also as in the video the primary shoe is the one with less brake lining, the rear or secondary shoe has more lining.

If you have never replaced brakes before just keep in mind the people who make these videos have been doing it for years. There are little things that can throw everything off. Getting the springs on is a major shore. Those brake pliers were worthless. I watched several videos yet I wish I would have had a pro do it. One video claimed it was easy. It's not.
