I think you did great man. Idc what anybody says about it. Yeah you were nervous, but when Vaush gets a lot of bad faith criticism, and trying to make a point while having it received in good faith by both chat and Vaush can't be easy, especially live. lol, "I come in peace, please don't shoot the messenger, there's a whole lot of you, and I'm not in my element". Congratulations on intellectually demolishing Voosh at neck break speeds, a true warrior and a scholar. lol, Hope I can hear y'all talk again sometime man.

I think that's because Vaush tends to be pretty aggressive when people come in with contentions. He's gotten a lot better about this over time, and he's way more agreeable when the criticism comes with a way to improve his rhetoric, but I can see why STV would be nervous about that. Vaush's reputation works against him, and the best thing he can do for it is to continue the path he's been on

@BlueTyphoon2017
@BlueTyphoon2017 2 жыл бұрын
@@beebs4283 Ironically I think he should do it more often, because there are sometimes where I do believe he’s wrong about some things. It’s usually nothing big and it’s more so a small thing, but, I think this isn’t just a problem with Vaush, it’s a problem with the culture around debate bros, and even just the internet in general a lot of times. The problem is that, usually, audiences think that if you get one thing wrong, correct a mistake later, or concede a point, that therefore everything you say should be thrown out the window. My idea is, you should concede or correct your mistakes more, because you admit that you’re not a perfect person, and that you do make mistakes, and to me? That’s an ultra giga chad move, because your admitting that you make mistakes, and correct them, or acknowledge when someone makes a good point about something, and you can build bridges/ good friendships off of that.

Sometimes I question Vaush’s comments regarding blacks, but then I consider cultural differences. I’m older, i grew up with no mother or father and moved around my whole life sometimes in poverty. I didn’t grow up white in Beverly Hills and become a millionaire in my 20s. As a black kid who’s watched Vaush for almost 2 years now, I feel like Vaush kind of can down play the validity of the black perspective. He’s basically said being black has virtually no extra intellectual capital in relation to race issues. That being black doesn’t ‘mean’ you have a good argument. He’s highlighted this very much, without ever that I can remember highlighting the fact that having dealt with racism 24/7 your whole life could be very very beneficial in analyzing the depth and the many aspects racism has on the world.

Yeah, it’s definitely a nuanced issue. Like if you’re going to listen to Candace Owens just because she’s black, that’s pretty dumb. But at the same time, if it’s someone like Cornell West then the fact that he’s black definitely augments his analysis of issues relating to race.

ngl, this is how my adhd presents when I'm trying to make a point that matters to me; because I have to translate my thoughts from abstract concepts into language as I say them I also have to consider carefully what translation to go with to best make my point. but, at the same time, sometimes I can lose track of my own initial point in the maze of convolution and clarification, which is a real pain I'm really grateful vaush didn't offer up any word or phrase suggestions to this guy because I know that immediately muddies the waters when I'm in this sort of state.

this dude is attributing rising violence in philly that is also rising in major cities all across the country to policy enacted by a mayor that had already lowered violent and property crime before 2020. he is actually suggesting that "progressive policy" was what sent crime skyrocketing in 2020, which could not be further from the truth. something very important happened in 2020... can you guess what? yeah, the pandemic increased the violent crime, especially murders, of every major city significantly. philly's crime has been on a sharp downturn since around 2010, and it was still dropping in the months leading up to covid. of course, as all economic stressors do, it damaged the job market, access to social services, stock market, and very often employers had to cut pay to save their profits. this had an earth-shattering effect on impoverished neighborhoods, to an extent that people in middle-class neighborhoods just cant really understand, as the great recession did in 2008. i grew up during the recession in a poor and crime-ridden city in the poorest and most crime-ridden neighborhood, so i understand where theyre coming from, but theyre wrong, and his seeming lack an understanding of crimes ebbs and flows depending on the socioeconomic state of the country make that apparent, otherwise they wouldnt have made that misattribution. the cause of the rapid uptick in crime in philly isnt a mayor, because -- as i stated -- crime went *down* under his leadership up until the pandemic, but is the pandemic itself and americas inability to take care of the people who need it most, leading to more so than ever in the 21st century crime being the only way people can survive, and the crime is just as vicious and competitive as it was in the crack epidemic. however, we dont blame individual, small-scale politicians for that, do we?

There are homeless people everywhere now due to the housing bubble, and the riots did a number on us as well. It’s a shame, because I love my city, and I hate to see it falling apart like this from incompetent leadership to the issues all of us are facing.

I think that the thing about Vaush being kinda antagonistic to black people is very applicable to how he talks about saint andrewism, I think he's overly antagonistic to them unfairly. Calling them a black nationalist and putting them together with people like pf and all that.
@JokerDoom
@JokerDoom 2 жыл бұрын
To be fair, black nationalism/superiority is a popular idea in the broader black community. I’ll have debates with my friends, some of whom are black, and a weird pattern tends to emerge. The white people I debate are sometimes racially insensitive but they often don’t have ill intentions, they’re just ignorant and they try to be the best they can. Not all of them, I’ve fought with outright racists too of course. But broadly, white people tend to be well meaning and try to change when they learn how their behavior is bad. For a lot of black people I debate on the other hand, when you get them going, I find they actually harbor hatred toward white people as a whole. I’m called “one of the good ones”, or they suggest I’m the only white person that deserves to be alive, and that’s really disheartening and a bit racist. It happens in more than half of the debates I have with my black friends. Some have even gone so far as to call me black as if that’s a compliment. It’s like they’re saying I can’t be white since I’m not racist. Now, I’m not going to directly defend Vaush here. I think he’s been irresponsible with how he uses his platform when it comes to certain aspects of race relations and dealing specifically with racism within the black community. This is a really sensitive topic and you can’t make any assumptions until you’ve seen certain behaviors for yourself. Even so, after seeing racist behavior, it’s easy to dismiss entire people, especially content creators, simply because they’re racist or bigoted. Especially because that’s what we do with white content creators who are racist - we dismiss them wholesale. Unfortunately when it comes to non-white creators, they’ve had entirely different experiences and you can’t throw the baby out with the bathwater in the same way you can with white content creators who harbor racial hatred. That’s the point where I think Vaush really fails at. I watch some black content creators who are racist because they make a lot of salient points (even about racism) despite being severely bigoted in their own ways and occasionally going off the rails into a rant about how white people should be put in camps or something.

I think the guest was correct in his analysis of Vaush when it comes to black people. Personally I felt Vaush engaged with the Tucker/Rittenhouse interview in a very empathetic manner which I was a bit surprised by because I think Vaush has the ability to view most people/situations from several different perspectives that ultimately play a major role in his own beliefs about said person or situation. With Rittenhouse I felt like he had an overly empathetic disposition which doesn’t mean he thought well of Rittenhouse instead it felt he related to Rittenhouse in an unconscious way. This empathic disposition is not present in Vaushes criticism of black people like Ibram X Kendi which I think he should continue to criticize when he feels it’s necessary. A solution in my mind that makes sense is for Vaush to recognize that he may want to consciously sprinkle in positive videos of different black people to show a more well rounded perspective of black people. I am sure Vaush positively mentioned India Walton the socialist candidate who got robbed of the mayor seat in Buffalo, NY. Maybe doing a deep dive video about her would have been appropriate
