Personally as a primarily cole fan, peripheral drake fan and only like 3 of Kendrick's projects I won't claim to understand them all at the same level. I will say, cole has a genuine admiration for both of them, he's also a competitor to them. It creates a conflict within him which was reflected well in middle child, in that song he even mentions he's not interested in beef for superficial reasons. Fast forward he has an opportunity to battle and he does what was in my opinion a rushed song, not the worst but if he waited maybe he wouldn't sound so conflicted in it, he later retracts it and reaffirms his admiration for Kendrick. This track he does similarly for drake. I think he's not as detached as both of them in his analysis of both their behavior and so he comes of as ignorant at times but the truth might just be that he thinks it's not worth his friendships to jump into the confrontation. Since I like Cole I emphasize more easily but I don't think there's any malice in his actions. I can't say the same for Kendrick towards drake and vice versa. Drake might harbor some resentment towards cole while Kendrick might view cole as a confused third party which is belittling in its own way. ​@@MBALI_LOVE_THANDO

Told my cousin this the other day after the song drop. 1 Great bars and wordplay. Rapping at a higher level than most. 2. Dislike the sample. I’m tired of him using Hov samples. 3.
