This stroke is so peaceful. Ears under the water, eyes just watching the ceiling, very efficient use of energy. It feels almost meditative, especially when you're gliding.

Is this stroke still good exercise? I almost feel like I'm cheating because of how easy and pleasant it is
@piggiesgosqueal8066Күн бұрын
@@HeatyFrogit is. But you have to do it for a longer period of time. If I do this 2 to 4 hours a day, I lose one to 2 pounds of fat per day. That’s it I actually do a freestyle sort of kick rather than the one shown in this video

Hey, this is almost exactly my favourite swimming style that I just came up with on my own! (I just move my arms slightly different, but that might be because I have very large hands and is slightly hypermobile so I can move my arms in more extreme angles) I've been wondering if it had a name because it seems so useful to me.

I learnt how to swim miself. Living on the sea shore all of my life, this Elementary Backstroke came natural to me. When I went for the first time at an indoor gym onlympic size swimming pool, everyone did the competition styles and I was faster than all of them, and a lot more relaxed. Basically I swim the natural most eficient way everyone else looks like they strugle to swim. It feels strange....

As a person with one damaged knee and another surgeried knee, I wonder about the safety of frog-kicks and eggbeater kicks. I flutter kick when I do the elementary backstroke, but I also think I tend to bring my arms out of the water. I will try this relaxed version...I get nervous about the sensation of my legs pulling me down, though.

Hello. Can I use a different kick aside from frog kick in the elementary backstroke?
@jillboyd70838 ай бұрын
It wouldn’t be called the elementary backstroke if it had a different kick; the whip kick belongs to this swimming stroke. Any other kick would make it less effective
@metalneandertal266 ай бұрын
I use this type of stroke, but with both arms up above the water like a butterfly stroke. It's much faster, but still conserves energy.
@bigbadlust44035 ай бұрын
That's the old style backstroke technique. I still see older 80+ and 90+ people using that stroke.

@@JamesLinenX Even just knowing how to do this stroke you can save your own life. This stroke can help towards learning the front crawl. competitive backstroke and breast stroke. Never say never. You can learn how to be more than a one stroke swimmer! Finding a good swim instructor to work with in person can help also. Check out your local ymca, they teach babies to adults (even elderly) how to be comfortable in the water, water safety, and the strokes. And be sure to keep watching great swim videos like this one!

US navy teaches their seaman this stroke as opposed to more “Olympic style” competitive back stroke. This elementary back is supposed to save and conserve energy.

I'm good at this when I use the flutter kick but if I try the whip kick smh.. I go underwater then I pop back up, under then back up which leads to me getting water up my nose and severe migraine. I cant seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
@1houndgal5 жыл бұрын
A couple of things could be causing you to do this. I would start by learning to float on your back in position like the starfish position. Take notice what happens when you bend your head forward towards your feet, when you look up to the ceiling and sky, and when you sink the back of your head deeper into the water. Look for a neutral position with your face looking up to the ceiling/sky. Head position is one thing to pay attention to. Then there is where/what your feet are at/doing. Too deep makes it hard to float face up and keep you feet nearer to the surface of the water without going out of the water. Ending up in sinking and slowing your progress forward. Be sure to not to bend your knees too much. Watch the video and others out there, noting where the swimmers head, feet, arms are at at different times in the stroke. Good luck!. Hope this is helpful.
@jillboyd70838 ай бұрын
You’re probably bringing your knees too high, which would cause a ‘sitting position’ and make your hips drop down into the water, which would then pull your neck down as well. The shoulders/hip should remain on the same level, while the feet go down. Practice while laying on your stomach; it’s only the feet that go down into the water. The knees are still level with the hips/shoulders/head
@jillboyd70838 ай бұрын
So, while laying on your stomach, bring feet up (would be a 90 degree angle at the knees,) put your feet out and snap together. Your hips don’t move or go down

well ... I do that in another way . I just spread my stretched legs and bring them together by force . the arm movement is the same . like an octopus . it works for me .
@swimlifepro87377 жыл бұрын
The reason the Elementary Backstroke is the most efficient stroke there is in swimming is because it uses all arms and legs simultaneously to drive your body forwards. When you keep your legs straight and move them out, and then back in quickly, you're actually slightly making your body go in the opposite direction you intend to go. If your legs are straight as they go outwards, you're slightly pushing water towards your head, which will carry you in the direction your feet are pointing, which is not the goal of the stroke. The Modified Breaststroke Kick maximizes the amount of water pushed backwards in order to carry you in the intended direction.
