Yes when you're 25 and single. When you go over 30, are married and have kids, its not that great anymore, missing so many weekends, never being home, missing your kids birthdays and football games etc. It becomes a compromise between qualifying as a pilot or spending time with your family... And its great travelling to places in the beginning but eventually you just want home to your family. Many pilots quit when they get older and go working as an engineer or something like that because of this.

Tireless nights of studying on layovers as cabin crew, having to study during my breaks on long haul flights. I always returned to this video for motivation. I am happy to share that I have finally achieved this goal I set out to achieve. A Commercial Pilots License with Multi Engine Instrument Rating. I can't thank you enough. The journey has just begun. Nothing is impossible!! Absolutely everything is Possible with determination, sacrifice and consistency. Thank you so much once again!!

I gave myself a week watching the video. I was a commercial pilot in the corporate arena and stayed away from applying for the airlines due to all the "away" time. I was fortunate enough to fly for hire and able to get home same day most of the time. To each his own.

@@sngwrter49 I want to be a pilot but want to stay local to where I live. I was thinking regionals? Or flying private jets would be cool as well.
@sngwrter496 жыл бұрын
@@mattolmstead6150 I would say to anyone who is interested in aviation and wants to fly for a living is to become aware of the realities of the endeavor first, such as 1) Obtaining the licenses and ratings necessary for professional flying is expensive, 2) Getting there takes time. No one cares about your newly obtained pilot certificates, employers want experience. Getting that experience usually means becoming an instructor and taking any kind of flying job you can get to build your flight time and the pay during this period of building your flight experience is often very minimal. 3) When you get there be prepared to work odd hours, being away from home and flying bad weather at times. Your passengers will typically have no idea what IFR, wind shear, convection or airframe icing mean. They just want to get to their destination and expect you to get them there just as if you're driving a car. 4) Always remember critical errors can be fatal and there is that possibility something could happen beyond your control. That inherent risk is always an aspect you assume for choosing a career that is a non 9 to 5, non-desk oriented occupational activity allowing you to fulfill your dreams of traversing the brilliant blue and sometimes gray and cloudy skies unlocking the mysteries of professional flying and traveling to interesting places. As a retired corporate pilot my recollection is having to get to the airport early in the morning before everyone else to get the aircraft ready, flying my passengers to their location and having to sit around for hours (often huge downtime. A smartphone would have been a great asset in those days) waiting on the passengers to return for same day flights and often having to go AFTER the weather for the return flight starts going to crap while you're thinking "why couldn't you guys have been ready an hour ago when the weather was fine?" I' ve talked with many other pro pilots and the consensus is usually that flying stopped being "fun" a long time ago. Yet we still must fly. So, that's my point for anyone thinking they might want to fly professionally. Just "wanting" to be a pilot is not enough. It's something you feel you MUST do. And, I suppose that holds true for many other abstract and possibly tenuous career choices. Yet, above all that, I can't think of anything more challenging and thrilling at the same time than professional aviation.

I remember the first time I watched this video; it was probably mid 2015, and I was on my lunch break at my retail job when I stumbled across this. I had no flight time and I was trying to figure out which training avenue to take after almost a lifetime of thinking about flying. 3 years later, I'm watching this again while awaiting my flight instructor checkride and so much closer to flying these jets than I ever thought possible. Been an amazing and immensely rewarding journey so far, and it's fun to come back to this video to remind myself why I started this whole thing in the first place. Thanks for making this, definitely one of the coolest and most inspiring aviation videos on YT. For those of you that want to do this, get out there and start your training! Yes it's expensive, but I can tell you that there are all kinds of ways to finance the journey; just takes a little bit of research. It will be the best decision you make! Especially for those of you that have been bitten by the aviation bug; I promise that the only way to scratch that itch will be to get out and fly :)

You didn't show the "pathway" to life as pilot though. You know Instructing in trainers for hours on end. The sitting on the ramp engines running for two an half hours awaiting a "flow time" to an airport, 35 mins away. (LAS-LAX) Getting to the layover hotel at exactly the same time as ever restaurant in the local area closes and eating the week old Powerbar from your backpack for dinner. But you know what, it's still worth it. (Some days!)

It's certainly not fun everyday, I can find hundreds of drawbacks to the job. However I make videos because I love the job, not because I hate it. To be fair, most of the points I don't like are related to the airline I fly for, not the job itself. The things you mention are North America specific. There's no such thing as instructing for hours on end in Europe, most people start on heavy turboprops and medium jets straight out of school here (the few who are lucky enough to get a job), we almost never taxi for more than 15min, money is usually decent even in the low cost airlines, moving up the ladder is a lot faster than in the US (upgrade, base transfer, ...) and we spend most nights home with family. I have way more time off than I had with my previous non-flying jobs. Drawbacks? Unhealthy working hours, fatigue, not fun to share the flightdeck with someone you don't get along with for up to 12h, things often don't go as planned (take-off slots, tech and pax issues, delays, weather, ...), time pressure, responsibilities, constantly tested (sim rides, line checks, medical, Safa checks, ...), cost of training and licenses, lack of jobs (over 80% of fully qualified European pilots do NOT get a job), ... Still love the job, but that's just me.

@Philos79111 жыл бұрын
Conex Xenon Most airlines only require a bachelors degree in any subject. You could get a bachelors degree in basket weeving and be qualified by most airlines standards. What they care about is #1: flight experience #2: ratings and #3: how much of a sheep you are. If have enough experience, have the right ratings, and are willing to completely give up all your personal freedoms and bow down to them in every way possible, then they'll hire you.
@predatortheme11 жыл бұрын
Well in germany, you need "Abitur" to the "Pilot-Education" the Abitur is equal to 12 years of school on the "gymnasium" path... I m not on that path and will only get a "Fachhochschulreife" Which means you can only study engineering on any college, but not study on a University(medicine, biologie,law, psychology and so on) Only things they offer on a engineering college.... And having Abitur when applying for the Pilot-Education is the requirement.. Also you will have to go throught entry tests first.... So if i would get a bachelors-degree... I would automaticly get the Abitur-degree and Could apply for the Pilot-Education..... depends if i would even get invited and pass the entry tests....

You get paid to travel the world! I can't believe more students would rather become doctors than this, but everyone is entitled to their choices. I'm on my way to getting a B.S in aeronautics with a focus on commercial aviation, can't wait to get my license and eventually be flying these babies!

Aumed Ramadhan I also think that, as a Pilot you get paid to: travel the world, to have the best office in the world, not scheduled timetables of work, you don't have Homework(simulators could be (studying)), and the best is that you feel free, no like a rock in the ground, but better, with this job you can attract girls very easy 😉

More people outside of aviation need to see this, if this doesn't make your adrenaline pump, goosebumps raised, smile from ear to ear, I don't know what will. My other favorite video is "sky fighters" the song is "into the fire". On the thumbnail of the video, there are two fighter jets. That one is also just as invigorating.

Hi, I'm a 17 year old ALevel student. My whole life I've wanted to be a pilot, to fly for any airline is the greatest dream of mine, but I have one small problem...... Don't you need a lot of money to become an airline pilot? My budget is tiny, my family is working class and try hard to save but we just cannot afford the extortionate prices to train for an airline pilot... Is there ANY way I can achieve not only my goal but my dream? Can anybody tell me of any scholarships, sponsorships or anything to achieve a pilot with a small budget! Please ~Thomas

Thomas Bowdler nothing is impossible ...try to find a sponsor or if ur home is near to an urban core...try to get a loan...or start saving today.study hard.get a job that somewhat pays well...use savings and loan amt to fund pilot training....keep searching for ways..don't give up...cheers mate
@byronhenry38777 жыл бұрын
Just take out a loan, that's what I'm doing. My family isn't filthy stinking Donald Trump rich and you'll notice when you get into the industry, nobody else is either. You will need to pay it back and live on a tight budget for a few years while making a lower salary but if you can suck it up and make some sacrifices you'll make it. Besides, who cares if you make a low salary in the beginning? You get paid to FLY. That's pretty rad in and of itself. It's your dream isn't it? It sure as shit beats sitting in an office on a computer or flipping burgers for a living. Keep motivated, think about how great it's going to be in 10 or 15 years when you're flying a 787 making over 250k a year. You can do it, I can do it, anybody can do it. You just gotta have that "I am a fucking boss and this whole planet is my playground" mentality. Best of luck to you.

Find an Airline that has a Cadet pilot programme, the airline will cover you for all the training expenses and once the training is done you must work for them for a few years as a contract and after that you can be promoted to a captain and so on
@byronhenry38777 жыл бұрын
YRBOY TEN Obviously some things will be different, but for the most part, it's the same thing. It's still just a plane no matter how you break it down. The airline will train you on its procedures and you'll likely earn a type ratings for their specific plane. It's not like you just get hired from flying F-16s and then immediately tossed into a Boeing 737 on your first day at work and then get fired for not knowing how it works.
