In my reading , practice and study withforced Hans and Sita Frenkel back in the early 70s, the practice was never to forced in anyway. In this day and age in the US its become an athletic endeavor which is not the original intention of Yoga. Although I have heard a ruff translation of Hatha as force but then it is also representative of the sun and the the moon. We have had Bikram yoga here where the room is well over 100 degrees and that is an extreme as well which they call hot yoga. The warning is that pranayama can be mishandled and cause harm which again is akin to playing with a poisonous snake.
@yogalap2 жыл бұрын
In this restless culture in which it is all about "faster, more efficient and stronger", many tend to pollute the yoga practice with that as well. It's OK though, many people start with those practices and realize on their journey it is not the way to a deeper state of inner peace and Self-realization and will deepen their practice with the more traditional practices and meditation. May we all be blessed with peace and wisdom!
@petertarsio71682 жыл бұрын
@@yogalap what has happened to Yoga in the US over the past 50 years since I began practicing I have seen the commercialization and marketing of so called Yoga brands that run the the gamut of abomination. What I can say is that if people were to enter into this practice with more study in the philosophy and realize that what Yoga is about can't be marketed. Its all about making money so it seems and Americans are usually gullible enough to be pulled in by people who claim they are Yogis based on dubious claims. The real yogis were renunciates and its origins were based in esoteric practices that was kept secret. Now we have a distillation and annexation of a practice that has been transformed through acculturation and most of it is an adulterated of the real teaching. 😳

I discovered your channel today. I watched a few videos and then when I came to this video, I actually sat with you and practiced the naadi shodhane pranayama. Thank you sir. Your pace was perfect for me as a beginner. Should I engage my ab muscles when I do naadi shodane? When I try to breathe deeply, I have the urge to contract my abs - intuitively I know I should not do it, but I donno how to stop it. Should I just practice more until I'm able to breathe more deeply for a longer time? :)
@yogalap Жыл бұрын
Dear Pushpa, thank you for your comment. Just keep doing this practice with patience and kindness. Don't judge yourself, but just remind yourself "it is all good" "It is all God". With every breath soften a little bit more. Every breath is another opportunity to harmonize and balance. Overtime things will start to loosen up. Keep flowing. I will be there in your practice :) Peace, love and blessings, Michaēl 🙏
@youtubelibrary_10 Жыл бұрын
@@yogalap OKay, I will take it slowly and let my body loosen up on its own with consistent practice. I like this video because it is a slow pace and I'm able to do it with you. After writing this comment I watched another video on your channel which helped me.... you had told us to just pause and take a little break whenever I want to and then resume. That helped a lot, and I noticed that after I took a break, I was relaxed and I was able to breathe more freely. Thank you Michael. :)

My dear friend, I have a problem with nose septum which I discovered originally during my scuba diving med examination, it makes isolated breathing through left nostril a bit strained. Is there anything that might allow me to alleviate this? 🙏❤️
@dankelly77123 жыл бұрын
Get James Nestor’s book “Breath”. The nose is a “use it or lose it” organ. The more you use it, the more your problem will alleviate. However, if it is an extreme deviated septum, it is true you may need surgery

Michael I tend to put my thumb and fingers just inside my nostrils to block of the air rather than placing my thumb an fingers over the outside of my nose.....I find this easier as my nostrils don’t stick together if you can understand what I mean. I described this to my friend who had no idea what I was telling him through messenger. So I had to show him face to face what I meant.....is this acceptable.??
@yogalap6 жыл бұрын
Hi Adrian, I see what you mean and I think this makes sense. Some people might say that by doing it this way you miss then the point of `using` the tips of the fingers to make light pressure point actions on the fingertips and the nostrils. I think this is not important and far fetched. What is important is the ratio of the breathing and kind of awareness and loose concentration you put into the practice, so feel for yourself how you can do it in the best way for you ;)
@chomikson3 жыл бұрын
Great session and explanation Michael! One question is disturbing me. As I'm left-handed, I don't know which hand should I use for nadi shodhana. Some people say that it must be the right hand, other that it can be dominant hand. I don't know if there is any difference, what are your thoughts? This question may be really trivial but I'm really curious about it. Thanks
@yogalap3 жыл бұрын
In some traditions they will say different things for hygienic reason. Others will say you cannot do it with the right hand because of the placement of the heart etc.. But in my opinion, you can do it with the left hand as well. In the end, it's all in the mind and I truly believe that it's the same wether doing it with the right of left hand in this case. Peace and blessings.

If one was only to do Nadi Shodhana & Kapalbhati, which one should be done first?
@yogalap4 жыл бұрын
Dear Daniel, Always do the more dynamic/ stronger breathing practices first to open up and stimulate. After that the slower/ subtler breathing practices to balance and harmonize and bring the awareness deeper within. So in this case first Kapalbhati to activate and stimulate and very important to cleanse the breathing system, especially the nose through which you will focus the awareness in Nadi Shodhana practice (on a subtler level you will cleanse the "forehead & 3rd eye center" . The name Kapal-bhati Pranayama means " Shining-Skull" ) After that, you want to do more and more gentle and slow Nadi Shodhana to harmonize and balance and bring the awareness deeper within. I wish you peace and good energy, Michaël
