We review the Triumph Speed Twin 1200cc modern classic Roadster, with the Bonneville engine.
This motorcycle is built for cornering; it has a short wheelbase and trail and a steep rake. What is it like to ride? We give you all the info!
We look at the handling, speed, comfort, ergonomics, acceleration, brakes, suspension wheels, design, engine, exhaust and more!
As with all our reviews, we put ourselves in the shoes of the type of person who would buy this motorbike. Is it right for YOU? Watch to find out. Will it be OK if your'e tall? If you're short, can you ride it? Is it heavy? Is it too much?
We were filming in gale force winds AGAIN so we apologise for the sound quality, although we have filtered most of it out.
We also go over some of the stats like fuel economy, range and what it has, such as modes for Road, Rain and Sport.

Got to test ride that bike on its introduction. Still think about it today. If I didn't already own a '19 Triumph Speed Triple RS, I'd own that for certain. Great bike and Triumph is sure on top of its game. Also, great channel. You are at the top of bike review productions in this space. Oddly, we've been getting the same excessive wind this season on Cape Cod USA.

Great review as always, good stuff. As a side note: I love it when tall people complain bikes are too small and then short people complain bikes are too big, when there is literally a bike for every sized rider on the market, just get one that suits your size and riding style. If you are looking for this style of bike then a Ducati Scrambler Desert sled, Husqvarna Norden 901/701 Svartpilen, might suit you. But now that you mention it, most modern-retro bikes are Small-ish, mine has a relatively tall seat height but short wheelbase (svartpilen 401) so yeah, maybe a longer fork and shocks might do the trick? opinions? I´m listening:)

Yep, it's a nice bike. I've had one now for over a year. In fact, it's my first motorcycle purchased and ridden (it was maybe a little bit too much for a first bike). Being 57 years old, the looks of the modern classic appealed to me. It is addictive, and it just urges you on to push yourself and learn to ride better and faster. Have made a number of modifications including a better suspension. The original suspension was lacking. And it does help to re tune with a custom mapp that is accessible with tune ecu and obd link, which now gives it a lot more punch in the mid range and gets it up in higher rpms. Like I said, once you get in this game you learn quickly what makes you and the bike better. Was it worth it? For me yes. It is exactly what I was looking for. And for where I ride, in the rural hilly curvy area of Wisconsin it feels made for these roads. Have fun and respect the power and the need for speed.

Even though you are very tall, your knee (according to Dave Moss) is perfectly placed next to the tank in order to ride this bike as it was intended to be ridden. The most successful MotoGP and WorldSBK racers are tall 6'0" to 6'2" and their bikes are even more cramped especially over a 27 lap race. However for street riding most bikes don't fit every rider ergonomically as much as riders would like the bike to fit them. As such numerous manufacturers offer different seat options and there are aftermarket accessory companies who specialise in seat options and even foot-peg options to lower or raise, move forward or aft. If you like a bike, make it fit you and you'll love it for a long time to come.

I'm 6'3" tall, about 3 foot at the crank. I'm 60 years old. I drive a 2020 Tiger 1200 as a result. I can't ride long in the cruiser or crotch rocket positions. Adventure bikes are the goldilocks posture for me. I added handlebar risers (up and back an inch) and a Puig tall windscreen, and I'm good to go. And with 110 ft lbs of torks and 140 HP, and the up/down auto shift, it's surprisingly fast, with torque down low in gobs. And the 2022s got lighter.

Appreciate the honest review especially since the bike is small for you. I'm 6'7 so it should fit me goot. I think the XE suits your stature better. @@MrDarcy-OlMan I did see that one. It seemed better for your height when you were on the bike. Surprised that it was still cramped for you. I would have expected it to be much more comfortable. A shame. I cannot disagree about bikes being built for specific heights. I for one like the Adventure bikes, but they are too tall for me. Unfortunately, you would probably need a custom built bike to suit your needs. Of course, the price tag for something like that would be something only ballers could afford. After viewing your video on the XE, I promptly stopped looking at the XE model as it seemed way too tall for my stature. Keep up the excellent reviews along with backdrops of the English scenery. JM

When are they going to come out with a S or R version ;) I love the Bonneville line and would gladly have a T100 or 120 but I've always found I never got along with the ergonomics. The Speed Twin however is another variant of perfect and or confident inspiring ergonomics. Kind of like the SV650. I wonder if its just an issue of raising the handlebars or what have you. Anywho, thank you for the great review! Becoming a bigger fan as time goes on. Cheers!

Perception is a strange thing. I'm 5'6'' and to me, every bike seems to be for the taller guys anyway. But I've always managed, mostly, to ride tall bikes, just adapt to each. Manufacturers, please stop making the seat higher each time you do a revamp. Thanks
@MrDarcy-OlMan

It's definitely easier for shorter people to get a good fit, than plus 6 foot people, because you can lower the suspension and seat etc, and the bike would be more aesthetically balanced. If a taller person raises the seat height, the bike is still tiny underneath

They are beautiful great bikes that are interesting to ride. Unfortunately I decided to trade mine for a Tiger 900 GT Pro as i have two-up touring needs. It was a great bike to own though, albeit for a short time. Held it’s price for the trade though. Agree legs are a bit tucked up (I’m 5’11”). We would have to make frequent stops if we toured. I had a T120 before that so the ST felt lighter and friskier.

I'm surprised it doesn't pick up so well from very low revs in a high gear given it's a 1200. It looks good, but I thought it was physically bigger. I must pop into Chiang Rai Triumph later and sit on one. Strictly window shopping, mind, but it's a bike I could see myself on. Number plates mean members of the public can report people to the police for criminal behaviour / bad driving etc. Someone u-turned on me in London once causing me to hit them on my R1100GS. He then drove off with me on the floor. Fortunately a car driver had witnessed the accident and contacted the police with the driver's registration number.

#MrDarcy&Theol'ManAnother fine video indeed. And yes Triumph has/is doing an excellent job in the design of their "Bonneville" Line of Bikes. At 5'11" I found the Triumph Speed Twin somewhat small as well but a fun bike still indeed. In reference to the changing geography in your country from wild to farm land here in the USA (primarily along the east and west coasts) sadly what used to be farmland is now primarily vast subdivisions of single family homes/Shopping Malls/BusinessDistricts. And in turn vast areas of my country have become havens for Natural Disasters (Tornados, Hurricanes, Earth quakes, ect ... due to an ever expanding/growing population living where common sense told them not to not that long ago). I mean in the mid 1960's the population was around 150 million here in the USA now it is around 350 million. Oh well ... Later
