Hey Robert, If burning fat while building lean muscle is what you want then your post workout nutrition needs to be 2-1 carbs to protein, only after you complete a HIIT type workout or training session. The body has depleted it's glycogen stores and turns to FAT for energy (fat burning) during the workout and in order for your body to continue to burn fat after the session (has to be high intensity) then you need to replenish the glyo stores so the body does not turn to muscle for energy - Funk

@bordmanjr - Great question. I had some very close family introduce me to Youth Juice years ago and I did not pick up the business opportunity part but love the product. Last year before my Muay Thai fight in Thailand, another family member who has worked with pro atheletes in other sports introduced me to GLX and once again, although I did not pick up on the business opp, I love the product, as it helped me prepare for my fight...plus I am a little older so, if you read up on it you will see

@djnv11 Hey DJ Great question. I am 5'11" 185lbs sub 8% body fat 95% of the time. There is no need to bulk up if you want to get to 180lbs. Just eat a bit more, eat clean and do my Spartacus workouts. You can run if you want, but the cardio and metabolic resistance training you get from a Spartacus Workout will do the job for you. You will burn fat up to 36 hours after each workout. Eat clean, protein and carbs to ensure you are building lean muscle - Funk

@ACLogikel Yeah youre so right. I dont Know why so many people preech low carb to get ripped. You can eat carbs, a lot of them, as long as their the right carbs and as you said its much healthier for you. However, you have to eat the right carbs.....the only carbs i eat are whole oats, Brown Rice, Sweet Potatoes, TONS and i mean Tons of veggies and Milk, only after my workout

Funk what is your thought on lentils? I have been cooking them for a while in hot water to add to some dishes like canned fish for protein etc BUT when i saw their nutritional facts when they are raw, i was blown away! Ive heard you can just let them sit in water for a few hours -24 hours and they retain a lot of their nutrition. Id love to see a months trial of eating lentils with other foods! Great work dude. Living with a girl & eating out together is killing my 'ripped' plan though hahha..

I train consistently and cycle intensity and focus diet, but as soon as I eat ANY carbs, other than non-starchy vegetables, Definition disappears. I tried many diets over thirty years. 5-6 meals a day (Controlled macronutrients), and I'm gaining weight with my waist expanding and fat increasing, along with always being hungry, feeling more fatigued and strength decreasing. The only points in my life where I was actually seeing some definition in my abs and chest was near starvation.

Great info I know way too many girls who think carbs are the enemy and no matter how hard they train they shouldn't eat carbs, I can't convince them but maybe you can! I always have a little less protein before training and a protein isolate directly after, am I missing out on something here?? -Phil

Appreciated, but this flies directly in the face of what Dr. Mauro DiPasquale says "If body recomposition is your goal, then carbs should be avoided for hours after exercise, as they interfere directly with growth hormone's affect of burning fat." He stated this on Super Human Radio Interview with Carl Lanore, also.

@rui27marne Hey Rui, yes definitely eating a lot of healthy fats will cause you to get fat. Beacause healthy fats are high in calories. Although they are essential for effective FAT LOSS, you have to monitor your intake because of the high calories - see Kilocalories/grams count below - Carbs 4 Kcal/g - Protein 4 Kcal/g - Fats 9 kcal/g - that is why they must monitor fat intake - Alcohol - 7kcal/g - DEFINITE NO NO, if you want to be ripped MMA athlete - Water 0kcal/g Funk

Hey Funk! You said "If you dont have at least one or the other you better get it" for carbs and protein. So, does that mean that it is ok to have a carb loaded meal without protein? For example, someone who trains around 90 minutes a day, is it good to have some pasta with only tomatoe sauce and maybe some cheese for meal 2 or 3?

there are so many different hypothesis' about what should be consumed immediately after workout. Mark Sisson from marksdailyapple states that your muscle glycogen has not been depleted if you have 45- 1 hour workout. I personally consume just protein and creatine postworkout and then add sweet potatoes for the carbs during my meals that day.

i train just about 3 hours a day with mma and weight training combined with sundays a rest day. isnt it healthy to have hearty whole grain carbs with every meal, minus right before bed? i usually eat about 30-40 grams of carbs with every meal at least for 4 out of my 6-7 meals

in my opinion, the cleaner you eat the better. also, if you are very active you need more energy = carbs, but keep up the work in the protein and in terms of fat, only a spoon of virgin olive oil and some almost would do ... but once again, nutrition varies between individuals, there's no one diet to follow....

Spinach and vegetables have minimal carbs in! The carbohydrates they do have in are also mostly NSP's (non starch polysaccharides) which the body can not digest...other referred to as 'fibre'. U are slightly misleading them to be a good source of carbohydrate. Add on more fruit as a non starchy source of carbs. The sugar content does not really matter as the G.I of fruit is so low, plus with all the training these carbs will not be stored, they will be used! Have some Vit C with ur spinach also!

if you have an office job it's not a problem, most have a fridge and a microwave so that way you can eat your meals. you can just prepare them at home and take them to work the next day. If you are a trucker or a driver it gets more challenging. but you have small fridges for cars as well. It's all about discipline and how much you want it.
