Some people just should not be cops. This girl is one of them. They need to realize it isn't just writing speeding tickets and responding to a cat stuck in a tree. Being a cop is not a joke or an easy thing to do.

@@CENTRALCHAOS21 So??? it doesn't matter if he's drunk or not, it's things cops will face. She was exhausted and the drunk guy never even put in 100% effort. If you cannot handle something like that, you really shouldn't be enforcing. With all respect to the girl, she tried, but she simply isn't in the right mindset and physical condition to do her job. She was also clearly in shock, and needed the most basic instructions after a situation like that

@Anonymous Agreed 100%. The thing about finding out you're not cut out to be a police officer, or anyone in law enforcement, is that you'll often find out due to a terrible consequence. For instance, she shot the mother. Completely missing the suspect. Could have ended a lot worse if she had died.

Exactly, I think she could've done it herself, had she nicely gave instructions and cuffed him, but she had to violently grab him. This mentally challenged guy is not the problem, it's police training and de-escalation techniques. But it always ends with boots to the head, or killing him. If she was good, she might have driven him back to the store, returned or paid for what he took. Ultimately that is the solution, and the store owner is made whole again, of course he can be banned from the store, but all is well.

As I’m reading him his Miranda rights. As officers are on the way I’d just start asking him about that day when he was at the store and mention little small pieces about the situation so that I don’t stir up anything and NEVER accuse the person. Once my partner got there then we can start to begin to place him under arrest without any harm. However if he starts to put up a fight gentle continue talking to him try to calm the situation down I might have even asked mom to stand there while I handcuffed him just to make him feel better. It appeared he had a mental ailment and when he said he was sexually abused that would have even been more of a red flag to me to just be gentle with him

No, because the reason she drew in the first place was because she lost control. After shooting his mother (and he acknowledged this), and completely overpowering her, as Officer 401 says, she's lucky he didn't just shoot her himself. Officer coming in doesn't know anything other than "shots fire" and his partner's on the floor. Once he's under control, you get the ambulance there. You can't call the ambulance into potential fire.

Partly true. However, has to handcuff him because she's making an arrest. She has to put hands on him to accomplish this. She errored in not waiting for backup. Also, she tried to play tough cop When the man was obviously mentally disturbed and physically stronger than her. A trained officer, has to know their surroundings and their weaknesses. It was clear to me that she wasn't going to be able to physically handcuff him. Classic wait for back up here. Problem is its often seen as A sign of weakness. Many agencies require 2 person patrols for this reason.

The female officer was taking the whole thing personally. That was the biggest problem I think. She wanted to control the suspect because she was a police officer. And when he refused she unwisely tried to handle the situation herself instead of waiting for backup. It should have been clear to her that she should not try to man-handle a suspect twice her size and obviously mentally disturbed. Also, the mother DEFINITELY needs to be charged with interfering with a police officer. I hope she was. Thank God her partner showed up just in time. About the only thing she did right was call for backup early in the situation. She had the authority to do what she was trying to do, but not the ability. She confused the two.

If a male officer walked in there and was respectful and maybe even tussled with the guy and cuffed him, at least he demonstrated control over the situation. If that female officer walked into my home and I saw her escalating an unstable situation, I would not be able to live with myself if I did not protect my family.
