Another study is getting headlines claiming that eating red meat causes higher TMAO levels which increase the risk for heart disease. But as we have seen many times before, these data are incomplete and unreliable. Once you look deeper into the study, you see why you can't trust the headlines. Plus, we include tips so you can better understand how to evaluate these studies.

We need to stop saying that these studies that don’t account for healthy user bias are “weak evidence.” They are not evidence at all, and can be completely dismissed immediately upon finding out they didn’t follow basic scientific principles of correcting for confounders.

I remember filling out a long food study in the 90's. I remember because I tried really hard to fill it out as accurately as possible and I was living in my first apartment. Why would people assume that we would continue to eat the same way throughout our entire lives? I've changed NUMEROUS times for extended periods. Every. Diet. In.the. books. Only being in ketosis has allowed me to easily lose weight, taken all my joint pain, and had all my blood levels normalize. I eat a very high red meat diet. Almost no plants. I feel my best when I eat only beef and pork. Prayers for everyone who reads this to become healthy and stay healthy.

Great video! The researchers also ignore the established connection between heart disease and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors like Atrazine. When AChE is inhibited, there's a build-up of acetylcholine, so the body makes anti-bodies against acetylcholine receptors. This is very bad for heart health, since acetylcholine is a "major regulator" of the heart. Atrazine also breaks down phosphatidylcholine, and that choline is made into TMAO by gut bacteria (perhaps it can't be made into acetylcholine since there's already a build-up of it). Interestingly, E. coli is used for soil remediation of Atrazine, plus E. coli feeds on TMAO! So, exposure to Atrazine would also increase E. coli in the gut, and E. coli has been linked to heart disease. BTW, Stanley Hazen holds many patents on TMAO testing and drugs to lower it, but the only publicly-available information doesn't list any conflicts of interest.

I definitely don't believe it. It's always the same bad relative risk ratios. I mean, if your RR isn't above 2, why do we even consider it at all. I always make this analogy: You want to make some kool-aid. So you add a tablespoon of Kool-Aid mix and 64oz of water. You taste it, you can barely taste anything at all. So, in order to make it sweeter, you add a tablespoon more of the mix, but then add another 64oz of water. You taste it, and nothing has changed. Of course it hasn't, you are using the exact same ratio the second time around. These studies that come up with the same 1.1 or 1.2 RR are doing just that. Adding more weak data doesn't magically make it stronger data, it's just more weak data.

Our medical researchers need to learn to look at the big picture to assess what things to study. Medical history shows that prior to the 20th century there was virtually no cardiovascular disease, no diabetes, no metabolic syndrome, extremely little cancer, etc. So, when assessing likely causes for any of those conditions, the things that will NOT be causal are the things people were eating prior to the 20th century. Red meat and animal fats were heavily consumed during those times, so it's virtually impossible for them to be causal of our modern chronic illnesses. Researchers need to stop wasting time and effort trying to find out if those things are problematic. They are not. Period. The things that DO need to be researched are foods that have been added to the food supply during the time those conditions became common. Vegetable/seed oils, preservatives, high amounts of simple carbs, etc.

There is a world of difference between the type of person who eats meat in the form of sausage, chicken nuggets, bacon, fried meats and the person who eats grass fed beef several times a week. When these studies look at meat eaters they lump everyone in together. Overall when I brought grass fed beef and elk back into my diet, I was more satisfied. I ate less carbs and sugar. I've lost weight. My iron is in the normal range. My blood sugar is stable from eating less carbs and sugar and getting more fats. I have way less brain fog and more energy.

10 years of Paleo lowish carb (25% cal, 50% fat) , no sugar, min processed foods, no junk, etc, got me high blood pressure 140/90, chest pain and some plaque, 170 cm/68 kgs, TC over 220 but TG below 100. Yes it takes time, I was feeling well for a long time, body is resilient. 18 months on WFPBSOS and BP is down to 105/70. Weight down to 59 kgs, you lose weight massively if you limit fat (seeds, nuts), HbA1c from 5,8 to 5,2, TC below 170, but TG went up to 160. One thing is certain - BP can go down.

Easily dismissed when one looks at the anthropological record. We've been eating this stuff for many thousands of generations. Hundreds of thousands of years. If it was terrible for us we wouldn't be here. You can look at the record of cultures that are primarily carnivorous. They don't have the 'diseases of civilization' like diabetes, tooth rot and obesity. You can also look at societies that adopted a western diet and very quickly began suffering same. You can look at disease in ancient Egypt, where the diet was mainly agrarian. Those people SUFFERED. You can look at our anatomy. We are hunters. Predators. We have 4 organs designed to process fat. The organ we had to process fiber...well that was the appendix. We don't require fiber...at all. It's useless to us. We don't require nutritional carbs...at all. The liver can make all the carbs our brain needs, which isn't much. The evidence before our eyes is absolutely overwhelming. We are meat eaters.

I have read this paper in Nature: The microbial gbu gene cluster links cardiovascular disease risk associated with red meat consumption to microbiota L-carnitine catabolism (Buffa, Romano et al. - 2021). I didn't understand it entirely, but it seems like you have a significant health risk, if you happen to have a very special set of gut bacteria. I'd be grateful, if you could have a look.

The authors really took their time and it took a lot of work? Come on man, it’s garbage to fit their biases and they’re putting it out there as if it’s top notch scientific research and it’s not. Infuriating.

The human body is complex. Although we know a lot about the body and how is works, there is more we do not know. For a long time the wine industry funded studies that said wine is good for the heart. Now there is convincing evidence that alcohol is a carcinogen. The way the human body works is mysterious. The way business works is not mysterious. See who's funding which study or which channel. Who will make money off you? Our first cousins the chimps eat very little red meat and fill up on fruits and vegetables. I have no advice to give anyone except caveat emptor.

Key question; who funded and/or lobbied for this study? General Mills, etal. What were the percentages (ratios) of Fat, Carbs, Proteins consumed on a daily basis? The other main question is how much $$$ did the taxpayers waste on such a specious study? 🤔

Red meat is red due to myoglobin and mitochondria, both contain bioavailable iron within the heme moiety. Based on the carnivore diet, red meat contains everything for life to exist. How many in the red meat group have that supersized fry or bag of chips everyday with that red meat?

My takeaway is that it is safe to eat red meat. Especially considering that the primary concern is to avoid sugar and sugar and sugar and sugar and sugar and sugar and a bunch of other things before getting to the meat.
