This was the very first movie I saw at the cinema, my dad fell asleep and after the credits he continued just snoring. The movie theater started filling up again with people for the next showing so my mom turned to me and said "you wanna watch it again?". No one said anything or told us to leave our seats. And that's the story of how I got to watch Masters of the Universe at 5 years old, twice in one night, and my dad got a 3-hour nap. Best night ever.

Not only that, but the costume he wore was custom made for him(designers had to spend hours handmaking the mask and costume to his measurements) and they even gave it to him as a gift after the shoot. In between costume fittings and filming, the company paid for him and his parents to go to Disneyland and Universal Studios in a Limousine which they could use at their leisure for the entire trip. He said he enjoyed the experience a lot because all the actors treated him well especially Dolph Lundgren, and would talk to him and his parents a lot. When he had to spend hours putting on the mask, the actor for Gwildor would sit with him and talk about understanding how annoying putting on the make-up is. Afterwards, Matel bought an entire block of seats at his local theater for the release of the film so that he could invite his friends and family. Beyond that, a Matel employee asked him which MOTU figures he didn't have and they sent all of it to him including ones that weren't released yet. They actually went all out for this kid.

The way I see it, this movie had two major flaws: 1. It was set on present-day Earth. 2. It was produced by Cannon Films. And Skeletor himself greatly resembles Thulsa Doom as he appeared in Robert E. Howard's stories and in early drafts of the Conan movie script. Mattel was in negotiations at one point to make toys based on the Conan movie, but decided not to go forward due to it being an R rated movie. However, Mattel did have a hooded, skull-faced pirate character in an earlier toyline prior to their involvement with Conan, so it's not 100% certain that they stole the idea. But the combination of both a barbarian who's enemy is a sorcerer with a skull head (again, their earlier skull head guy was a pirate, not a sorcerer) is way too similar to be a coincidence. They were also at one point developing a toyline with Jack Kirby for his "Fourth World" DC comics, which also were never produced. Masters of the Universe seems to be a combination of that early Conan script and the Jack Kirby stuff, which is how they ended up with a world with both barbarians and technology. The MOTU character Zodac, who is depicted flying around in a floating chair, is very similar to a Jack Kirby New Gods character who also flies around in a chair in the same manner.

Skeletor didn't know there was more than one, that's why Evil-lynn shouts, "The little worm has another key!" and they wanted the prototype destroyed because Skeletors a megalomaniac and wants all the power.
