There is no one else like him! What an original. I used to go out to the "Agoura Valley Inn" in the 90's, which was a very small bar on the outskirts of LA and hear him play (it was never advertised) and it was always amazing. I heard him several times with different singers and his rhythm playing also was stellar, and inventive, which I had not heard before in other settings. I'll never forget those great times....

Great to see a rare public performance of this Knopfler tune by Albert. Anyone notice that he subconsciously reaches for a whammy bar that isn't there a couple of times? He's using the B Bender on this of course, sans whammy, but he's so used to using a whammy these days I guess its just habit. Albert's the man!

Nice job, Casey. We caught an Albert Lee gig here in San Diego - at Anthology a few weeks ago. We knew it was gonna be something special when we noticed the "audience" was comprised of quite a few musicians from other bands, other genres, other towns. Albert Lee was brilliant (as was the dude who found Albert's lost car keys). Albert Lee is the real deal - you can feel his genuine love of music when he plays - and ya can't help but smile when he smiles. Thanks for posting.

Those early Dire Straits albums contain many fine songs and great playing from Knopfler .

Mark Knopler not even playing in this performance so why is he even mentioned?
@TheHumbuckerboy6 ай бұрын
@@Romeo10 It's Knopfler's song ...he wrote 'Setting Me Up' and he thoroughly deserves a mention due to that fact.

This is the first MK song done by someone else that I consider worth listening to. The former DS bandmates mouth the words without conveying any of the truth/punch/all too often, pain that Mark's lyrics invariably have. I don't know who this guy is, but he does Mark's brilliant work justice.

I agree the original is amazing but if you don't know who Albert Lee is then I urge you to check him out on KZbin. He is one of the greatest pickers in the industry right up there with Danny Gatton. Mark would be really flattered that he'd do one of his tunes.

Albert did a snazzy performance of "Setting Me Up" as Eric Clapton's co-guitarist on the Japan concert album titled "Just One Night".

Albert Lee did a great version of this with Eric Clapton on the "Just one night" Live at the Budokan album. But sadly it was before the days of uTube.

Albert's version on his album is a better and fairer comparison, for all those on about Mark's original! For me, it would have been a better single. Either way, Albert's solo playing is unmatched! How he manages to play so many notes and still play interesting solos is incredible!

Mark Knopler not even playing on this song so why is he in the title?

No its entirely a MK composition from debut album . Enuff said

No Tamberardino, fine a guitarist Albert Lee is, he did not write this song, it is a wholly Mark Knopfler composition. It's about his first wife by the way.

No I think knopfler when with straits only ever co-wrote one song with Sting 'Money for Nothing' and he used carousel Waltz on intro to tunnel of love. Think everything else was all his. Don't think he ever did any covers either which is surprising with his early love of country picking type music.

@@tomwest1014He didn't really co write Money for Nothing with Sting. It is just that he had the intro melody etc "I want my MTV" which is the same melody as "Don't stand so close to me". He wanted to use the melody and Sting happened to be at Montserrat at the time. So Knopfler show Sting the song. Sting told Knopfler he has a number one there and Knopfler invited Sting to sing along with the song. Sting got a co writing credit for this.
