Shadow Stalkers seem to have a very strong pack instinct; this makes them prime targets for Advanced Domestication. We likely wouldn't even need any gene-modding or tech. If any tech was needed, it would've been some kind of reward hormone injection system. With Earth mammals, this would primarily include oxytocin and dopamine in addition to the usual food-and-patience approach we usually use - which can, unfortunately, sometimes take generations. We never did fully domesticated cats, bears or hyenas.

Cats are still largely feral since they chose to live with us because we don't allow big predators near our settlements but can't eliminate parts like rabbits and rats all that well even with modern tech. So true domestication didn't really start on cats till about 100 years ago, because before that point cats would generally supply half or more of their food themselves.

Fur Farm Foxes are domesticated with scientific methods since 50 60 years or so. It started under the sovjets to study the process of dog domestication.

Actually there would be some gene-modding, not much, but genetic scientists in Russia have already isolated the genes that lead to domestication, turns out Foxes have them turned off, so the scientist are working to turn them on. if the Shadow stalkers are anything like Dogs, well it wouldn't be hard to alter them.

@@taitano12 Oh they didn't edit them at all, they breed them for the gene. IMO it was a cruel experiment, and it took them years, but they basically breed them for domestication to isolate the gene for domestication. But thanks to it, we know know what the gene is, and the things it does to an animal.

true, i mean just look up some deep rock galactic comics on steeve. steeve is the name of any large flesh eating bug that you tame mid mission. and many of those comics come with onion ninjas. the last one i remember seeing was the song "you are my sunshine" with pics of it mid game, before the last 2 lines where it shows the drill ( and your characters leaving ) and the bug curling up and just sitting there as if to wait for you to return. but, you never find a pre-tamed steeve in missions.

So a little confusion here. I can see humans bringing dogs, cats, horses, cows and various other animals to a newly colonized world not only for companionship but also as food sources.
