No, it's not "šteker" in standard Croatian. Outlet is "utičnica". Everyone will understand you if you say "šteker", but if your daughter writes it in her school essay, she'd better have a good explanation why she made that "stylistic choice" or her teacher will strike it out as incorrect.

"Pożar" is a very Pan-Slavic word, so is used also in Polish, the same as very international loanwords as "obsesja" or "propaganda", but "ormar" it's Polish "szafa", and "šteker" it's Polish "wtyczka" (like feminine version of "utikač" :)

In Slovak: "Požiar" is a very Pan-Slavic word, so is used also in Slovak (we also use "vatra" as a greater flame but used and controlled by people), the same as very international loanwords as "obsesia" or "propaganda", but "ormar" it's Slovak "šatník", and "šteker" it's Slovak "zástrčka" - male, opposite "zásuvka" - female, but many Slovaks do not differentiate them, me too sometime.

@@GoestaBerling. Word "watra" is not used in "Official" Polish, but is known and understandable, because is used also in "Goralish" Polish, as name for special type of bonfire ("ognisko" in "Official" Polish). "Vatra" is another Pan-Slavic word, even if probably derived from Wallachian :)

Amator in Latin means lover of something or someone. Amare - to love. So ljubitelj is the right word. Bravo Slovena!

In Bulgarian, amatоr and ljubitel are synonymous.

In Polish is used "amator" or "miłośnik", but "lubiciel" also is compatible with rules of Polish word formation :)

Macedonian does the same thing as Croatian we call both the outlet and the thing you stick into the outlet a shteker. It's a German word but this is pretty funny German doesn't call both of them shteker. It calls the outlet a Steckdose and the thing you stick into it a Stecker

Slovenians also use the word štekar for power outlet, amongst many other German slang words like zastopiš, zastopim, rikvec, špohert, špegelj etc etc etc

@@madness8556 we say rikverc too for reverse haha Ziher is another slang term that comes from german And then there's a ton of words connected to mechanics and cars like šraf, šrafciger, šoferšajbna and so on A lot of people say tašna for bag and tračari for to gossip There's a lot more but none of them are popping into my head right now

@La When I read they are almost the same, but they sound quite different, for me Serbian is more understandable, maybe because Serbia is closer geographically to Bulgaria. Anyway, whether they are one language or not they sound different.

@@svetoslavstanchev9977 It's basically the same language, maybe you met Serbians who just happened to be more articulate when speaking. Anyway, in Croatia they are speaking with more of a "melody" same in Bosnia, Serbians speak more "flat" in most of the parts, especially in parts closer to Bulgaria, south and southeast.

@@milosjanic1038 I know that. I'm just saying that pronunciation can make a language sound different, not that languages are different. The pronunciation in Serbian is more understandable to me. Otherwise you are right, the northwestern dialects in Bulgaria also have a Serbian sound.

@@svetoslavstanchev9977 majority of modern Croats and alsmost all Serbs soeak so called Shtokavian dialect, but Croatia has a 2 more dialects Kajkavian which has the same root as Slovenian language, Chakavian spoken by a 10% of Croats, Zagreb dialect is nowadays Shtokavian, but it has a lot of influences from surrounding Kajkavian. There is also Torlak dialect spoken in southeastern Serbia, it is kind of transition to Bulgarian language

@La I don't consider január, február, marec, ... the foreign words, they are simply Latin ones. Latin is not foreign language but dead one and is used by most of nations and especially by the science.

@La We have Slovakian national fairy tale "On twelve little months" where occur the months "sečeň", "lipeň".Our brothers Czechs have beautiful Savic names of the months, e.g. april is "duben" - time when the oaks are in blossom, may is "květen" - time when everything is in flower, october is "říjen" - time when the stags are in rut, november is "listopad" - time when the leaves fall down of the trees, ...

Bulgarian: Stena = wall Strana = side Selected Person Izbran.. (chosen) Izbraniyat Podbran... (selected/picked) Izmet is a Turkish word for SHIT (garbage)... SerboCroatian uses Smeche from Izmet. We say "SMETishte" for a "Landfill" or another word is Bunishte We can also say "izmet" for junk/garbage... but this word is becoming irrelevant. Bokluk and Otpadak is what we call garbage/junk.

Izmet is also used in Serbian, it is kind of posh word for govno.
