Thanks, guys! I’m very interested in Slavic etymology so this is my part of words appeared in the Bulgarian-Russian conversation with some explanations of its origin. 1. Поле (Pole) - field Ограда (Ograda) - fence (Old Church Slavonic word) Деревья (Derevya) - trees Линия (Liniya) - Line Гряда (Gryada). The word has several meanings. 1. A series of small mountains, a chain of hills or a chain of pitfalls as well as a number of similar objects in general. 2. A narrow strip of dug-up land in a garden. Сельское хозяйство (Sel’skoye hozyaystvo) - agriculture Куча (Kucha) - heap Проход (Prokhod) - passageway, a place through which you can pass through something. Лес - (L’es) - forest Полоса - (Polosa) - line, strip. Лесополоса (L’esopolosa) - forest belt, forest plantations in the form of rows of trees and shrubs, created among arable land, in pastures, gardens, along irrigation and shipping canals, railways and highways, along the edges of ravines etc. Forest belts are created to overcome the harmful effect of dry winds on crops, to prevent soil erosion and the growth of ravines as well as to protect railways and highways from snow and sand drifts. I looked on the internet and found the suitable term in Bulgarian which would be горски пояс. Yet, in Russian it isn’t a word we use or hear on everyday basis so I guess even for ordinary Russians, especially of Slovena’s age, it would be pretty challenging to recognize the word based solely on Toni’s description. At least for me the proper one did not come up to my mind until he actually said it. The word Пояс (Poyas) in modern Russian means a belt, or more precisely, a girdle. 2. Баня (Banya) - a steam bath with a wood stove. Ванная (комната) (Vannaya) - bathroom Cобирать (Sobirat’) - to collect, to gather Грязный (Gryazny) - dirty Высокий (Vysoki) - tall, high Продолговатый (Prodolgovaty) - long, oblong The proper translation of a Laundry basket in Russian will be Корзина для белья (Korzina dlya bel’ya). Таз (Taz) is a basin or a washbowl. But I understand why Tony used Таз because there is no such well-established practice in Russia to purposefully obtain a special container for dirty laundry while you have a washbowl in literally every household which is perfectly fit for such purpose. Still, some people do have a laundry basket but for example in my family we utilize Таз in this situation as well :) The Bulgarian phrase Кош за пране is interesting, because roots of these two words do exist in modern Russian. For example for a purse we say кошелёк (koshelyok). Also there used to be a profession прачка (prachka, laundress) who handwashes clothes or laundry for money. Since nowadays everyone has electricity and washing machines and do it by themselves, the need for such profession disappeared. Стиральная машина - (Stiral’naya mashina) - washing machine Техника (Tekhnika) - equipment, machines, mechanisms Внутри (vnutri) - inside 3. Глагол (Glagol) - verb (Old Church Slavonic word) Воздух (Vozdukh) - air (Old Church Slavonic word) Транспортное средство (transportnoye sredstvo) - vehicle Лететь (letet’) - to fly 4. Дума in Old Russian means thought. In modern language the State Duma is the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia. Слово (Slovo) - word. I guess Bulgarians used to have this word in regular vocabulary as well but today it sounds pretty archaic, am I right? Лежать (lezhat’) - to lie down Ложить или класть (lozhit’ or klast’) - to lay Вставать (vstavat’) - to stand up, but поставить (postavit’) - to put. These two verbs are obviously connected but not the same. Have no idea why Tony said so. Bulgarian verb правя in Russian means to rule (править, pravit’) .Adding the prefix ‘is-‘ we have the verb исправить (ispravit’) which means to fix. 5. Птица (Ptitsa) - bird (Old Church Slavonic word) Подспорье (podspor’e) - literally means foundation, but figuratively - help) Маленький (malen’ki) - little, small Хищник - (Hischnik) - predator, carnivorous animal. The word derives from the archaic verb хитити (hititi) - to steal. размер - (razmer) - size быстрый (bystry) - fast, but we also have the word борзый (borzy) and it has two meanings: 1) fast (little bit archaic more commonly used to refer to an animal’s quality to pick up speed quickly, for example борзый конь (fast horse), борзая собака (fast dog), борзый карась (fast crucian carp) 2) impudent (vernacular) охотиться (okhotit’sya) - to hunt жертва (Zhertva) - prey Орел (Oryol) - eagle Фазан (fazan) - bazant Серый (sery) - gray, but we have the word сивый (sivy) - silver-gray, tend to use it referring to horses coat color Цвет - (tsvet) - color Черный (chorny) - black точка (tochka) - dot Голубь (golub’) - pidgeon ястреб - (yastreb) - hawk Сокол -(sokol) -falcon Ключ (klyuch) - key Острый (ostry) - sharp, pointed

Пространство (prostranstvo) - space Пешеход (peshehod) - pedestrian from peshy - by feet and hodit’ - to walk Улица (Ulitsa) - street Bulgarian Хора came from the ancient greek χορός (choros) which means crowd From the same Greek word in Russian (arguably though) we have Хоровод, a folk dance which combine a circle dance and chorus singing Дорога (doroga) - road Сторона (storona) - side Тротуар (trotuar) - sidewalk, actually a borrowing from French пересечь (peresech) - to cross (the road, the line) 7. Дом (dom) - house стена (stena) - wall Врата (vrata) - doors - an ancient borrowing from Old Church Slavonic Двери (dveri) -doors спать (spat’) - to sleep есть (est’) - to eat смотреть - (smotret’) - to look, to watch, also we can use the verbs глядеть телевизор (televizor) - TV Гостиная (goostinaya) - hall Зал (Zal) - living-room комната (komnata) - room Стая (staya) - flock (of wolves, dogs etc.) 8. Парикмахерская - (parikmaherskaya) - hairdressing salon or sometimes barbershop (for this we used to have the word цирюльня) описывать (opisyvat’) - to describe совершать - (sovershat’) - to do, to commit ножницы (nozhnitsy) - scissors использовать - (ispolzovat’) - to use гребень (greben’) - is a large decorative comb. For normal one we use расческа (rascheska) Стричь (strich) - to cut косить (kosit) - mow down волосы (volosy) - hair коса (kosa) - is 1) a type of braided hairstyle: three sections of hair that are braided together from the crown of the head to the nape of the neck. 2) a scythe, an agricultural hand tool for mowing grass or gleaning crops. 9. Общественный транпорт (obschestvenny transport) - public transport Автобус (avtobus) - bus троллейбус (trolleybus) - trolleybus поезд (poezd) - train трамвай (tramvay) - tram такси (taksi) - taxi Люди (liudi) - people Перон, пассажирская или остановочная платформа (peron) - railway platform, a borrowing from French Остановка (ostanovka) - stop Станция (stanciya) - station, borrowing from French or Latin 10. Хватать (hvatat’) - to grab Держать (derzhat’) - to hold ручка (ruchka) - handle замок (zamok) - lock

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised at the first word, I don't think many young people in Bulgaria know it. Forrest belt is пояс (poyas) in Bulgarian, which means "sash" in English, and it's also used in the same sense here. Стрижа means to shear and it's usually used to in reference to the action of stripping sheep from their wool. As far as перон, it means ''railway platform", not a stop. :) Спирка is the universal word we use for all vehicles when making a stop somewhere and it's usually used interchangeably with the word for station (гара) regardless of the size.

Первое слово: Лесополоса в болгарском нет слово которые прямо соответствует. Самое близкое по смисла и значение ето Пояс /В равниные части Болгарии есть такие изкуствено созданные деревянные полоси, которые имеют преднозначение защищат поля от ветровая ерозия земли и снегом/

Да, только один раз видел больший идиотизм на подобных батлах, чем лесополоса. Когда одна болгарка загадала турецкое блюдо, которое они там кушают в Болгарии.

Словена, много е интересно , това което правиш, но моля те подготвяй се по-добре предварително. Често не знаеш думи на собствения си език. Говори по-бавно и най-вече не предъвквай думите. Старай се да ги отделяш една от друга. Успех!

@@yashirosan5666 For bulgarians it's easier to understand the formal complicated terms in russian than casual talk. Much easier in fact, since they're the same a lot of times. With the south slavic languages I can understand their casual talk a lot easier, but fail to understand some of their more formal and complicated words. When I've spoken to russian and use formal terms they too understand over 90% of what I say, once again, because it's literally the same words.

"Брава", I think, comes from "брать" (to take). Becouse in Russian we have simillar ward "браться" (to take/to touch)

Bulgarian is like a middle ground between Serbo-Croatian and Russian.

@Radical Bulgar Nobody talks about dialects and you contradict yourself. You say that no one will understand you in your dialect, but by the same logic some dialects share words with Serbian and Serbs will understand them more easily, for example some northwestern dialects. Аnd southwestern ones with Macedonian. Вut of course the language is different from Serbian and Russian, аs Serbian is different from Russian, Russian is different from Polish, Slovenian is different from Serbian and so on ...

Да именно корзина. Корзина по-болгарски - это "кошница", а "кош" это большую корзину.

Yes, you're right, we don't use infinitive, we use instead something called 'basic form of the verb' which is the form of a verb for first person, singular, present tense.

In the modern literary Bulgarian language there is no infinitive. The infinitive existed in the Old Bulgarian language, but today it has disappeared as a grammatical category.

@@bojanbojic9230 Тhe reason is simplification. The official version of our language has undergone many transformations for simplification. We spoke in a very different way 100-150 years ago, and quite differently 500- 1000 years ago.

I as Slovakian and Russian speaker also understood a handle, "kľučka" in Slovak. Russian "ručka" also makes a sense because we catch the handle with our hand, "ruka".

Actually, Slovena is not correct in this case. "Brava"(дверной замок) is called the mechanism that closes the door, and the handles are called "дръжкa"(дверная ручка) from the verb "държа" in Russian "держать".

I think our languages are fairly similar (when we exclude the grammar) and we managed to understand each other, however when it came to actually guessing the words we (moslty me) were a mess 😅 sorry I didn't know the forest belt and the birds 😅 I genuinely learned a lot and I had so much fun while filming the video! 💛

Don't worry, because "forest belt" in Polish literally means "leśny pas", which for Serbo-Croatian speakers sounds like "lešni pas" or "lesni pas" (probably as "carrion dog" or "light dog" or "loess dog" in Serbo-Croatian :)

@@Robertoslaw.Iksinski lesny pas je u direktnom prevodu "sumski pojas" :) Ali na srpskohrvatskom mi imamo recz/slowo "drvored" from Drva i red - row - trees in line/tress in a row :) For me understable lesny pas / lesni pojas , znam da je les = suma a pas = pojas :) ))))

Момичето е лъчезарено, усмихнато и с хубаво славянско име, но е с много много беден речник и липса на аналитично мислене, ако щете дори и липса на елементарна обща култура. Младите хора в България не са учили Руски език и е разбираемо, че не знае елементарни руски думи. Разбираемо е също, че не знае какво е горски пояс. Belt на английски не значи само колан, но и пояс. Очевидно никога не се е возила във влак и не знае, че влаковете спират на гари. Също и никога не се е качвала и на метро и не знае, че има метростанции. Остава въпроса какво друго е правила през всичките тези години освен че е нучила испански и английски. Съжалявам за този коментар, но нещата трябва да се казват с истинските им имена.

Bro, you forgot to mention that the Serbs mixed up quite well with the Ottoman Turks. The biggest evidence is the fact that the majority of the Serbs in Bosnia converted to Islam and mixed with the Turks which makes nowadays Bosnia the only “Slavic” Muslim country and that is the reason why Serbian contains so many Turkish words and is not quite a “Slavic language”.
