Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to be nothing short of a slam dunk for CD Projekt Red. What hasn't been said about the tumultuous launch of the game? That said, I've loved the game since it launched. It missed the mark in many ways, but I personally found myself adoring what was offered here. Now, in 2022, the game is in its most stable state so I returned to Night City once more to see how it holds up...

But at the end of the day Cyberpunk falls short where quite a few "open world" games fall short - this is a pretty good game with a linear main quest line but beyond that quest line there's not that much to immerse yourself in. You can't just chill and let your character "live" in Night City - NPC interactions are extremely thin, you can't even interact with 90% of the merchants like street vendors (nevermind that most NPCs are as interactive as NPCs in Grand Theft Auto). I think because CDPR created such a large and detailed world but left it so thin, shallow, and hollow, it makes the immersion gap between "let's just do the main quest" and "let's get lost in a truly 'open world' " all the more noticeable and disappointing.

@@RustCohle072 no, it's commonplace with games that exclusively rely on their story and setting and little else. CP77 is a massive open-world (supposed) rpg action game. I still don't get why people expected Cyberpunk to be this mega RPG-GTA hybrid. CD Projekt are known for Witcher, so naturally their game in a new setting will still be very Witcher-like. As in -- a lot of story, a lot of quests and hidden stuff, some RPG mechanics to spice up game play and some dialogue trees to go different direction within a story.

CP77 is just a story mission with rpg dreams sprinkled onto it. It's staggering, I did a playthrough on week 1 after its launch, and then again just now. And the difference really is = none. I could literally not find any improvement in the main pitfalls that the game suffered from on launch, except some graphics optimization and a few nice-to-have features here and there. But gameplay wise, the city still feels empty and doesn't invite you to really explore it or interact with it. Instead, it invites you to just sit down and admire it as a still image - at which it does shine. Few games have the visual impact of CP77, but once you step outside of the scripted story missions, you quickly realize how hollow that pretty world actually is. I think the one thing that could have saved this game, was if the game world itself was 4x smaller, so that they could focus on making high quality content at a lower quantity, because as it stands now, I barely even bother going around the city because there is hardly anything to do, no reason to immerse oneself in the character and "role play". Everything of value is pre-scripted. Everything that actually caters to rpg, is void of meaningful interaction and impact. First of all, no fps game of this manner should have bullet sponge mechanics and level gatekeeping. It literally makes no sense, and rips away any sense of immersion and obstructs the sense of disbelief. Your relations with people and the world around you should not be scripted, it should be fluid and affected by the actions you take over the course of your gameplay, so there are always consequences and rewards to everything you do. Things shouldn't be set-in-stone, immovable. You should be able to interact with everything that would normally be interactable, and there should be a meaningful sense to wanting to progress your own gameplay story, not just the written story mission itself. You as a player should WANT to level up, to get good items, to gain certain relations and allies, to go against your enemies. These should be YOUR choices, not because the game scripts it for you.

However, never gave anyone at cdprojekt red any abuse and i don intend to. So many gamers these days needs a punch in the mouth, to realise that there are other things more important in life. I love the game. Completed a playthrough at release and then again a few days ago. With the 1.5 patch, mods and an upgrade to 3080 Ti the experience felt a lot more fleshed out, even if it does feel like there's so much more potential there to tap into. I gave up waiting for a DLC to drop for my next play through, and I'm glad I gave it the chance. I still want that next patch and DLC. I will take as much of the city of dreams as I can get.

I replayed the mass effect trilogy right before my first playthough of patch 1.5, and it just did not do it for me at all. I definitely enjoyed my time, but as far as the storytelling went, things felt extremely flat and typical, and the world didn’t feel well realized. Playing mass effect right before really pointed out the flaws of cyber punk, I felt way more immersed on Omega in me2 than I did at any point in cyberpunk.

That makes no sense at all. I mean, if you were comparing RPG mechanics I could kinda understand, but to say "story telling felt flat and typical", when Mass Effect has literally one of the most typical stories (which it uses well for its purpose), sounds more like made-up nonsense to have a reason to dislike the game. Mass Effect is not bad in any means, it's a good game series, but it's literally a "one hero standing against a large enemy and their own government" storyline we've seen over and over. It rips it influences straight out of Star Wars.

Hey Matty love the vid Keep up the good work. I have to ask you something Have you noticed a drop in Cyberpunks Visual Quality? I Actually like Cyberpunk, but i am concerned. In recent patches it seems the visual quality has gone down, just try comparing 1.3 or earlier to 1.52. NOBODY has seemed to notice it but me. Even Pictures takeN with the in game Photo app look worse than before. I played Most of the game on Patch 1.06 on a 2080ti at 4k@120hz without DLSS i usually get around 50 to 60 fps with the quality setting i use and with DLSS quality setting i get 70-90 fps i thought i saw minor quality drops in some of the patches up to 1.3 but in the most recent patch 1.52 it looks BAD and i don't know if it is CDPR adding AMD's upscaling tech, or if it is a flaw in the code from optimizations making textures and or shaders malfunction but the game looks BAD now. in actually Gameplay with DLSS off i used to get a clean crisp image and all the surface looked like right, concrete looked like concrete metal looked like metal I would it was the BEST looking game EVER, Now there is ghosting, blurriness and Muddy textures and all the surfaces look pretty fake and it make me feel like i have something in my eyes or need glasses go back to 1.3 and the image is MUCH clearer. There used to be ghosting on Dlss and disabling it got rid of it, but now you NEED Dlss to get rid of Ghosting. Going back to 1.3AVX Does helps a good deal but it still looks worse than 1.06 and the photos I took back when i was first playing ( with all settings maxed with RTX on) are the proof they looks SO GOOD and SO REAL and now the ones i took in 1.52 (same settings) look like some average video game from 6 years ago or more

I bought this game right after 1.5 dropped and got really into it. There is some level of leaving you free to roam in a huge map with gaps of things to do, but the things you do have to do are so enjoyable if you dig in like channel head is saying. The story is deep and thought provoking and emotional. I played through to the complete end after completing all known quests and have 3 other characters 2 of which are 50 and 1 which has played through the heist at 20. Like mentioned the focus of the build determines which weapons will work for you and which are weak. The game is only going to get better as they have announced a huge update and an expansion to address gaps and shortcomings in perfection.

It's the devs' job to be realistic about the state of the game and whether it's launch worthy or not. They didn't stand their ground, they simply let management and marketing run wild where in reality the chief developer should have stepped up and put his foot down telling them straight "this game is not ready, and we need to do X Y and Z if we want to live up to even a fraction of what our marketing has led people to believe they're buying". It's a B-movie script stretched out to 40 hours, "(gated) open world" that has nothing to do with the actions of the players, and actual gameplay that requires you to do exactly the same steps that the designers want you to do. In other words, it's pretty, and rather atmospheric, but ultimately incredibly shallow game that ultimately feels like a Game that you pause occasionally to watch a TV series.

I played Cyberpunk on a gaming PC and I absolutely loved it. Sure, some things that were promised were missing and everything regarding the police in the game was just hot mess but the story, and especially some of the side stories of characters you meet in the game were just incredible. I mean, for instance Judy Alvarez's story line, especially in relation to the main protagonist when she's a woman is one of the best in gaming. And regardless of which ending you choose (and yeah, there are quite a few), it ends up being heartbreaking. From when I started playing till the very end I was immersed in Cyberpunk completely. It was a game of the year for me. But I haven't played it on a console so I cannot say much about that experience.

The thing I lament about my current playthrough are the NPCs you save during an NCPD Mission. They are so indifferent towards you, even after saving then from certain death. Personally, this takes me out of the immersive experience. Also, it doesn’t seem to matter one way or the other whether you take on a non lethal approach or the complete opposite. Played it on release, since I've been hyped for this game since the 2012 trailer with the girl in the streets with her sword arms (didn't know what they were called back then haha) I played it on PC, on a 1080Ti, at high settings 1080p. I honestly did not have many bugs. I had a few glitches (which aren't bugs, bugs are gamebreaking) like the t-posing above your car in third person one and such. Had one crash in my first 45 hour playthrough, and had one moment where I had to reload from a checkpoint because Saul didn't yell back at Panam in one of the "cutscenes" so the story didn't progress. A reload of the checkpoint fixed that though. The story, characters, important character animations and environment are exemplary. Absolutely amazing, filled to the brim with detail and storywise, making you question things you may not have questioned before. It really gave me thoughts about humanity, same way that Ghost in the Shell had done years before. Gameplay-wise it was awesome too. My first build was a stealth build, and I literally could sneak in and out of most places without ever getting spotted, or easily killing people from stealth due to my perks being geared towards max headshot damage when in stealth. Second playthrough I made a balls-to-the-wall guns-blazing character, and enjoyed that too, especially because I also put stats into the Mantis Blades and loved just ripping up people. Now I'm at 250 hours, with my latest current playthrough being a VR-modded playthrough. Visually it's lower in VR due to the high demand, but am running it currently on a 3080Ti with 60FPS solid, and it's amazing just walking through the city (though aiming is harder obviously since the game wasn't made for VR). I am a fair person though, and I understand the criticism the game received. Heck, I bought the game on PS4 (physical) recently to sort of have a "time capsule" for the future, to be able to play Cyberpunk 2077 1.0 on a PS4. That being said, I do think people went overboard with their dislike, letting things like missing features and bugs ruin an amazing story for them. Which sucks, because I genuinely think that CDPR's devs tried really hard to make something special. Compare this to Saints Row 2022, and that game having bugs too, yet that game has 0 interest in telling a good story or write interesting characters. I think everyone should experience this game once at least, with an open mind, just looking at what the game IS, not what the game ISN'T (which a lot of people find hard). Especially now on 1.5 and with 1.6 + DLC on the horizon. Playing missions such as Jefferson Peralez's questline, River's questline, Kerry's questline or even playing through Johnny's questlines that are ripped straight from the original Cyberpunk 2020 book (I actually bought it because of this game, it's excellent and shows how far 2077 went with their attention to detail). That being said, I also understand if people tried the game and are still critical of it. I do think that some of them go too far with their "it's garbage" nonsense, because it very much isn't, however, the ones that are like "I tried it, and it's not the type of game I enjoy", I very much can understand them. Because it isn't a game for everyone. For instance, Bloodborne is one of my all-time favorites, and a friend of mine who's a big Dark Souls fan couldn't get through it because of its depressing atmosphere. Anyways: tl;dr: Love the game, understand why it got criticism but do think it's worth trying with an open mind, especially nowadays.

Then act 2 happened that feels like part of different screenplay it throws away everything which you thought CP2077 will be because of marketing, and V is now vehicle for some some guy that was not nice and now wants redemption after death. Everything from act 2 is downhill game is not about player character is about Johnny, most of other characters kinda lack of motivation and dont have enough screentime because game is short and 85% quests of the game are fetch quests gigs that are much worse version of Witcher 3's contracts. On top of that gameplay is awful, character progression is boring most of the skills are passive things like +50 to armor or health, combat is boring everyone act the same(imagine Doom, Halo, Witcher 3, Guardians of the Galaxy, Fallout or any game to be honest with only one type of enemy), open world is just for drive from one quests to another you will dont find anything here no minigames, no some cool sets like Witcher 3 you could find witcher school gear etc. because most of special things you will receive in quests so there is no reason to explore. I don’t begrudge anyone for liking this game. However I had a lot of issues with it. Despite a vast open world, it felt very “lifeless”. I found it to be very underwhelming to explore. Also, which you alluded to, the illusion of choice is always a big pet peeve of mine. It felt like choices had minimal impact, if any at all. The last big issue for me is that it’s first person only. This is a personal gripe, and I know people prefer FP, but it tends to make me very nauseated with the camera movements. Also part of the thrill of this game is the customization, and you basically don’t ever get to see it while playing. Funny enough I think a lot of AAA RPG’s can learn a lot from what this game did right. The presentation and immersion presented at the best parts of this game are second to none. The was conversation played out-when working- felt like an evolution of the bioware systems.

I've tried to play this game twice and each time I ran into absurd crashing and bugs. This game just came out 10 years too soon......

I keep going back to it because nothing has quite the same vibes, and only a few other games have characters that I've enjoyed interacting with as much as Panam and Mitch and Takemura and others. Especially if you choose the nomad main story path. A lot of the work done on Cyberpunk's character writing goes unnoticed and unappreciated, I feel like, and to everyone's detriment too. The nomad path has some of my favorite characters, and by the endgame most of my characters go around decked out as full members of the Aldecaldos, even if I don't end up taking that story path, because I just really like the jacket :D I can certainly understand why people don't like this game, but I never had that many technical issues with it bc my PC is pretty decent and I somehow avoided some of the worst bugs before they were patched. As a result I probably have a better opinion of it than most. Although also I just generally still find ways to enjoy "bad" games in spite of what others say about them. Like I still had a lot of fun playing Valhalla and Odyssey too, in spite of them not measuring up to how good Origins or Black Flag was. There are some things I would change about it if I could - I don't like how it's kind of just an updated vision of the cyberpunk genre - I wish they'd either gone for a pure nostalgia trip or done something more imaginative with the worldbuilding other than just the typical cyberpunk setting. The world has a lot of immersion issues, even if in other ways the detailed attention given to modeling and environment design can make it more immersive at times than something simpler. I think it says a lot that my favorite view of the city isn't from within it, but rather approaching it from the outside, or watching it recede into the distance behind me. Certain areas of the city can look so lively, but always, always there's just something so dead about it because of the lack of interactivity. And so as a result I tend to find the badlands and the outskirts to be a more enjoyable part of the gameplay, and the nomads in particular because those places have a level of interactivity that matches the population density. In the end I always find myself wanting a little bit more - and I think that while it doesn't match CDPR's style at all, Cyberpunk would benefit a lot from a follower system with characters just having simple barks and quick lines about the environment. Even just that little bit would bring things to life so much more than walking alone through a city full of lifeless crowds.

I started playing this game like 4 days ago. I really like the sci-tech atmosphere, the dialogues, the story in general, the vibes of the city itself... the game is like a digital art museum to experience. However it still suffers from bugs and crashes from time to time and the menu design is a bit confusing, although you get used to it eventually. I want to conclude this comment by saying that the game overall is good and it is worthy of your time, but I will never forget the lies and misleading promises that CDPR devs told us throughout their marketing campaign...

CD Projekt Red said that they're still gonna give 2077 big updates, so expect big things, Cyberpunk 2077 is absolutely incredible and they're not giving up on it anytime soon

I think CDPR did a great job fixing the bugs in this game and it looks stunning on PS5. That being said, my disappointment still stands today not because the game launched buggy but because the game is a poor game. The overal experience serves exposition rather than interaction and that has bugged me since day 1.
