Is it possible to propel ordinary bamboo skewers to supersonic speeds? It might sound easy but we had a very difficult time with this project to get it to work.

When I was a kid,we used to put Farmer lite anywhere matches in our.177 air rifles. Once shot, the match head would explode. Like those bamboo skewers,it only works up close. They did however, work at a longer distance, something like 20 feet. The really wicked ones,were the thorns from a cactus. When you take a pair of pliers and pull out a thorn, it's left with a little fluff stuck to the end. Those thorns were like darts and would stick into an orange at a considerable distance. Maybe 50 feet.

@@evilbetty9204 We had air cannon. Old compressor with ball valve and another factory size to load it with air. After that 2 inch ball valve we had stump of threated pipe so with plumbing stuff we could use multiple diameter pipes as barrels. from very small one to propell AA-patteries to 3 inch pipe to just go grazy. Beer bottles loaded with gasoline and bit of gunpowder lauched up to air were visible from multiple kilometers away... So yes it is kind of miracle that we still have all parts attached.

My dad told me about a farmer in southern MN back pre-1950 that was killed by a feather (can’t remember if it was a chicken or turkey feather) that a tornado picked up and hit him right in the heart. My dad told this to a neighbor and she said that they had found a silk scarf gone through a wood closet shelf. I think that the wind has a profound effect on the speed at which these objects can be flung but in some cases I wonder if the extreme rapid pressure drop may also contribute to these things? But I think that there’s a huge amount of extreme dumb luck, sometimes extremely bad dumb luck in the case of lives lost on how these things happen. As a kid doing dumb kid stuff I’ve spent hours try to recreate something cool that happened because of dumb luck and not been able to achieve the original cool thing that happened… just saying sometimes the universe deals you a one time only card and that’s how you have to accept it. Of course if you don’t do anything you don’t get my new cards! That’s why sunrise and sunset are so great there’s new ones every day and a chance to see something different. 😉

My dad, a Marine in World War II, told me of a friend who during an attack on one of the islands around the Coral Sea was hit in the arm by a wood bullet. The bullet, which the corpsman at the time said looked like bamboo shattered against a bone and sent slivers throughout his arm, making the wound very hard to heal. I did some research and found that the Japanese army used bamboo (or wood of similar sort to bamboo) to propel their rifle grenades. My guess is that a Japanese soldier in the panic of battle mistakenly loaded a grenade round in his rifle.

Essentially, it creates a pair of light beams. When the first beam is broken it starts a timer and ends the time when the second beam is broken. Since the two beams are a set distance away, it's able to calculate how fast an object is going by taking said distance and dividing it by the time it took the object to reach the second beam. There's a smarter way to say that, I'm sure.

I owned a sporting goods store back in the 70's. We were a dive shop and gun shop. I was working on scuba regulators one day and was using wood shafted "Q" tips, cotton tip applicators. To apply silicon to O-rings. In a rack on the bench was a .22 rifle barrel we had taken off a rifle that had been ringed by a stuck bullet. I thought wouldn't it be cool to run the 1st stage air from the regulator (125psi) behind one of the q tips like a blow gun. Put the barrel in a vise and placed the sharpened q tip in the barrel and placed the regulator hose against the chamber of the barrel and cracked the valve. The dart went through the hollow core door on my office and imbedded itself into the pine paneling on the far wall of my office. It is still there. Tried with some real high pressure, 1500-3000psi and it would shatter the bamboo just like you show in the video.

Arrows don't survive full power loads, the best thing you can get for shooting arrows is the new airguns that are purpose made for it.

@@TheExplosiveGuy There is also a barrel for the 10/22 that uses blanks to fire arrows. I hear it can send arrows at over 500 fps. it slips the arrow over a tube so it's like blowing the wrapper off a straw instead of stuffing the arrow down a barrel.

Tech tip. You can make a blank stronger by packing the powder in a blank by tapping the rim against a hard surface. You can weaken it by tapping the front on something. I worked commercial construction for decades. Sometimes we needed blanks to be stronger or weaker depending on what we were trying to fasten to.

Straw inside a tree or power pole is partly the straw velocity, but mostly from the wood being twisted opening up cracks that the straw can stick in. When the wind dies and stops twisting the wood, it returns to its normal position, trapping the straw.

As a kid when i ran out of ammo with my pump pellet rifle i would load tooth picks down the barrel as a makeshift muzzle loader. After some work the best i could make the tooth picks fly was to cut them in half. Because a long projectile tends to tumble in the air. Then stain them to add weight, and paint over the stain to provide exterior strength and prevent splitting from the pressure. I tried wadds of different types, but they only got in the way. The end result was a very cheap and lethal rat dart that was good up to 20 yards. My parents didn't like this new hobby of mine and cut my pellet rifle in two. They always ruin the fun.

You can buy/turn wooden dowels to any gauge. Would be nice to see what would happen if it perfectly engaged the rifling. Added bonus, you could also shorten them for stability.

@ExF1Guy
@ExF1Guy Жыл бұрын
@@societyz3r0 Not entirely sure. I believe they are similar in length to 22lr brass, which I am virtually certain will fit a 17hmr chamber. The case will likely split, similar to how a 22lr will bulge/split when used in a wmr chamber. SAAMI has all the cartridge dimensions available for free from their website. If you check the chamber dimensions of 22lr and 17hmr, that should tell you for sure.

That was hilarious and I'm glad I get notifications and saw it as soon as it came out because I think the KZbin censors might take offence to the Brittney shooting and remove it. I tried loading my Ruger 10-22 up with skewers but I couldn't get them in the magazine much less get them to feed. Just to many jokes to make about this one. I wonder what kind of velocity and accuracy could be achieved with a .22 air rifle pellet with a blank behind it.

Now that was fun, we tried shooting the skewers using our wrist rockets as kids, didn't work so well. Got the idea to try plastic straws (the old hard one's from McDonald's), surprisingly they flew much better, I think the hole in the middle allowed them to stabilize when flying. I love seeing the ideas you test on this channel, and I love the ballistic gel animals, they look perfect!
