To be fair I have yet to see a young TikTok influencer actually make a good response to stuff like this or apologize in a normal way. Kids really shouldnt be allowed to manage a public profile of any kind that have a million+ followers. They definitely need a PR manager at that point. EDIT: a lot of people are interpretating this like I'm saying that because he's young he shouldn't be responsible. That's not what I mean at all. He's 22, but he's still not mature enough to know what to censor online. It's not like you learn how to handle a following of millions of people ever. People will be stupid online no matter what, he is responsible for addressing it but the actions of his followers shouldn't always been seen as an extension of his actions. (I meant kids on TikTok in general as well, 12 yr olds shouldn't be allowed to have huge followings IMO)

As someone who works in the arts: none of us like working with people who act and feel entitled. Also he could still maybe finance some acting lessons, or get to know people in the industry…etc. I’ll give an analogy, imagine you’re an aspiring rapper and you producer your own music. You’re rapping career doesn’t take off but a major music label hires you as a producer because you’re 10x better at producing than you are at rapping. At the end of the day although you didn’t become a rapper you still technically fulfilled your dreams cause producers get PAID and also in this modern day era producers also get recognition. I think that’s a similar analogy to the actor/modelling scenario.

The thing about Juilliard is that they provide classical training to their students, hence the Shakespeare audition. Had Axel applied to a school with a more modern/experimental approach to acting, he might have gotten in, though I'm not sure if his basic acting skills are stellar (as I haven't seen clips of his basic acting skills). Coming from an actor who has witnessed this time and time again, some performers simply aren't suited for Shakespeare. I've seen plenty of talented actors absolutely botch Shakespeare, and I know exactly where Axel went wrong. First, when acting Shakespeare, you must take time to process the text and understand the meaning, especially if the text is new to you or you aren't comfortable with early modern English. Upon his initial reading of the excerpt from Hamlet, you can hear exactly what people do if they aren't comfortable with Shakespeare; they read the rhythm and the rhyme as opposed to the words and the meaning. Second, Axel did not need to do an accent at all. People tend to think that one must perform Shakespeare in a British accent to "remain true to the source," but the issue is that the original British accent that Hamlet was performed in at The Globe is a far cry from a modern British accent. When a seasoned Shakespeare performer or director hears someone put on a modern British accent, it immediately shows that the performer is an amateur. Additionally, I simply don't think that Axel is suited for a theatre career. His sole goal is to become rich and famous as an actor, but this is often not the reality for someone who goes to school for theatre. You don't go to school for theatre because you want to be rich and famous; you do it because you love the craft. When you truly love the craft, you would be happy becoming a high school theatre teacher or a regional actor, even if you had wanted fame. It's certainly not a life for everyone---as it definitely isn't for me, currently a STEM major---and it definitely doesn't seem to be a life for Axel. If he wanted a career in theatre for the love of the craft, he would not have put all of his eggs in one prestigious basket. He would have applied to multiple schools. Instead, I think he just woke up one day and decided he wanted to be a movie star. Maybe he can make it into Addison Rae's next Netflix Original.

Unironically, pretending to have an accent and then doing the audition without one (aka your normal voice) is low key a genius idea. First off, your audition is that much more impressive since you’re able to completely “hide” your accent AND if and when they find out you don’t actually have an accent they will be mind blown that they were bamboozled by your acting BEFORE the audition even happened.

The idea of auditioning for a BFA acting program (at any school but especially a place like Juilliard) and spontaneously doing an accent on one of your pieces, reciting Shakespeare without understanding the meaning, and then expecting the auditor to smile or give some indication that they liked it is INSANE. Film acting and stage acting are very different (especially when talking about classical theatre like Shakespeare) It seems to me that Axel is more suited for (if anything) film acting and Juilliard is not the right place for that. He can’t expect to get into a school that he chose because of prestige rather than if it was the best fit for him specifically. The part where he was reading his Shakespearean monologue made me cringe so hard because so much preparation goes into one monologue. Arguably the most important part of any monologue or scene is understanding what your character is saying and why they are saying it. He obviously didn’t know either.

People complain about big tiktokers getting big without 'doing anything' but this one... he did literally nothing. All he did was show his small ass apartment in New York (that he's living in bc he wants to, cause apparently his family is well off and he just likes to exploit that for views I guess) and people started following him
@imzabatch2 жыл бұрын
This is the thing for me and I'm surprised that I've seen almost no one else comment about this. When things like this happen all I can think is that it's such a slap in the face to people who do work for it, but still don't get these opportunities. You know he's going to get other opportunities outside of modeling too. But like there's are tons of people that want to get into modeling, practicing in their bedrooms and stuff, working at it and hoping to get a contract or signed to an agency. And this kid gets one for doing nothing but being popular for being mediocre and he didn't even want it. It's just such a slap in the face to people who actually work for it and still get rejected. The whole thing just sucks so bad from that standpoint to me.
@noface36412 жыл бұрын
yeah absolutely agree. all he had to do for people to feel like "he deserves more than this and should get literally a once in a lifetime chance" is... get a rejection. once. like... the bare minimum ANYONE who wants to be someone goes through in life. his fanbase acts as if he is so privileged he is above going through these normal phases. just for comparison: J K Rowling got her HP book rejected *12 times* before getting a positive reply. even legends and geniuses went through failures. and yet on the internet whole fanbases live in an imaginary world where this is somehow too sad for people like Axel to go through. like hello?? people who spent THEIR WHOLE LIVES and their every breath doing something to perfection get rejected, and this pissy boy should get everything he wants without so much as faking hard work. hysterical..
@b.w.222 жыл бұрын
Well, there’s a few things going on here. First, life is often unfair. But it’s also the case that even if someone has “worked so hard for an opportunity,” it doesn’t mean that they’re necessarily any good at that thing. Like it or not, this dude has made up this strange hustle and netted millions of followers. People are going to notice someone who’s getting that sort of attention and any business that relies on gaining interest, such as modeling or retail, is going to want the follow-on attention of those four million “fans.” It may all seem like a fluke and unearned, but if it were as easy as doing nothing at all, everyone would have millions of followers. The truth is that while hard work will often pay off eventually, success in many areas is more of a popularity contest than we might wish. Talent matters a great deal and he didn’t get into Julliard, after all. But looks and charisma matter quite a bit too as do connections and sheer luck.

I’m sure there are good things about it and good creators, but watching these vanilla ass dummies do some lazy dance or mug and pout at the camera makes me die inside a little. I mean, get what you can and all and obviously these people are meeting with success and all, but it makes me sad that kids these days aspire to be some dancing doof online instead of a fireman, doctor, or astronaut or whatever. Like others have said, it gives these people an unreasonable sense on entitlement, like this guy who though there was any chance he could just BS and wink his way into Julliard just because he was popular on tiktok and people liked him in high school.

what's hilarious is that this kid, who didn't understand what he was reading, and then threw on a poor accent, THEN ADMITTED THAT HE BLEW THE AUDITION BECAUSE OF IT, had all this publicity about it. a good part of acting is emotion, or the lack of it in some cases, and how you project it for the character, if you don't understand what you're saying, you can't give the proper feel to it, and so you struggle to bring the character to life through you. if you can't take something that has been interpreted hundreds of times- like much of Shakespeare has been- and figure it out, you aren't ready for it, and if you do want to be, at least don't go in half cocked and change plans- there's a reason that shows have hours of practice before they're in front of an audience.

tbh i dont think he actual said he is homeless or poor...in one of his youtube videos he said that he moved to new york to fend for himself and such...he never said he was poor. But ye him and the peanut butter thing and his overall food situation seems extremely forced

I've been doing acting as a hobby for the last decade, and I can absolutely promise you that the people judging your audition will not give you any kind of reaction no matter what they think of your performance, because they have to be objective during the process and can't show favouritism. I have been rejected in so many auditions and also had a director admit to my face that I was a top choice for a certain role, and each time I had no prior inkling about the outcome because the people doing your audition will never show it on their faces, so I don't know why this kid is whining about not getting a reaction and his fans literally starting a fight with a school. Even if his audition had gone well and his performance was the best out of everyone there, he still would not have gotten a reaction. That just goes to show that maybe he's not as good at/qualified for acting as him and his fans think?? I mean I wouldn't know if he's ever claimed to be a good actor or not or whether he has experience or not because I'm not on tiktok so I'm just speculating here.
