Back in the day, tuning in each week to Don Kirshner's Rock Concert and the Midnight Special went hand in hand with watching American Bandstand, Soul Train and SNL. I was anywhere from 15 to 18 back then and to me, those were good times!

Brain Wilson is the 20th century Mozart, he wrote, produced and arranged all the music, he is beyond legend, him and Paul McCartney were born a week apart and McCartney worships him as do many others like Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and David Gilmour, put it this way, Beatles put out Rubber Soul, Brian Wilson is taken aback and vows to out do them and conjures up Pet Sounds, McCartney hears it and is blown away and realizes he has to step up his game hence Sgt. Pepper....Brian Wilson is the ONLY other musician that intimidated The Beatles, I saw them in 1976 and 78 and well they were just fun to see, their concerts were one big sing along, thousands and thousands just singing every word, it was amazing.

The first time I heard this, I was at a friends house with another friend. He had just gotten the new album and when this was playing, we were looking at one another incredulously, not believing what we had just heard. Brian Wilson is a genius.

I grew up with The Beach Boy's music & had a lot of their records. Brian Wilson was the genius songwriter of the group. They span many decades but I love their early stuff from the 60's-70's. Their music conveys such happy innocent days of youth (surfing, cars, romance). They had tons of hits such as "Surfin' U.S.A.", "Surfin' Safari", "I Get Around", "California Girls", "Help Me, Rhonda", "Barbara Ann", "Heroes & Villains", "Sloop John B.", "Fun Fun Fun", "Little Deuce Coupe", "God Only Knows", "In My Room" etc.

I am 55 going on 56 and The Beach Boys have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My parents, especially my mum, were lovers of pretty much all music genres. Except heavy and death metal, and some country and western music. Their appreciation of music has stood me in good stead my whole life. I hope we can see some more of your reactions to this wonderfully talented group, Jamel ❤❤❤

The Beach Boys have always been one of my favorite bands. Brian Wilson is a true musical genius. With their "wholesome, clean cut" image it is still difficult to envisioning any of them being connected to the Manson Family. Dennis Wilson, was always the wild one and one day in 68 he picked up a couple of girls hitchhiking along the PCH and it turned out the be future Sharon Tate murderer Susan Adkins and two other Manson girls. They ended up staying with Wilson for a while and Charlie and other family members would go to Wilson's home on Sunset blvd. Wilson eventually came to fear Manson when Manson claimed Beach Boys producer Terry Melcher backed out of a promise he made to produce some of Manson's music. Manson was furious and wanted to get Melcher for this "betrayal" and sent people to his house. Melcher had however moved from the residence on Cielo drive and it was now occupied by Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski. The rest as they say is history.

Brian Wilson used to take a Hit of acid everynight when he was writing songs. They had gone to the recording studio, and he was tripping Everywhere he would say bad vibrations and then to the next wall, bad vibrations. He went home and kicked out this song. Another night he was tripping sitting at the piano, the same three notes. And when he came down he added West Coast girls are Hip. Love it

It's funny how the Beach Boys evolved. Brian was the Genius, Mike was to voice. Brian wrote the songs and sang the falsetto. Mike sang baritone and talked about cars. After Brian broke down, Mike and Brian's brother Carl took over the band, along with Al Jarden and Bruce Johnston to become the summer concert staple.

What a lot of fun that was, and how sexy those dancers! Yeeehi! Parties with painted clothes were some of the best, but I missed out on the hot tubs and such, but probably just as well. I'm fairly introverted and private, at least now, and survived. This is now my favorite video of the band, which I did see, but was such a Prog fan, it didn't make much of an impact on me. They were just as essential, but whose magnetic center may well have been eclipsed by the British Invasion, like Elvis, and the wethead in general.

DID YOU KNOW ? Jamel , I am so glad you reacted to another Beach Boys song, I have always wanted to give you a TRIVIA question concerning a member of this band in relation to a famous NBA / college player. This player , I won't say who because I want you to look it up on the web and research it; played at UCLA and won a championship in Cleveland with Lebron James. Do you know who this player is ( his father also played professionally) and how he is related to a member of this band? ( Hint: it was his Uncle). Jamal let me know if you read this and maybe you could do a 1-2 minute reactions video about this , if you didn;t know this till now. History and Facts are always interesting when it hits close to home near you.

I got tickets to The midnight special years ago to see thin Lizzy and Aretha Franklin. it looks like a great big stage and building for an audience but it's not it's a long narrow room with a stage at one end and a stage on one side. It fits about 500 people and you sit on the floor. At least that's how it was in the late 70's.

The only reason I would never suggest listening to a live version is because it would be nice if you could experience the song the way we did when we first heard it. In most cases, a live performance never does the song justice, though there are a few exceptions to the rule.
