There's a phenomena among bad voice actors, or people at home wanting to get into the business, where they are either not confident enough in their own ability to commit to the role, or are obviously recording somewhere where there is some kind of noise code, where they will sort of whisper-shout their lines instead of putting in real emotion behind their performance. That is kind of what this girl is doing, she's not committing to the performance, that's why it sounds jank as hell. Like when she hits the high notes, she purposely pulls her voice back as if she is physically making the motion of projecting but doesn't follow through.

I am absolutely convinced of the "social experiment" theory in regards to Sarah Brand and this song, and I'm betting the experiment has to do with one of two things: 1. Just how savage social media can be (which I wouldn't think needed to be proven yet again since we've seen countless examples of it) or 2. How someone can become insanely popular despite being horrifically bad at what they're trying to be popular for. She just doesn't come off as some random young woman neck deep in entitlement and convinced she's the best singer ever so she's insisting on sharing her "talent" with the world. I could be dead wrong, but that's just the impression I get.
