@@Raison_d-etre a reason for that is higher taxes and more regulation, which stifles people starting businesses, drives up rents becuase landlords just push the higher taxes to renters, etc. More regulation such as zoning, stops developers making more housing, which increases value of available housing.

It's the deft synthesis of the more formal tone and lingo of testifying to Congress and cable news with the language of the gf/bf argument about moving in together that really makes this brilliant. The actors really knock this out of the park, IMO. The girl's testimony to Congress absolutely cracked me up. And, of course, the newswoman: "We're not arguing, we're just talking"--while maintaining her newsy/talking-head tone...

@opisex I tried looking for a source but I'm guessing it's been buried with time. It wasn't a huge headline even at the time (Like 5-8 years ago?), I don't think, simply because of the absurdity. I mean, yeah, they may get laughed out of a legislature, but the fact that they even TRIED is the disturbing part. Anyway, I shouted a few "colourful" phrases, gave the middle finger to the screen and moved on. Didn't think to make special note of it, because this mentality is becoming more and more prevalent, so I'm sure there will be more cases similar in nature coming along.

The fact that even if you ignore the thinly veiled attempt to just force the boyfriends to let the girlfriends move in, it’s pointed out each boyfriend has need of or has a roommate who I assume would be kicked out if the girlfriend moved in, meaning no less housing expenditures as individuals would occur. For every girlfriend moving in, at least one roommate would move out. So there would be no decrease to the national debt, the idea upon which their entire argument is based.

Women's hormones make them want to settle down and have babies. Men's hormones just make them want to fuck anything. The aim of both is to procreate and ensure survival of the species. You can't blame either for doing what nature tells them. This is why its best for women to choose men a few years older whose hormones are calming down and whose lowered levels of testosterone are more directed to protection and security. Women mature quicker than men because they have less time to reproduce.
