We’ve created an extremely snarky,, sarcastic, and judgmental culture where everyone is afraid to embarrass themselves or make a fool of themselves in front of each other. This had lead to us just avoiding each other and it is causing us to be lonely.

I think the meaning of life is connection. That starts with yourself. Building connections to your inner child and nurturing yourself back to adulthood. Then you’re able to value connection with others. Without the connection to yourself first all other attempts at connection feel empty. Once you value the connection your brain will open up a whole new way

I’ve studied Gnosticism and Jung for over 25 years, and meaning is a big part of that. imo, the problem is that meaning-making takes quiet, solitude and actual work. You can’t order meaning and have it the next day. Also, we’re so locked-in to all things tangible that we don’t understand the inner life. It speaks in images (such as in dreams, etc.) and takes work and patience to accomplish an understanding.
@yoeyyoey8937

Jordan Peterson puts it simply; meaning is found in responsibility. Whether it be responsibility in providing for a family, responsibility in upholding a stressful job that helps others etc... I really resonate with that because infallible truth as to who we are, what we are and why we’re consciously ‘here’ is not seemingly knowable to us in this physical realm of existence. It seems we can only feel a sense of meaning by doing something entirely external from ourselves

Gnosensism - and every illuminati popularized and new age path - is a trap. Went down that rabbit hole 44 years, then learned it's just more mind control against humanity to confuse...and like all illuminati (we can just refer to them as what they are & have been since before organized under that name - worshippers of evil) paths, it INVERTS the truth and teaches to DO EVIL (same with kabbalah) under the deceptiom that being destructive - in additon to sometimes doing good - is necessary to "become your own god/dess." Basically these systems were created by selfish pervert predators to gradually pervert others into SUBhuman behavior so they can didddle kids.z As there are worshippers of the Evil One of many names today, and since the beginning of civilization, there were such evil tricksters then, and they diabolically-cleverly buried their lies in caves and within the secret evil-worshipping clubs. Basically, if it's pushed by ladies in yoga pants and men with their hair in buns, it's likely a new age scam (tho I believe most - esp in 20s & 30s - haven't gone down the rabbit hole long enough to discover how truly evil gnosticism is. Just a heads up after decades down that path.

The thirsty soul thing Theo mentions I think it comes from being to separated from nature. Living among the street, concrete, city light, noise. There a feeling that something is missing, you can say the most important part of yourself. And that is nature. Trees, rivers, mountains, birds. And with that comes connection and after that meaning and purpose.

Ignorance has blinded us from something that i think humanity has always had. And that is yearning, and it doesn’t necessarily pertain to one individual thing. Living the same life day after day becomes monotonous. Surely a person desires something new, something different, or interesting. Best example is addiction, our body almost punishes us for being in that same place, and it takes stronger yearning to change. Like Joey Diaz said “ you ever met a person that don’t do nothing. I like a person with a little edge to em” 😂

Humanity has ALWAYS had a meaning crisis. Its the nature of thinking one is a self, dukkha, and all that. A threatened sense of meaning is why people invented religion, and so on: its a ubiquitous feature of human life since the dawn of man. People tend to just fallback on finding their meaning in their relationships with others, as most aren't capable of questing, grand artistic achievement, and so on. Thus the issue is really the tears in the social fabric: the social isolation, the inability for people to date, the schism between men and women, social media, etc. The crisis of meaning and these crises are one and the same.

3 pillars that always propped up humanity: clan, connection to nature and a unifying myth. All 3 are severely diminished or gone. Meaning and identity are interwoven concepts and they arise from those 3 factors. Our clan shows us who we come from and who we owe our allegiance to. We have a role within it, an identity. Our connection to nature grounds us to the world. The unifying myth creates shared values and an understanding of origins, sacred rituals that are shared by community that creates bonding that transcends the mundane as we traverse sacred space together. All that is largely gone in a secularized world of technology where nature is a resource to be exploited or used for recreation. And family / clan is sacrificed on the altar of personal ambition.

As a species we didn't evolve to "save for retirement". The expectation that it is "rational" to devote so much of our precious time and energy to saving money for retirement is probably why we are so lonely. In prehistoric times, growing old use to mean building and attending to relationships rather than saving for retirement.

I believe that life is ultimately meaningless, and that more and more people are becoming privy to this. Religion used to fill the void, but as our scientific knowledge has increased, religion has become difficult to take seriously.
@yoeyyoey8937

It’s not religión vs science. This is a false dichotomy. Religion is a thing that gives people meaning but it’s not the only thing that has that capacity. Meaning is something you find for yourself because it doesn’t exist objectively (although that’s what we’d like to believe cause it makes us feel better and that’s why people are attracted to religion-it gives you the sense of objective meaning). If you can get over that fantasy instead of falling for it or resisting it (which is the same thing, in both instances you are assuming it’s real and important) then you can start doing the work to make life meaningful.

You better check yourself before you wreck yourself, SON... As nihilism's what actually will bring about the end of times apocalypse if that's a thing which exists or has the potential to exist, NOT atheism...and, maybe it is just me, but I believe that this cynical way of life...and thinking, nihilism, is the true bane of humanity and its existence being a -- if not THE major cause of what's put us into the boat that we're in right now...rocketin' towards, and into the (figurative) sun!

Also...as yoeyyoey has alluded to in this and other comments here on this video's comment section threads, it is not really that life doesn't have ANY meaning, BUT, in all actuality, has TOO MUCH meaning, way too many things for our pea BRAINS to land on just one... It's kinda like...have you ever wanted to watch TV, or a movie, only to search for way TOO long through seemingly, 1000s of available options, to then in the end just say, "Screw it; there's nothing ON!" watching none of them? It's pretty close to that with finding meaning and purpose in life, hence the old saying: "Life is what you make it (or make of it)."

@@gingersnap7202 it’s not about joy outweighing suffering (you can’t really quantify or probably even qualify that to start with), it’s about not having to suffer and finding the way to the divine, which is eternal bliss, in this life as well as the one outside of this life. Most humans are unconscious which is why you see the issues you are mentioning. However, conscious people _should_ have kids for these reasons.

When you become aware & alert, you need to give yourself a purpose or meaning to be here & contribute to society! We all need food, water, & shelter (Planet Earth). It's how we're brainwashed or indoctrinated to go about getting our essentials. Understanding electricity & magnetism helped me! "I'll try to be a little socratic"! "Maybe there's 2 poles to this problem"! "Interdependent"! Positive + & Negative - The Balance! You need both to complete a circuit. Magnets have 2 poles. Planet Earth is a *HUGE* magnet! How do we record? With electricity & magnetism! What we see, hear, & feel, in essence, experience, get converted to electrical signals to get back to our brain for interpretation! You can't have electricity without magnetism & vice versa! Our soul or spirit is the Electronic Signature or Software, for a lack of a better term, that takes whatever we learned or recorded, to the collective consciousness for review. Our body & brain are the hardware (TV Tuner, Radio & radio station, Antenna, RAM, Graphics card, SSD, etc.). Theo, I don't know what I'm trying to say "but can you help me"!?
