Fear of dogs is also consistently in children's top 10 fears year after year, usually because of a single instance with a "scary" dog. I was lucky enough to have enough experience with dogs to understand that my childhood "scary" dog experience was my own fault. I can still remember actively working out that yes, dogs *can* be scary, but that doesn't mean they *have to* be scary. If I didn't have the understanding of dogs I did at that time then I would have been scared of dogs, especially with how the adults reacted when they saw the scratches on my face and learned I went out to play with the pack of Great Danes all by myself at age 6. The human adults ended up being much scarier than the giant dogs.

Also, working in healthcare and spending so many afternoons treating dog bites - even from 'calm, friendly' breeds - has made me incredibly wary of dogs I don't know. Key: dogs I don't know. Dogs who belong to my family and friends, who I have a rapport with and know how they behave, I'm 100% fine. Random strange dog runs up to me at the park? I'm not putting my hand out.

Women are not yelling at men for holding open the door. That's not happening that's just not a thing. I had a coworker once who ran around me, literally ran, from behind me, around me, so that he could get to the door first and hold it open for me. Then, when we were going into the meeting, he tried to complain that women don't like having the door opened for them anymore. I tried to explain to him that it wasn't about holding the door, it was the fact he ran around me to get there that made me uncomfortable. But he just couldn't understand why that would be such an uncomfortable thing for women. I always hold the door open for the person behind me, my 8yo DD does as well, holding the door should not be gendered, it should be kind. But running past someone so that you can be seen as "gallant" and a "gentlemen" just isn't it. (And it wasn't because he was trying to date me or anything, I was recently married and he knew it, he just genuinely thought that this behavior would make him a gentleman).

As someone who lives in America, I do have to mention that a lot of people who vote for Biden are just voting for the lesser of two evils, and because we're not a cult, Trump supporters think Biden won't be president because we don't have Biden flags hanging up. That is because we don't worship him, we tolerate him as the better of two not good options. The second video of the woman making the argument, that just because one dog bites you doesn't mean all dogs are bad, is kinda ironic. Yes, not all dogs are bad, but the ones that bite are taken down medically immediately as a consequence of their action. This way, they can never hurt anybody again. The difference between bad humans (especially cis-het white men) and dogs, is that there are almost zero consequences for their crimes. In non-western countries those crimes aren't even considered crimes, because men get endless free passes to treat women and children however they want, when and wherever they want.

On the "not all men" bit, she says that women all have fathers and brothers and uncles and grandfathers they would qualify as good men, therefore not all men rape, abuse and are violent. But she forgets the if you have been sexually abused as a child, there is a 90% chance it was perpetrated by a male you love and trusted. There is also a 58% probability that it was by the victim's own biological father. This is such a heartbreaking statistic. You cannot even trust family. Therefore you cannot trust all men. It is survival at this point. It may seem unfair to the good men but women cannot take the chance to blindly trust.

The thing about the dog versus men comparison is that yes, a lot of people do form a fear of dogs after being attacked or bitten by one. But the difference between dogs and men is that if you are apprehensive about dogs because you don’t know if a certain dog is going to hurt you or not it doesn’t really take even five minutes of meeting and seeing it’s demeanor to figure out if that dog is a threat to you or not. so it’s easier to deduce whether a dog is a threat to you pretty much right away. Whereas with men it’s a lot harder because they can be really nice to you at first to lure you in, a dog is not going to do that. Men can trick you make you think that they’re innocent and then turn around and hurt you. And I think that’s a really important distinction to make if people are going to argue about being afraid of dogs versus being afraid of men. It’s just like that thing that people are saying right now where they would rather encounter a bear in the middle of the woods, then encounter a man. The bear, much like dogs, are rather predictable and you can gauge their temperament right away. You don’t know what a random man in the woods is going to do. That’s arguably more scary than any animal that could hurt you. Don’t get me wrong I would still be scared shitless if I saw a bear in the middle of the woods. But again it’s an animal. It’s pretty predictable. In that situation I would just try and get out of there. Yeah there is a chance that I could die, but depending on the kind of bear that it is most likely it’ll probably just be chill and leave you alone. But men? no way dude

"not all men" ok so let me get this straight, if we don't automatically trust men we are evil, yet if we do automatically trust men and something happens to us it's "why would you put yourself in that position, you know how men are", then there is also if we wear anything that's the least bit revealing we need to worry about our safety to the point we need a gun. So no matter what we are to blame?

How could you not have known the one you picked was poisoned? And if you refuse, how dare you! Only two glasses are poisoned, after all! The dismissal of Toxic Masculinity genuinely upsets me like nothing else. Because it's negatively impacted my life. I had it baked into my societal upbringing. I can't confidently express myself so often because the "idea of what a man is and should be" way of thinking creates massive anxiety in me when I want to do things that are expressive in a non-masculine way. The dismissal of it bothers me because it's erasure of my struggles and the known and unfortunate reality that this outdated and harmful ideology has stunted and still halts my expressive freedoms and mannerisms. But then also it allows said practice to be kept alive and potentially hurt others. And take away from them the freedom to express and act and be how they want to without mental barriers holding them back. Anyone who actually defends Toxic Masculinity, and people who write it off as not real, are active abusers and terrible people, imo.

Went to check on them with my dog (who was more than twice their size), after I put up posters to try to alert their owners, and they attacked him and bit me bad enough I had to go to urgent care. (My dog was fine, he didn't fight back, just tried to get away.) Called animal control on them and didn't look back. I have seen several dogs that clearly got loose, and unless I see an owner trying to catch them, I just watch them go by. I don't trust strange dogs not to attack me. I certainly don't trust strange dogs that aren't leashed.

The thing is... yeah, not all men are going to commit sexual assault. But are the men who don't do it calling out and condemning the men who do? Or are they making excuses for them? Are they believing the victims? Are men in positions of authority working to make sure the men who commit sexual assault don't get rewarded and have their crimes covered up or dismissed so they can just move on to the next victim? Are men speaking up when they see rape, assault, or exploitation glorified? If men aren't being part of the solution, then yeah, they're part of the problem. Not as big a part of the problem as the men actually committing the crimes, but a part nonetheless.

Applogies in advance for the rant but I had facepalmed so hard on the "Where to find masculine men" one. Like lady, the only reason you can make this tick tock without permission from a man is because of feminism. The reason you're allowed to choose what you want to wear for the day, go shopping with your own money, choose a job, have a car, etc is because of feminism. Woman can be independent just like anyone else & when they say they don't need men they're referring to how back in the day when they literally had to relay on men because they had no choose & literally couldn't be independent unless they got permission from a man usually their father or their husband. They were seen a property instead of a person who could think & make chooses for themselves. This idea that feminism is about hating on masculinity makes no sense. Toxic is an adjective that is added to the next word because just as there is toxic masculinity there can be toxic feminism since Toxic in this context about taking certain traits that are classified as "masculinity" or "feminine" to the extreme such as shaming a boy/men/masculine presenting people for being "too feminism" or shaming girls/woman/feminine presenting people for being "too masculine" & trying to force people into a box that restricts what they can & can't do based on their sex or perceived gender. Instead of just letting people be themselves & have their preferences. Also funny how some of the same people I see complain about their being no more masculine men tend to be the same people who scream to let kids be kids but then what to force gender stereotypes on to said children. Meanwhile feminism as long as it's not taken too far is about letting people just exist & be themselves because who cares if a child wants to wear clothing or play with toys that doesn't fit the "gender norm." If its age appropriate & people aren't getting hurt then who cares

The thing about holding open doors to me has always been less about "women don't want men to hold open doors for them because it's patronizing" and more that men got it in their heads that showing basic kindness in extremely performative ways would make women fall head over heels for them despite any other personality flaws they have. And then when they don't they complain about being "friendzoned" despite being "nice guys". Seriously, if anyone needs to be told this, holding open a door for another person is not a difficult thing to do, affects your life a trivial amount, and isn't going to make you a significantly better person if that's your idea of being kind. It's fine to hold a door open for someone, just don't get weird about it and expect praise to be heaped on you for something so simple.

I find this so interesting, because I've started to realize in adulthood that I didn't grow up with a "masculine dad." I alternate between femme and more butch presentation, and my dad has had conversations over coffee about how he thinks it's so cool. He has said that he hated gatherings with other dads like at birthday parties, because all they wanted to do was talk about sports and other "guy-hobbies." My dad taught me to sew, crochet, do beadwork, and made me into the artist I am today helping him paint. He also does woodworking, and is like a somolier of different beers, is an engineer, and plays multiple instruments. Yet conservatives like this only see the "non-masculine man." My partner is very traditionally masc presenting, and you know, he is also multi-faceted! It baffles me to see people assume someone's interests based on presentation. They might have something in common with "feminine men!" Having a type is one thing, but they act like these people should be ostracized. To quote my dad: "how did I grow up with David Bowie and now we've ended up here?"
