Excellent instructions! I just installed a Kasa HS220 smart dimmer and the hot and load wires DO matter. You have a 50-50 chance of getting it right (I didn't) so just flip the two wires and it works great.

It does matter which of the black Kasa switch wires are connected to the power line if another standard single pole switch shares power from the same hot wire. After initial installation the standard single pole switch failed to send power to the light. After I swapped the Kasa black wire connections both the Kasa and the single pole switches worked.

Thanks for the clear and concise instructions. I will receive a three pack of Kasa dimmer switches with a new Alexa/Echo 3 tomorrow and looking forward to installing and using. It is replacing a very old system that connected to my desktop computer with Cat5. and a type of modem that plugged into an electrical outlet. Haven't used it in years.

Glad to help. I just installed another one of these switches this morning in a storage room in my basement. I always find myself walking down there with my arms full, the light is out, and I struggle to walk through safely. Now I can just ask Alexa to turn on the light as I'm walking down and I don't have to set my stuff down to turn it on.

Very clear instructions! Having problem turning on. We have 2 light switches in the dining room. Now that it's installed, the regular light switch is blinking on and off and the Kasa isn't working at all. Any solutions?

Are the switches in two different locations in the dining room and controlling the same light. If so, you need a 3-way switch version of the Kasa switch.

@@KaskadeHD The light switches work without calling home. They just connect to your Wifi and work. Plus they're still physical switches so even if the worst case scenario happened, you'd still have a regular light switch

The wires from the device look like aluminum which you don't want to connect to copper in that manner(twist on). Does anybody know how to tell if the wire is aluminum or not? and if they are aluminum I think this is a fire hazard for most houses.

The video is good but the unneccessary back ground music playing is a distration from focussing on the subject at hand. You aren't allowed to wear headphones with music playing when working on a job site (workers comp says no) so why have uneccessary noise when a person is trying to learn, and follow video instructions?
