This movie is seriously as good as they say it is, even if you rest on the performance of the lead actor alone. His line delivery can be a tad hit or miss but his physicality is astounding. He uses his body to believeably convey his circumstances and it is impressive to see. There are times when he turns his head and his body into two separate characters and you BELIEVE it. It really is something to see and I couldn't impress upon you enough to check it out.

@@djvibekiller his line delivery is fine.

Leigh Whannell is a hell of a screenplay writer. I still maintain that one of the biggest reasons Saw went downhill after 3 is Leigh was no longer a writer for it. He's a very funny, very creative, talented guy and I was JAZZED as hell to see this. It's as good as they say, I promise. James Wan is amazing but now its Leighs time to shine!

Oh Brad, my man, just wait until you see Hereditary! You are in for a ride with THAT one!
@doctordoom856 жыл бұрын
I'll second that, that was an excellent film! Seriously, I would say it has one of the best "once you see it, you'll shit bricks" moment in a horror film IMHO (referring to a certain shot in a dark room in the final act).
@heymistercarter.6 жыл бұрын
I actually saw the film early at a film festival in April, and yea, there are a lot of those moments for me with that film. There was one moment (which I won't spoil for those who haven't seen the movie, but for those who have, the hint I'll give is that it involves a car) where I could barely BREATHE when it happened. It really is one of those "Did that really just happen?" scenes in a film, and one that works so well. And the way the movie handles it afterwards, it really is one of those things where you have to ask yourself how on earth you would deal with or even explain something like this in the situation the characters are in.

fucking emotional terrorism. I might go see it again.

Bonus disturbing points when one of the antagonists shares names with your own mother; that's ALWAYS fun in horror films that are genuine mindfucks in their own right.

"It felt like watching RoboCop for the first time" Shit, really? I remember when I watched RoboCop for the first time I had to close my eyes when ED-209 gunned down Mr. Kinney... I was 8. Can it really be that good? Hmm, I shall have to find out myself.
@Spthomas476 жыл бұрын
It's a good damn time, bud. Saw it the other day and start to finish I enjoyed the fcuk out of it. Couple small problems with it, but nothing distracting enough to take me out of it. Not that my opinion matters, but I recommend it as well.
@wolfspider44846 жыл бұрын
My friend brought me in to this movie. Knew nothing about it beforehand. Heard it was by Blumhouse so I was a bit nervous (not particularly a normal fan of Blumhouse) but wow, awesome. And it's still a relatively low budget? It was- like- 3-5 million dollars or something. Eat your heart out Justice League- with your 300 million dollar budget.
@weirdguy14953 жыл бұрын
With Blumhouse, it's basically a jelly bean tasting challenge. Sometimes, it's a Get Out, Quiet Place, or Upgrade. Sometimes it's The Purge, the Black Christmas remake, or Truth or Dare.
@marikotrue34886 жыл бұрын
It is a very good film with the lead (Logan Marshall-Green) making this movie exceptional. I kind of wish the humor had been carried to the end, but that is more personal preference than for any other reason. Kudos to Leigh Whannell (director/writer) for being courageous enough to end this movie as he did.

When brad was talking about the plot I was thinking of a different Spider-Man villain. I was thinking of Dr. Octopus, mainly the Alfred Molina version.

Saw it last night at the Sydney Film Festival and loved it. A great throwback to 80s revenge film with a sci-fi twist. So much fun.

a lot of this concept (at least the computer taking over the brain) reminds me of the musical Be More Chill, even if that's more of a high school drama thing...it really is more horror than anything else
@stephaniewozny38526 жыл бұрын
mitkitty, I was thinking of Be More Chill, too.

If they added Romance, porn addiction, ands beautiful song number about getting a panic attack in a bathroom, it would be exactly like Be More Chill
@spooplegeist52606 жыл бұрын
Is that based on the Ned Vizzini book?
@mitkitty6 жыл бұрын
Spooplegeist yeah but it takes some liberties. Mostly the latter half where the SQUIP is trying to brainwash everyone and it nearly goes apocalyptic

Upgrade was an awesome movie. My friend and I got the redband trailer for it before Deadpool 2 and it peaked our interest. Saw it opening night and was pleasantly surprised. Had no idea it existed but the Drafthouse knew that people seeing DP2 would like the story and action of Upgrade.

Sorry I missed you guys at Wizard World Des Moines. I just couldn't make it out. If you come back to the event next year and want to do some Midnight Screenings in Des Moines so you don't have to do a marathon when you get back home there a lot of good theaters in and around central Iowa. First is the Cinemark Theater which is attached to the Jordan Creek Mall in West Des Moines. It has the most screens and times available. The down side is that it is attached to a mall so the parking lot is usually pretty busy. The second is the AMC theater in Johnston. A little bit more of a drive, but it is just off I-80 North. And finally Flix Brewhouse (which is one of those theaters that serves meals during the show). It is also inside a mall, but is probably one of the better theater experiences. Every opening weekend that a superhero movie comes out there are cosplayers in their lobby taking pictures with the customers. As the name of theater suggests they do brew their own beers there as well. There are some smaller theaters around as well, but they're not as easy to get to.

I saw this on opening weekend, and it was damn good. It's a shame it opened at number 6, but given that it didn't quite get a wide release, that makes more sense now. The (small) audience I saw it with loved it.

When I got out of the movie I liked it a lot, but then started thinking about how completely nonsensical the actual villain's plan was. Like they could've cut out like 5 steps and not killed a dozen dudes if they just picked an already quadriplegic guy already at some hospital and bullshitted some excuse to have the hacker take the limiters off. It's especially glaring since the movie made a big deal out of disabled veterans being around since you could just grab one of them instead of ruining a completely random person's life, hiring and betraying a bunch of hitmen, and killing 3 police officers. If the movie didn't as suddenly as it did, you'd see the villain get arrested the next day since there was a goddamn mountain of evidence including at least 3 witnesses!

The less I know about this movie the better. I'll watch this one later after I see the movie, guys.

I got a real Shakespearean Tragedy vibe from Upgrade. What I mean by that is that all the named characters end up worse off by the end of the movie than at the beginning.

@ZDanimations5 жыл бұрын
not to mention the twist doesnt make sense, the fact that stem can talk and it a suprise to aaron doesnt make sense, the fact that aaron is intimidated and manipulated by his own creation doesnt make sense, the fact stem randomly knows specialized detail implies that it was programmed with that intention (nonsense given the reason it was developed in the first place). The implanted guns were stupid... you load them just like a regular gun.. i mean tbh is it really even an improvement from a handgun? I enjoyed the movie not taking the cheap "it was all a dream" route at the end but fuck was it poorly written.

i wasnt a fan, i felt like a lot of the plot was poorly thought out, i instantly knew the ending and the film baddie within the first 10 minutes. I wasnt impressed, in fact I was moderately annoyed.. I found it hilarious that the hacker was using sudo commands on a presumably linux/unix terminal... So some genius can have his network connection to STEM blocked and stem rebooted withing 2 minutes of sudo commands...... bitch please, aaron didnt plan for that? then it shows him crying.. it was a shitty movie.. please explain the sound effects you here when "stem" takes over. i mean, the guy is still flesh and bone, with a GAL chip in his spine lol... the lead actor was top notch though, the plot and inconsistencies were shit.

This movie was baby’s first cyberpunk movie. It was hilariously corny and face palmy. Action was fine but the trailer shows all the good stuff. Robocop is 100x better than this forgettable trash.
