You'd really like Chris D'elia then. Kurtis' whole cadence and quirks stem heavily from D'elia's style of natural speach in a performative space. I like Kurtis a lot and I'm sure he *was* a big fan of D'elia and respectful of comedy enough to not knowingly copy him but he definitely has borrowed a lot of his mannerisms, likely subconsciously.

to the girl who wanted advice with the homophobic classmate-- I would honestly tell your teachers that you are not comfortable working with her. I would also lay down boundaries with the girl. Tell her sexuality, relationships, relgious beliefs, and morality will not be a topic of disscussion anymore with her. Like Kurtis said, you don't have to be nice to her. Your saftey and health is your number one priority. Remember, it is not your job to change that girls' mind about queer people, it is also probably unlikely that her view will ever change unfortuneatly. Living your life happily and with pride is enough of a rebellion against homophobia. Your health and well being is most important. Good luck

@@starsparks3150 i've noticed the actual sentiment of eat the rich has been misunderstood by some people. it's eat the MEGA rich who all got there by being the human equivalent of dirt on the bottom of society's shoe and hold the economy in their hands, not eat the 'average' rich person. the way it's been misunderstood sort of reminds me of how being a conscious consumer has been used to demonise low income people instead of the rich influencers who both promote unethical brands and can afford to do better.
@starsparks31503 жыл бұрын
@@chickenfoot2423 Oh I don't deny that. And while better tax laws are necessary, just taking away money or redistributing it won't solve the issues. Also the internet is unfortunately extremely American, and while America definitely is waayyyyy too capitalistic, many other developed countries with decent laws work fine, and developing countries need actual capitalism. There's just a lot of lack of nuance and understanding in the discussion which unfortunately influences those who aren't American and have completely different issues within their countries to follow the sentiment. I think people being upset at Hasan is justified, most of the people he makes fun of are people how own mansions that r worth millions of dollars and people made fun of that girl who wore an eat the rich shirt and then bought a million dollar apartment so why is he special? I think the most upsetting thing is the hypocrisy of it. that money could've gone to mutual aid or charity but it went towards him and his luxury, he's simply not practicing what he's preaching yk. if some other random rich person did the same no one will care because they never claimed to be socialists or wore shirts that said "make the rich pay". and to profit off of an ideology and then not giving back is pretty shitty. also honestly his response to the whole thing is even worse, gotta say for a capitalist he doesn't know how money works.

people made fun of that girl who wore the "eat the rich" shirt because she supported Bernie who advocates for taxing the rich yet she moved to a state where 1.) taxes are incredibly low and 2.) tax evasion is incredibly easy. a 2 million dollar apartment in texas where she lives alone vs a 3 million dollar apartment in LA where he lives with his entire family is quite different, i would say. who gets to decide what is an appropriate amount for a house? how do you know that he doesn't donate money? he advocates for getting rid of the system that allows people to make millions at the expense of exploitation of the working class. he earned his money through no such means, by voluntary donations people have made and through adverts. how exactly is that hypocritical?

I just really don't like watching millionaire podcasters/livestreamers, they don't need my attention and I prefer smaller communities, anyways. A lot of valid criticism is aimed at larger "leftists" who talk big about things like wealth redistribution while living in $3 million dollar homes. The majority of humans on earth will never see a million dollars in their lifetime. His fans harassed said disabled person for weeks.)

Also called someone a r*tard for criticizing him (within the last year) I’ve always found him to be disingenuous. He’s in his 30s, living with his parents (who come from a wealthy family), and he’s incredibly privileged but whenever someone confronts him about it, he gets defensive (“I came here from turkey as a kid” is used as a deflection of any criticism about his status). His lack of action (doesn’t donate or prop up any mutual aid funds the way you expect a leftist with a big platform to do) says more than his words. But if you question him, you’re a liberal attacking him.
@bobymcgee3 жыл бұрын
Also not to mention he got rich off of talking about working class struggles, from a desk at home. No ones asking Hassan to live in a dirt shack, but it definitely says something about him as a person how he uses his millions to live in a gentrified neighborhood. As someone who has always been poor and who is a leftist, seeing all these popular, wealthy youtubers sticking up for Hassan and calling him a “good person” is annoying but also expected.
@hollyseymour11493 жыл бұрын
if he’s actually a socialist, why doesn’t he buy a cheaper house and donate the remaining money to a charity? three million dollars is a lot of money, and a three million dollar house is not necessary. he should redistribute his wealth if that’s what he truly believes in. if he doesn’t actually believe in that, that’s fine, but he shouldn’t be performative.
@noahryland45183 жыл бұрын
if hasan is principled in his beliefs, he would use that money to give mutual aid rather than buy a massive house like that. that's not to say he shouldn't be able to buy a house at all, but so many of these youtubers and streamers are making out as if people who are class conscious are just being "stupid leftists" while literally ignoring the points we are making. its not the fact that he owns a house, its the fact that he payed that much money for a house when he could have utilised it to support the causes he believes in. He has every right to do what he wants with his money, but he just isn't as principled as he says he is. you can't have both

the hasan thing is so annoying to me because like, i KNOW that the issue is not just “socialism is when no house,” i KNOW the conversation is more about how much he does or doesn’t donate or contribute to mutual aid, i know people argue that he’s making the money off of other people because he spends a lot of time reacting to videos, i.e. rather than give the original creators the adsense money they pay hasan to literally just press play on his stream while he gets up to go pee for like 2/3 of the video, i GET that. i DO. it still just…. isn’t a big deal. like he’s not actively discouraging his viewers from giving back to content creators, i think he makes up for it with just HOW MUCH he streams, and YES. a $3M house in LA is not “Rich” the way jeff bezos or warren buffet or even the fucking kombucha guy are rich. I know you, rhetorical twitter person i’m referring to, might think “wow shows how much you know about being poor,” but it really is not significant at all. the fact that it isn’t significant is a part of what bothers me about capitalism. we REALLY COULD all have nice houses and resources, the resources are literally there and capitalism is the only thing that pries it out of are hands. that, and yes, inflation is really just that ridiculous right now. he’s STILL not like, the owner or mover of capital in any significant way. he’s not like, moving stocks and shit around or like giving anyone the say of who can or can’t have access to things. he’s just getting a nice fucking house. like it just goes to show how much people still don’t understand just how astronomically, impossibly-inconceivable the amount of wealth accrued by the 1% is. $3M is a LOT for you or me, but it’s absolutely nothing in the broader scheme of things. and another thing about his participation or lackthereof in mutual aid: he’s such a high profile individual that his presence would put them at risk. like anarchists who are doing that work have to stay in the shadows a lot of the time because cops will literally take them from their homes in the middle of the night for bogus charges to get them to stop. it’s dangerous for a high profile person like him to get involved in direct action. he keeps that private for a reason. like that kinda thinking shows either a lack of foresight or exposes your lack of action outside of twitter. and like it or not, you need propagandists. you need people educating and dedicating their time to it the way he does. even if he’s kind of a dick sometimes (and he is, i like the guy but he can be a dick from time to time), but he’s an important figure for the left and it’s so fucking reductive to dismiss all of it as just “he’s just a fake ass grifter and shouldn’t have a platform” like being a leftist isn’t a competition of who knows what it’s really like to be poor in america “the most,” it really isn’t. you don’t have to like hasan, just like you don’t need to like contrapoints or whomever you deem a “hypocritical leftist” or whatever. and yes, their relative wealth should mean that their experiences and views should be taken with a grain of salt. i like contrapoints, but a lot of her takes i DO consider with a grain of salt because her access to academia and money will shape those things. i just engage with her and hasan’s content critically for that reasons, as everyone should. you don’t have to like them, but trying to invalidate everything they’ve done or try to tell people that they aren’t worth listening to or dismissing them as grifters is so obnoxious and counterproductive. let him have his house, jfc

it’s classic twitter brain-poisoning. i wish people on there would realize that the format of the website is fundamentally designed to use psychological tricks to keep you angry and volatile, because that leads to sensationalism and therefor engagement. i wish twitter leftists would have a bit more self awareness about the fact, because the constant like trash-slinging and “if you support X then you do not care about marginalized people, you are a fake and a liberal, and you are not wanted here” type virtue signaling (yes, buzzword, i know) is literally what the platform WANTS you to do so you don’t get anything ACTUALLY MEANINGFUL accomplished. twitter bad, Yes Actually™️.

Yeah sorry but buying a 3 million dollar home is not "trying to survive under capitalism" lol it's 3 million dollars. Of course Jake Paul and Ricegum don't deserve their extremely expensive homes but neither does someone who makes all their money from sitting around and playing video games all day.
@elizabeth-bs3ox3 жыл бұрын
@ Does him playing video games not largely contribute to how much money he's making? 3 million dollars will get you a lot farther in Ohio than LA, but like I said, it's still 3 million dollars. And he's by far not the richest person living there but he's absolutely not middle class either-- the house is 3,800 square feet, that's gigantic. I'm not saying he's on the same level as multibillionaires but that's still no excuse. As long as people are still homeless and starving, no one deserves to live in a home that expensive and large. Not him, not other streamers and influencers-- no one.

i mean most ppl making a thing out of the Hasan house are probably just politically opposed to his ideology and using that to score points against him, but at the same time if i was a Hasan viewer i could see how it would feel kind of silly to listen to a rich guy talk about how much he hates rich ppl (i don't watch the guy i'm just basing that off of the pic i saw of him wearing an "eat the rich t-shirt" .... which is pretty rich lol.

exactly, i dont watch him either, but this whole thing seems pretty hypocritical. If people expect him to practice what he preaches i can see why his fans are upset lol.

His fans gave him the money, leftism isnt about saying that being poor is good, he doesnt preach that people shouldnt have homes, being a succesful enough leftist advocate to provide a stable home for his family in an expensive area does not equate him to oligarchs who make billions in a single year off of over worked and underpaid employes and use that power and influence to lobby for more austerity and instabillity for working people.

suggestion to the first person getting advice, depending on the kind of place you live and how accepting it is, try talking to your teachers or even admin, if they're not shitty you might be able to be seated far away and not have to do any group work with her

I mean, as a Socialist myself, I find it pretty hypocritical that someone who claims to share my beliefs would spend 3Mil on a house. You can buy a completely reasonable house for less than that. And the excess money could be used for much better causes, even for just for yourself, like food and other living expenses for an extended period. But really, if you actually despise capitalism, you would probably put it towards your community or a charity.

I get people being disappointed in someone who as the privilege to spend millions of dollars on a home. Especially if they do talk about the harm in capitalism and doesn't spread the wealth. You don't have to move to the most expensive place in America to have a nice home. Especially as a streamer, you can do your job from anywhere. Some of the most active people in community are still struggling to make it, so it really doesn't make much of a difference to me if you talk about "leftist anticapitalist things" if your actions don't reflect that.
