Oh man ...Luke... like he’s up there as one of, if not the, most disliked characters in my opinion. Seriously, his whining, his lack of any interesting dialogue whatsoever ... I mean he’s pretty much saved multiple times, a lot more than he saved others.... Leah - saves him / Obi Wan - saves him, not once, no, twice? Nope , how many? Well at least 4 before the Death Star, then his sacrifice against Vader - immediately AFTER said sacrifice “Run Luke” Force Ghost Whisper - then again in the space battles / Solo - many times including using his own lightsaber to keep him alive in the snow / R2D2 - I’m gonna let this one slide cos if you haven’t been saved by R2D2 you are not a legit Rebel/Republic hero / I’m sure there are more too ...... then there’s the whole looking crap at dueling and lack of force power abilities (ok I get that it was made years before tech like what we saw in the PT and especially ST was available for the OT but still... I was never impressed). Even in the ST he was bigged up all through Force Awakens - then the attempt at humour in Last Jedi, and low and behold he is as whiney as ever. We never see him battle or if even his capabilities have increased since return of the Jedi ! @@MT-UK The ST has no excuses for being a shit trilogy and ruining Luke and as for the OT, unlike Mary Sue Rey, Luke realistically was not able to learn all the Jedi force powers in just a few years and without a proper master for most of it he was pretty weak by the time he reached the final battle on the second death star. The slow fight against Darth Vader was because Luke was a newbie while Vader was testing Luke and not going full force. Luke is one of the most loved characters because he was just an ordinary kid who lived a normal life and it all changed when the mysterious wizard came to propel his life into excitement and adventure, obviously someone normal kid isn't gonna be the most heroic character ever. What should have happened was that the ST should have followed something closer to what George Lucas wanted to do since we would've been able to see Luke in full glory.

I think that if they had gone to fight Palpatine first, the outcome would have been very different. First of all, Palpatine was in Coruscant at the time, where he had his personal Shock Trooper Legion and his Imperial Guards with him, and the 501st was also likely nearby due to their recent attack on the Jedi Temple. As arrogant as Palpatine was, he would have been able to see that he couldn't defeat both Obi-Wan and Yoda together and Anakin was on Mustafar at the time, too far away to be able to help. Therefore, after a short duel where Palpatine would taunt Yoda for bringing Obi-Wan along, he would say that "Lord Vader is on his way" and then Yoda would call his bluff, saying that he knew Anakin was way out on Mustafar. While dueling, Palpatine would carefully work his way out of the throne room and into the open space in front of the Galactic Senate building. At this point, he would quickly call for an entire legion of clones to join him in defeating the two Jedi Masters. As the clones arrived in their LAAT Gunships, Yoda and Obi-Wan would quickly realize it was a losing battle, and would seek to escape. Simultaneously throwing a powerful force push in unison, Yoda and Obi-Wan would use the opportunity to steal a parked speeder and escape into the Coruscant cityscape. Realizing that nearly every clone on the planet would be searching for them, the two Jedi masters would attempt to find transport off world but knowing that they couldn't do it legitimately for fear of being identified, they would have to go to the criminal underworld to either find transport off world or purchase a ship from black market dealers. After escaping from Coruscant, the two Jedi would regroup aboard the rebel blockade runner and plot their next move.

Obi Wan and Vader in episode 4 clearly talk about a prior duel and Darth Vader saying "Now I am the master!" The context of the insult of Obi Wan to Vader "If you strike me down I shall come back more powerful than you can possibly imagine and Darth Vader's anger reaction to it" The trilogy established that they had a showdown.

If Yoda and Obi-Wan both would have gone to fight Anakin, they could not have concealed themselves due to their combined presence in the force. Anakin would have sensed it and would have not been surprised by them and gotten irrationally angry (like he was when got jealous of Obi-Wan and Padme together). Knowing that he had already committed to the Dark side and that he knew he couldn't beat them together, he came up with a plan since he was one of the most clever generals when it came to fighting and strategizing in the clone wars. So, when Padme comes down from the ship, he goes running to her and cries that he couldn't believe what he had done, asking for redemption. When Obi-Wan and Yoda come out, he begs for forgiveness. Yoda, not completely giving in to this, takes his lightsaber and orders him to return back with them at once. As they are about to leave, Palpatine's ship soars above as lighting strikes in the background sky. As he comes down, he begins to start a battle with master Yoda and Obi-Wan. As they focus on Palpatine, Yoda and Obi-Wan forget to notice that Anakin has already forced pulled his lightsaber. Joining in the battle, an epic 2 v 2 battle ensues. However, this time, Anakin, despite not having the higher ground, bests Obi-Wan with the help of palpatine (who is fighting yoda as well as attacking obi-wan with force lighting to distract him). Striking him down and completely overpowered by his hate, Anakin goes for master yoda. The story could go two ways: 1) Yoda, who using this to an advantage, tricks him and force pushes him in the lava. As the Emporer desperate to save his apprentice pulls him out, yoda decides he is no match for them and leaves at once with Padme and goes into isolation. The story follows suite, but with no Obi-Wan and a stronger Darth Vader with intact limbs (but similar burns). 2) Anakin and Palpatine overpower Yoda who fights valiantly but looses at their combined power. Anakin becomes the most powerful sith ever with his full body and force abilities.

Here's what I think should happen: Yoda and Obi-Wan stood in silence. What they had just witnessed was burned into their minds. The two conversed until a verdict was determined. They would brave Anakin together. Anikan watched as his wive's ship descended onto the landing platform. The ship's hatch opened and Padme walked out. As she tried to persuade Anakin to come back to the light, Obi-Wan and Yoda emerged from the ship's entrance. Anakin screamed at Padme in anger. Her body was flung into the air as Anakin strangled the life out of it. In a fit of pure rage, he released Padme's body and flung himself at the Jedi masters. Flashes of light erupted from the collision. Obi-Wan blocked any jab or swing from Anakin by applying his perfected lightsaber style. Yoda somersaulted around the fallen knight, pushing his offensive. Anakin, frustrated, guided a force push at the whizzing green ball. Yoda saw his chance. He bobbed under Anakin and flourished his lightsaber upwards. The blade of light pierced through Anakin's lightsaber, rendering it worthless. In Anakin's state of shock, Obi-Wan was able to efficiently cut Anakin across the legs, debilitating him. Yoda knew that Sidious would be arriving soon. He could sense the dark lord's presence growing stronger. Yoda and Obi-Wan elevated the screaming Anakin off the ground and into the air. They rushed towards Padme's shuttle, pausing along the way to retrieve Padme. Obi-Wan fired the ship up before the hatch was even finished closing. The Jedi focused on applying the force to propel the ship forward but they were still not quick enough. The silhouette of Palpatine's shuttle loomed on the horizon. A blast of light emerged from the far-away ship. Time seemed to slow down as the missile inched closer. Obi-Wan, who was accustomed to flying agile fighters, turned too late. The missile impacted against the ship with a bang. The craft spiraled down to the lava pits beneath, leaving a trail of smoke behind. The knights were knocked to the ground as the lights went out. Yoda scrambled to get up in the darkness. His only thought was to slow the ship. He closed his eyes as he concentrated on stalling the ships fall. Yoda felt the heat on his face as the vessel closed in on the lake of molten rock. In one last desperate endeavor, Yoda force grabbed his lightsaber and flung himself at the ceiling. His lightsaber whirled wildly as it neared the metal, cutting a circle into the sheet. He landed on the charred rock beside the pool. He was able to pull the other passengers through the opening right as the ship began sinking into the lava. Obi-Wan struggled to get to his feet. His body had third-degree burns covering it. He unclipped his lightsaber from his belt and positioned himself into a fighting stance. Palpatine's shuttle pushed closer. A figure draped in darkness descended from it and floated down onto the ground. The shadow released to crimson blades from each side. The combatants could hear the figure's far-away maniacal laughter. Suddenly the figure started moving closer, zigzagging left and right in an act of perfected force speed. Anakin laboriously uttered, " He's coming. You can't resist him. I've seen his power. You will truly see the full power of the Darkside." With this, the shadow zeroed in on the two masters. It let out a screech as it jumped over Obi-Wan in a dazzling spiral of scarlet. The figure hammered at Ob-Wan until the Jedi was on his knees. The figure drew back his swords of fire in a cross and swung them forward in a precise arc to decapitate the mere mortal before him. Yoda blocked on each side with both Jedi's lightsabers before Sidious could finish the job. "Jedi fool." Palpatine snarled. With this, he deactivated his sabers only to activate them again at the accurate moment. Two holes were burned in the center of Obi-Wan's forehead. For a millisecond Yoda just stood there, shocked. He recovered quickly but not quick enough. Sidious took advantage of this temporary lapse in the grandmaster's concentration. Violet lightning escaped from the dark lord's fingers, immersing Yoda. The Jedi used tutiminus in an effort to shield himself but the lightning had already done its damage. Smoke billowed from Yoda's charred robes. A ring of fire erupted around his short green body. In a last-ditch bid to delay the Sith, Yoda force pushed Anakin into the lake of lava. Anakin screamed in agony as his body was engulfed in flames but Palpatine paid his apprentices cries no heed. Palpatine signaled for his clones to close in. Palpatine stepped towards the Jedi slowly, laughing gleefully. "I genuinely believed you would be more of a challenge. The fact that the weak fool Kenobi was here was grievously disappointing. I suppose that just goes to show the weakness of the Jedi. Any closing words old man?" Yoda coughed. "I guess not. You shall die a torturous death." Sidious smiled as he pulled Yoda up with the force as blue energy escaped through Yoda's eyes and mouth. Sidious bathed in the energy, the intensity of the lightning surrounding his hands growing. Yoda's body fell to the rocky ground. "You are of no value to me anymore," Palpatine declared as he launched his lightsaber swelling with electricity at the Jedi grandmaster. The saber formed a perfect pinwheeling motion in the air as it narrowed in on Yoda. As it sliced through Yoda's throat the force lightning scorched the body. All that was left of the little green creature was a blackened skeleton. Darth Sidious turned away as he ordered his clones to retrieve Darth Vader. There was no hope left for the galaxy.

Check out this what if scenario: what if anakin didn’t kill the younglings? Like, at the time of killing the younglings, seeing their faces of fear and sadness, and well...being children, anakin just couldn’t bring himself to do it and instead told them to hide or run away to make it look like they were killed.
