@@seneca983 Kylo Ren is definitely a Dark Sider, don't get me wrong but Vader drowns himself in his failures to remember everything wrong with him every day, his suit and injuries always causing him excruciating pain and to top it all of he meditates to increase his power in the Dark Side. Kylo Ren is comparatively a child. By himself, Kylo's lethality lies in his utter unpredictability. He is the inherent chaos of the Dark Side, where Darth Vader was it's dominating power. Still, "calm" was too generous a word. It'd be more accurate to describe Vader as "empty" or just barely annoyed enough to Force Choke the Admiral.

I wasn't alive for the first film but I did see the other two in the theaters. George Lucas truly knew how to build a character that was feared. Darth Vader's powers were slowly leaked as the films progressed. Even though I was very young, I remember literal gasps in the audience when we finally found out who Luke's real father was....it was cinematic history. Looking at Star Wars today...the only thing people gasp at is how poorly written it is. The Disney abortion takes everything good about the films and destroys it. Rey could have been a good character had Disney taken the time to show even the slightest reverence to the series. She doesn't struggle, she doesn't need training, she literally beats Kylo Ren, a fully trained Sith the first time she picks up a lightsaber. Kylo Ren is so laughably weak and cardboard thin that I could see a group of high schoolers creating the character. Hell, the only thing Disney has done right so far was to show Vader rampaging in Rogue One. That scene paints what a Sith Lord would likely do against his enemies.
@nohints5 жыл бұрын
@Sinn0100 100% spot on mate. I haven't seen 9 yet, but I'm not holding out much hope. The fact that Kylo Ren (descendant of the Skywalkers, trained by a Jedi master and Sith master for years) is trashed by a rando woman with ZERO training (twice) is so retarded that I don't even know what to do. Remember when Anakin trained for TEN YEARS and was still an apprentice? MaRey sure doesn't. (That would be the patriarchy.) But even this is nothing compared to the ludicrous insult of what happened to Luke in 8. ***SPOILERS*** This useless weakling Kylo is nothing compared to MaRey, yet Luke dies to DISTRACT him, not even injure him! And Luke doesn't even get to die honorably, in battle! Fcuk you Kathleen. But yeah the Rogue One Vader scenes are some of my favourite in the entire series lol.

2 things- First, Vader was right about the Death Star. "This technological monstrosity you've built pales in significance next to the power of the Force." The Death Star was destroyed by a force sensitive pilot using Jedi or Force Focus to bullseye 2 proton torpedoes down a 2 meter shaft- indeed, the most powerful weapon ever created was destroyed by the force. Second, they need a fan made caption in that scene in the movie where Motti first starts choking with the caption reading thusly "It was at this moment that he knew he had f*cked up!"

Let us not forget the shot would have been impossible if not for the force being used. It was an exhaust port, as in it blew out air from the core. More importantly, it was THE exhaust port, and about two meters long. Air pushed out parallel to the Death Star, therefore there is a bend for the exhaust port, of 90 degrees, and pumped out all the exhaust from the furl source of perhaps one of, if not the, largest engine ever. Correct me if I am wrong, but the core should be producing exhaust as it burns up fuel in order to run the generators, which are massive, to power the entire station. If not for the force, the torpedoes should have been pushed back, or at least hit the back of the bend in the port, and created a hole, possibly taking out the top of the port. You would need at least two ships, both being orthogonal to one another, to take down the ship, one to destroy the port, the other to shoot a torpedo down into the core.
@someguy77035 жыл бұрын
Don't forget it was an exaustion pipe of which everything that enters the hole would be blown out and the end of the exaustion pipe is bent becouse of a protective thing over it. The force is just too powerful to mess with.

The issue here is the inconsistency between the "old" Star Wars and the "new". Remember - Jedi are almost forgotten and the force seen as religious dogma at best, and as tricks at worst. This was before later movies made Vader out to be a constantly force-choking baddie that every imperial officer knew of and understood. More to the point, the scene was a part of the movie (along with Han's comment on "hokey religions" and Obi-Wan's telling of the recent history) showing that the Force was all but forgotten, and the Jedi and Sith passed into legend. Motti simply didn't believe that Vader had "magic" any more than we would believe that a local priest could call down god's wrath with a lightning from a clear sky (or any sky for that matter). It is kind of odd, of course, considering that Motti should have remembered the clone wars and the fall of the jedi order, but then all that wasn't thought out yet. So, inconsistency in storytelling. ;-)

Not everyone has seen a Jedi or know what they can and were capable of doing before the clone wars and even lesser know what a Sith even is. Which brings up a good point how many people in the galaxy know about the history of the past. Like there were no museums on Coruscant or holo shows that talked about the galactic past on a galaxy wide broadcast? in layman's terms Star wars in universe the History channel.

at 2:50 or so, it just awesome to think of the immense size of the death star as our narrarator mentions how they meet in the main conference room. look at the ships outside even with elevators, think how long it took to get from one corner to another in the death star

I know at the time they didn't know if there would be anymore movies after A New Hope but I would have loved to see Motti as the commandant on the second Death Star. A more humble and submissive man who saw the error in thinking Darth Vader was a joke....

To think that some 40+ years ago George Lucas and/or whoever else was involved just wrote the whole thing as "let's have one guy get lippy with Vader so he can demonstrate his choke thing".

Back in the 90s, I wrote a star wars fan fiction centered around Thrawn, called Champion of the Empire. In the above scene with Motti, I wrote Thrawn into the it. He was right behind Tarken and Vader when a private called attention. He wasn't that loud, because only Thrawn stopped to read the new reports from Tantooine, while Tarken and Vader entered the room interrupting Tag. Thrawn, upon reading the updated report, dismissed the junior officer, and took his seat at the table. Upon Thrawn's entry, Tarken threw him a glare and that followed him to his seat, while settling his officers. "The regional governors now have direct control of their territories." Once Thrawn took his seat, Tarken resumed. "Fear will keep the local systems in line, fear of this battlestation." Motti then interrupted Thrawn before he could relate the updated search for the DS plans.

How do so few people just years after the jedi's collapse not really know about the force??
@VanTesla5 жыл бұрын
The Galaxy was advance in many ways and archaic at the same time. The archaic came from information transferring was lacking behind most things, information corruption and manipulation was high, and most living beings in the Galaxy didn't know what the Force actually was about. During the thousand years of peace the Jedi where in whole only in the 10,000+ range which compared to Old Republic era is dramatically less. Most only know very basic stuff about Jedi in that they where warrior monks, philosophers, and later military leaders. By the time of the Clone Wats most of the Senate representatives didn't know what Sith where or the difference between them and Jedi. This in part was also a failure on the Jedi. In their efforts to stop and eradicate the Dark Side and Sith they would publicly redact all information or knowledge which in turn helped the Sith out in the shadows. It's also how Palpatine was able to end the legislative laws that prevented Sith and Force users from entering politics during the time of Darth Bane. It's also a way he set up the idea that the Jedi would try to take over since it meant after a thousand years they could have political power as well. The common belief during and after the Clone Wars was that Jedi had some kind of foresight and where skilled to an inhuman level with their signature lightsaber. It's possible Motti never actually witnessed the feats of Jedi and to many after the Jedi where denounced and hated all the amazing feats where believed by public as Jedi propaganda.

@@austinchandler3079 The other thing to take note of during and after the Clone Wars is Palpatine was propagating the lies of the Jedi and their false religion of the Force. Anyone who was found Force Sensitive after the Rise of the Empire where seen as like demonic beings or witches. Family, close friends, neighbors, and etc where rewarded for bringing forth Force Sensitive and Jedi while those that didn't would be slaughtered by said Jedi/Force Sensitive according to Imperial News. Motti was a somewhat younger brash moron compared to his peers in the same room who had more previous contact with the Jedi and Force Users. Motti also was the worse kind of ass kisser to the Emperor in regard in believing the lies without actually having any thought put into it. In that room he would been seen as the most inexperience and new generation of Imperial Leadership that only cared about themselves by betraying others and appease the Emperor.

Might be worth mentioning that despite it being only 20 years since the fall of the Jedi, the limited exposure to the force that people would have had would all have been from the light-side users, the Jedi, as the Sith were still in hiding. This violent application of the force likely would still surprise anyone who had only previously seen the force applied by a Jedi.

You gotta love a guy who does his own wetwork. Vader is a real hands on manager (that was a pun, for he doesn't actually have to touch anyone in order to force choke). He doesn't stay on the Executive ship. He goes down on the transport, boards the rebel ship, and demands results. He goes down to the Hoth base himself. I love that about him. Vader does his own wetwork.

This was so early on that it seems to me that Vader didn’t have the same high position that we see in empire strikes back. I don’t think Vader had any authority over the admirals and generals as he was just the enforcer until governor Tarkin went down with the Death Star and it seemed that this allowed Vader to take his place and do as he so pleased! But yes he didn’t know the power of force nor understand it. I found it interesting that tarkin ordered Vader to release him, so he wasn’t in any real danger it would seem.
