Hi, just wanted to clarify. By breathing less do you mean less frequent but deep breaths, or just less volume of air per breath. Common sense would tell the former but you're phrasing is a little confusing.

hi @hritikmehta8566 - thanks for your message. The most important thing is that the breath is natural, which means that the inhalation's beginning and throughout the inhalation is diaphragmatic. That's what they mean by deep breathing because the diaphragm is deep inside your body, and then in terms of the amount of air, the most important thing is the 'minute ventilation' is reduced rather than increased. 'Minute ventilation' is the product (multiplication) between the average volume per breath and the average number of breaths per minute. So, breathing less doesn't necessarily mean fewer breaths per minute or making smaller breaths, but rather the multiplication of the volume per breath and the number of breaths per minute. In this case, one full breath of 5 L of air every minute is the same minute. ventilation as 10 little breaths of 500 mL per breath.

@@SimonBorgOlivier Thanks for the reply! I think i understand what you mean now, rather than frequency or volume of breath we should focus on keeping a steady natural rate of airflow rather than being deliberately slow or fast is that it?

should we always exhale passively? I've read that longer exhales tend to active the parasympathetic nervous system and slow heart rate so I've developed this habit of forcefully blowing air out to the max each time. I'm starting to think that its very detrimental. Am I lowering my co2 too much?
