It is the entire point and has saved by crystal on more than one occasion. I also now use an Omega style dual deployant clasp on leather bands so it never falls off if the buckle come undone. And for Nato I use an elastic nato with paratrooper Marine Natioale style hook. All three are "loops" like a stainless steel bracelet without the weight..

My question is if this strap requires you to remove a spring bar anyway, it doesn't pass below the watch so you don't get the"flush" look of a NATO strap, and you don't get any extra insurance in case of failed spring bars... why not just buy a regular old 2 piece nylon strap instead of this? Criticism of the NATO strap is totally unjustified. Cutting the extra strap or reworking the strap like shown here defeats the purpose of keeping the watch away from the wrist to allow ventilation and lessen sweating. Also the watch can be stowed by reverse looping and it provides substantial cover for the front and back of the watch when kept with other items in the bag or pocket. It's the ultimate utilitarian strap.

The biggest benefit of a nato strap is that even if one spring bar fails the watch is still attached to the arm. This was the original use of the nato strap. The best watch is useless if it falls from your wrist, especially in the dark or under water. That’s why a lot of military watches have no spring bars like the Tudor Pelagos FXD.

My problem with NATOs is not the double layer between the watch and my skin, but that fold that is made on the side with the excess strap. I think it looks very bulky and ugly.

I still don’t get it why did he remove the spring bar?? Also it’s just a longer piece of nato, why so expensive and patent?? It’s just longer I don’t see the innovation.

Ohh.. so "all I have to do" is just hunt down & order a spare keeper loop somehow and then sew it onto a perfectly fine strap, then have to remove & replace a spring bar every time I want to swap the strap between watches. 😶

Honestly I never felt like my judgement was impaired after alcohol. Motor skills? Of course, but judgement for serious stuff is there. I might be more open do to extroverted things but never I'd willingly endanger someone else or myself. That's why "I was drunk" should never be accepted, it's just a convenient excuse for irresponsible people.

Unless you're wearing a military watch natos make watches look cheap and nasty; no matter how much the watch is worth.

But that's half the point. It makes the watch functional in demanding environments. Who cares what other people think of your watch?

Isn’t that a single layer nato not the double layer he shows at first?
