Removing the centre console is not as simple as you show. It needs to be slid to the right slightly to disengage the projecting 'catch' . If you pull directly up it will get broken, which I assume is the case with the one in your car. They are really easy to damage, I have not seen many that are still intact. The catch helps to secure the console firmly so that it has no wobbly movement. Keep up the good work!

Hi. Could you please tell me, is it possible to use a transmission from a newer Saab to replace one on a 92 900S 4 door sedan, automatic to manual? Thanks! :)

Hi Lee, does the engine produce more power with the bore and larger pistons?
@LeeKelsoАй бұрын
Not enough to make it worthwhile if there's no other need to rebuild the engine. A much better result came from the T5 conversion. This replaces the existing ignition and fuel management system with what's used in the SAAB 9000 and other models. Here's the kit I used: www.modernclassicsaab.com/products/p/classic-900-trionic-5-t5-conversion-kit. Here's more info on how it helps: eeuroparts.com/blog/saab-900-trionic-5-conversion-kits-reach-end-of-production/

Thanks for the video Lee. I have watched and used a few of your other ones. I bought a 1991 900 Turbo in April 2023 and the roof was very shredded. I bought a roof from the convertible car guys and myself and my daughter installed. It fit perfectly and made a huge difference to the car.

Awesome for taking that job into your own hands. I've never done it, and frankly find it a little intimidating. I have another 900 CV that has a good rear window, but torn top. Fortunately, I have a spare top assembly in great shape waiting to bolt back in place. Somehow changing the entire assembly seems less challenging than all the upholstery work.
@LeeKelso3 ай бұрын
I was lucky enough to have a spare sitting around the shop, but you can still buy a new window/canvas assembly from several vendors: www.convertibletopguys.com/convertible/584/1986-94-Saab-900-amp;-900S-amp;-SE

Next owner might appreciate the history behind the wheels. Google search: " paid n full Saab" if you're not aware of what the previous owner was going for. That top fix will surprise you with how easy it is. Id be happy to run up and help one sunny Saturday. I got a new motorcycle and need a few good destinations for day trips.

Yeah, it's been a while. Several projects have accumulated so there's plenty to be done. In addition to this 91, my 94 Ruby-colored 900 automatic turbo has needs, and the 94 CE T-5 conversion is getting a wideband 02 sensor to help it run better. Plus, a 2002 BMW 325 convertible has joined the 2001 Z3 in the German fleet. I'll be busy.

Thanks Lee! I'm going to install the Mitsubishi turbo to replace the Garrett on my '89 Turbo Convertible. Is there a gasket between the turbo and the housing that connects to the exhaust, I don't seem to see one in your video and haven't seen any online. Thanks!

I had the same question a few weeks ago when I wanted to replace the slave cylinder on my convertible. I took a saw and cut the cylinder in half as I wanted to replace it anyway. You can try pushing the pressure plate against the cylinder and using a screwdriver to push the cylinder against the pressure plate and lever the whole thing up or to the side at the same time. The KZbinr RETROCAR STYLE made a very detailed video when he changed the clutch and the cylinder. You can see there that it is simply laborious. But it works.

Very sad to hear what's happened with Demis, and his beloved friend Todd, trying to save what's been collected through so many years. I really hope that the Saab community gets together and save all the golden parts, and rent a store to keep them for the future entusiasts.

Great interview and Saab story, both of this int’l couple and their excellent cars. While I’m a convertible girl myself, hatchbacks have always appealed to me for their versatility as have wagons. By the way, if you haven’t seen it, an early ‘80s 900 turbo (rose quartz?) appeared in the movie Air this year. Upon closer view, it appears to be a 4-door, not 5, but I’d love to know who owns this car.
