Lol😅 I like that, "something in the cosmos". Ain't that the truth.... You weld something in one place, then weld something else on and the first part changes its location. And attention to detail is what makes the difference.

I may have a good advice on body gaps is just to use a sharpen #2 pencil and follow the line for adjusting the hinge. but your showing on this is that the AMD metal can be offset that need cutting and weld to make perfect.
@HoosierGarage5 күн бұрын
Not sure I follow. The fender to cowl and front of door is set where it all lines up It along with bottom.gap and fit to A-pillar leaves the quarter as the culprit.

Hello Adam, Great job bringing the Duster back to life! Just wondering if the gap could have been caused by those hand made Dollie’s since the body is not setting on a flat and level fixture/frame jig? It’s just a thought or did you make sure those dollies were exactly level? Your response please?
@HoosierGarage5 күн бұрын
They sat on a floor as level as what its on now. They anchor where the suspensiom connects..That is key. Honestly i think its an adjustment overlook on my part when I started nailing the panel in. It seems to have some flex on the new panel in the jamb.

This fix is alot more difficult than you made it appear....Nice job!
@Bill340s5 күн бұрын
Yes, difficult not to warp the panel when welding or warp it when grinding. And if you grind make metal too thin and try to get every pin hole out, weld grind weld grind and end up with paper thin metal and blowing holes in it each time you chase a pin hole. Not easy at all and armatures can get into big trouble attempting.

I feel your pain. I'm in the middle of paneling a 1998 Astro van and there's hardly a beam or seam that are consistent for the backing furring strips. Everything is custom design, cut and install. With the price of decent paneling, I'm using red paper for making templates, then cardboard for final fit template then cut and in the paneling. It's some work but I enjoy the challenge.

Is it necessary to have that much rust on trim screws though 🤔. Advantage of doing what your doing is it lets you know ahead of time what you lost or didn’t have before you really need it. For sure if car wasn’t complete when you got it. May I suggest you go to Eastwood or harbor freight and get a vibrator. Much easier than sand blasting bolts and small pieces.

I like cars like this one to be as close to stock as posible myself. I also think cars this Cool should be preserved, or at least not modified in a manor that it can't be easily returned back to stock. I'm still keeping my patience Adam to see how aewsome she's going to be when it's all completed, can't weight, but I guess I'll just have to... Lol So I managed to get both the rocker panels all rebuilt and looking nice on my Grand Wagoneer this summer. I really hoped I could get more done on it but I'm so darn busy fixing cars for everyone else in the summer. Because I still don't have a dang garage to work out of, I've got to get as much money built up as possible to get me through the winter months. Ugh, here come the heating bills.....😮😢😅 lol
