Greetings from Calcutta, India. Thank you for this superb video for balancing. I am 80 years old and had undergone hip surgery 3 times and am with an implanted hip since last few months. The surgeon had advised me core strenthening exercises which I am doing with physiotherapist. It includes only three or four balancing exercises (standing on the toes, leg flexion, mini squat, and another exercise which I do not remember the name, but which is raising the left and right feet in keft and right direction. I was operated upon on the right side (right hip), I cannt raise my left foot (with right foot it is quite okay). I cannot walk properly, if attempt to do it I shuffle. Please addvise me what other exercises I will have to do in order to walk properly. I am moved by your long concluding remarks, which are rare in this type of videos. Will I be able to walk again as a human being? I want to regain my walking capability. Please reply to my comments as early as possible, I am eager to hear from you. You voice is so good like a western film hero.

Yes , something strong, even on floor. Engage core muscles which support the lower back.

VERY HELPFUL,THANK YOU. I was seeing a PT who led me to do exercise #1 over 3 sessions, with instructions to do at home. After 2 weeks of no improvement at home during his vacation,I was so discouraged,I never went back. 8 months on, I am no better but I never attempted these again. Your repeating it may take weeks or months is sad news, but encouraging--how can anything so simple take so long. I get almost no exercise, ( partly due to balance), so I take to heart what you said. I am about to start over after breakfast. Thank you. Heel to toe is very hard, but backing up or turning around quickly is the worst.

I appreciate this video. Thank you, Doug. I was so happy to find that I can do side stepping at the kitchen counter longer than you said! I'll come back here and keep watching this one. All of the exercises look safe for me.

I've just found your channel, and it feels like exactly what I've been looking for. I'm 35 and was recently diagnosed with MS. I had a relapse (or possibly multiple ones, we're not sure). That's when the diagnosis came in, and I started to lose the ability to walk properly. I am already on DTM and definitely feeling better, I started recovering. My main issues are balance and stability. Are these exercises also beneficial for MS patients?

Hello! Yes, they are ideal for clients with MS.

I like standing on one leg whilst brushing my teeth in the morning. The tooth brush runs for two minutes with 30 second signals of progress. As I stand on one foot for 30 seconds I use the opposite hand for brushing and trade back and forth every 30 seconds. Apparently it's building balance confidence and I feel my core muscles doing their part as well. Almost a standing plank.
