I remember when the “And 1” players were making their way into the league. And the “Professor” used to have all these INSANE dribbling and passing techniques he would use in the “And 1” videos, but he was NEVER allowed to use them in an NBA game. He learned and played NBA, fundamental, basketball, and that’s what he played 99% of the time. And after YEARS of playing for numerous teams, he FINALLY pulled out 1% of his “street ball” moves, when he was on a championship team, and well on his way to a title. Nowadays, he would have just been a street balling, NBA player, and never would have had the career he had.

We're producing better basketball players because we use the same system that football does. This is a wakeup call for the Americans to adapt a Euro attitude in youth sports so they can stop sucking at everything that isn't Basketball, Hockey, and eggball

HS basketball coach here. For this asking what else to do: spend time everyday working on your shooting form. (Go through your check points, work on footwork, in to out). Then start working on spot shooting (randomize your spots, have good form while shooting faster, apply pressure to your shots by giving yourself a number of makes in a number of time.) Then, if your have the ability, work with a partner to help with someone close sing out on your shots.

How do you keep your jumpshot consistent? I noticed that, when I'm doing stationary shots and am getting up simple reps, my form is fine, but in game/off the dribble, and basically whenever I'm off balance, my form changes. how do I fix this?
@Babydurant35allday7 күн бұрын
Stationary shooting provides no athletic challenge so it's easy to practice repeatability. In games, you're typically moving in different directions, at higher speeds, having to change speeds, etc. AND THEN SHOOT, so your body is not prepared for those shots by only doing stationary shooting. You get better at those things by practicing them. Toss the ball and backpedal into a shot at full speed, shoot quickly and hold your follow thru. Stand on the 3pt line and toss the ball across the arc and sprint full speed into an inside-outside plant 3. Face away from the basket and toss the ball out, chase it, turn & shoot with no dribble and no travel. You need to challenge yourself athletically when shooting in training and you will see more consistency in your release in game situations. Look up shooting drills on his page, he has tons that will help
@tjltraining7 күн бұрын
Practice in those exact situations and work on being able to adapt your shot to fit the situation as opposed to stationary stuff that provides no challenge

So what should we do if u bad at shooting and have bad range
@MyBurner-m8s6 күн бұрын
Make sure your form is good. I had a terrible form in 8th grade and couldn’t shoot threes so I completely reworked my shot and modeled it after kyrie. I was able to gain range because of this. You may also be too young to be shooting threes with proper form.
@Brandon-q9b9f7 күн бұрын
how many shots should I take
@Babydurant35allday7 күн бұрын
It's not about a number. It's about quality over quantity. More or less you can just set a timer for 10 minutes in a "drill" where you're challenging yourself at a certain shooting concept (shooting on the move, shooting off ball screens, midrange separation moves, simulating closeout situations and mixing up catch & shoots with pull-ups, etc.) and then move onto the next drill. Do that for all your shooting drills and put goals on it to add "pressure", but dont sacrifice the quality of your reps just because you "need to reach the goal". If you dont reach the goal you do a couple laps for losing and then run it back or move onto the next drill. If you do that for an hour or however long your workout sessions are, you'll still get a ton of makes in and can probably tally it up if you write down your makes in each drill/segment. You just shouldn't be hyper-focused on a pre-determined number. This way, you're tracking it for the sake of competing against yourself. The next day you see if you can reach the goals or beat yesterday's score in the drill.

How can I get better at learning to dribble and shoot against pressure when I’m by myself 80% of the time ?
@tjltraining8 күн бұрын
Train all the same qualities you would need in those situations and constantly challenge them, then the other 20% train under pressure with real defense and make sure the training you are doing on your own translates

Maybe one of these coaches can take advantage of all of these players who cannot actually play. At the same time, maybe they can use their amazing coaching ability to teach the players offensive play.
